  • I support licensure of NC Dietitians/Nutritionists
NC licensed dietitians/nutritionists need your support! Two bills, S10 and H676, were filed in the NC general assembly this year that called for eliminating licensure of dietitians/nutritionists in North Carolina. Grassroots efforts by NC licensed dietitians/nutritionists and other members of the NC community were successful in getting this language removed from S10. H676 has not been voted on and the primary sponsors of H676 have communicated that it is their intention to form a study committee to review licensure. NC legislators need to hear that you value the services licensed dietitians/nutritionists provide the patients you treat and that without licensure it would be difficult to determine who is qualified to provide these services. (Please include your credentials with your signature). Thank you!

  • Don't let them take my disabled son's benefits back
My son Warren, now 22, was born with multiple language and learning disorders. After an hard-won, two-year eligibility battle with the Social Security Administration, they now want to take back the money they paid him. He was 11 cents over one month and 14 cents over another month, yet they want the entire monthly stipend back. Disabled people are only allowed to have $2,000 in assets to qualify for Supplemental Security Insurance (SSI). This number was established back in 1989. The National Council on Disability has urged President Obama to raise the limit to $10,000 and create ways to help support work and independence. This petition asks President Obama to issue a directive that follows the recommendations of NCD Chairman Jeff Rosen.

  • University of Utah: support the Loan Fairness Act by Elizabeth Warren
The big banks get cheaper interest rates than students do on applying for student loans. The only way for this to make sense is if we care about banks more than we care about students. And if that's the America we live in, then I don't want to be here.

  • California State Assembly: Pass the DISCLOSE Act Now!
The California State Senate has passed the DISCLOSE Act. Now it is time for the State Assembly to act. The Assembly Elections Committee will take this up as early as June 18. DISCLOSE stands for "Democracy is Strengthened by Casting Light on Spending in Elections". The California DISCLOSE Act would bring transparency to California elections by requiring clear identification of the top three funders of tv, radio, print and online political ads, as well as billboards and websites. Monsanto, DuPont, Dow and other corporations spent $47 million to defeat GMO labeling in California last year. Chevron, Occidental Oil and Aera Energy spent $94 million to defeat a tax to pay for alternative energy under the name of "Californians Against Higher Taxes". Voters need to know who is really behind campaigns ads.
