• Tell your representative to give bees a chance!
Around the world, bees are dying at alarming rates and new science is pointing to the world’s most popular class of pesticides called neonicotinoids (also called neonics), made by giant chemical companies Bayer and Syngenta, as the key factor in the global bee die-off crisis. These key pollinators need our help. Without immediate action to save bees, which pollinate two-thirds of our food crops, everything from almonds to strawberries could disappear from supermarket shelves. Europe has banned bee-killing pesticides but the EPA has delayed action until 2018. Fortunately, Representatives John Conyers (D, Mich.) and Earl Blumenauer (D, Ore.) just introduced a bill to give our bees a fighting chance. The “Save America’s Pollinators Act” will suspend the use of toxic, bee-killing pesticides until a full review of scientific evidence indicates they are safe and a field study demonstrates they do no harm to bees and other pollinators. The bees can’t wait, and neither can we. Please tell your congressional representative to co-sponsor the “Save America’s Pollinators Act” right now!

  • Rep. Peterson: Why Delay the Individual Mandate?
The Affordable Care Act has already saved me money by forcing my Medicare Part D Plan to cover a portion of my prescription expense while I'm stuck in the donut hole. On July 17th Rep. Collin Peterson voted to delay the Individual Mandate of the Affordable Care Act, a/k/a Obamacare. Why?

  • Julia - what is your real position on Obamacare?
Our representative to Congress is siding with those who want to dismantle the Affordable Care Act. We deserve an explanation from her on why she voted this way.

  • End the"Stand Your Ground" law
This is a very confusing law, and it should not be carried out by the population, but by police officers only. What does "Stand Your Ground" mean anyway? The law should be abolished in every state in which it exists.

  • Join "The Wire" creator David Simon in telling the Tribune newspapers not to sell to the Koch bro...
A newspaper -- an honest one -- was a marvelous place to learn about the world and to convey what is learned to the community it serves. But this is only true, of course, if the newspaper is of and for the community and if it values its daily report more than any pre-determined point of view. So it is alarming to me that the Koch brothers, the billionaire duo so actively engaged in supporting a particular political ideology, are interested in buying the Baltimore Sun and a dozen other newspapers including the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune and the Hartford Courant. A sale to the Koch brothers would indeed be a journey from bad to worse. The only way to restore print journalism for the civic good is to have it practiced and owned by those who live in and are dedicated to the community itself. Join me in signing a petition asking the Tribune Company not to sell to the Koch brothers, and to instead support the local ownership of American news organizations.

  • Label Genetically Modified Foods in TN
Over 85% of foods in the grocery store contain genetically modified material, and yet there have been NO long term studies on their effects on public health. We should have the right to know and to choose for ourselves.

  • Granparents deserve rights in Kentucky!!!
This is important because there are some children whose grandparents are their sole caretakers. It makes it really hard when children are left with grandparents to raise, and take care of emotionally/physically and financially, but the biological parent can just come and rip them away at any time. This is traumatic to the children, and it's hard on the grandparents as well. If we have the right to take these kids to the doctor, and administer medications, buy clothing and food and diapers and take them to school, etc etc, then we should be able to have rights. It's really sad when you are the only "parent" a child knows, and then the biological parent comes and takes the child from you, and is completely unfit, and the child's life and health is endangered, and we are told "I'm sorry, grandparent's have no rights in Kentucky" and we can't do anything to help them! Grandparents need and deserve rights in Kentucky!!!

  • President Obama: Justice for the Late Pfc. LaVena Johnson
The Army’s account of what happened to LaVena was riddled with contradictions, from the alleged self-inflicted wound to where the body was found. Every piece of information uncovered was a painful and laborious act because of the Army’s refusal to cooperate.

  • Bill Enyart explain your vote against Obamacare!
I campaigned for Representative Enyart with the understanding that we had certain Democratic ideals in common, universal health care at the top of the list. I know several people who have already gotten refunds, yes refunds, from their health insurance providers thanks to the Affordable Care Act. I also have children in my own family born with what insurers call pre existing conditions who needed health care they are now getting. I want this progress to continue for the benefit all Americans.
