• Local Political Cronyism hurting communities
Funding for my county's library system has been repeatedly cut over the last several years, thanks in great part to a county commission that is self serving, corrupt, and beholden to corporate interests, while leaving those most at risk in this community twisting in the wind. There are county commissioners who would have the library privatized, thereby making even more difficult access to programs for the poorest of our citizens.

  • Jeff Duncan: Turn Off Your AM Radio & Listen To Your Constituents
Over the past few weeks, Jeff Duncan has been chasing right-wing conspiracy theories rather than pushing for legislation that his constituents care about. He's attacking U.S. officials over Benghazi. He's trying to prevent the census department from being able to collect the information they need to let us know how our economy is doing. He's criticizing the Pentagon for meeting with someone who has a hostile opinion of Christianity.

  • Tell AFLAC to cover same-sex MARRIED couples
AFLAC came to my work place to try to sell their product. The same-sex couples who are married were denied the ability to purchase an AFLAC product that would cover themselves and their family (Spouse and children). They could purchase a product that would cover themselves and the children however because AFLAC had not yet changed its policy the non-covered spouse would have to buy an individual product to receive the benefits. The state where I live passed the Marriage Equity Act in the summer of 2011.

  • TEACHERS COLLEGE: TAKE A STAND FOR REAL TEACHING AND LEARNING! NO AWARD FOR MERRYL TISCH
On May 21, 2013 Teachers College plans to give an award to the Chancellor of the New York State Board of Regents, Merryl Tisch. Given Tisch's role in promoting the use of high stakes standardized testing in our schools, this award would be an endorsement of Tisch's record. TEACHERS COLLEGE NEEDS TO TAKE A STAND FOR AUTHENTIC TEACHING, LEARNING AND ASSESSMENT! NO AWARD FOR MERRYL TISCH!

  • Fair Elections for New York
New York is in the grip of a political crime wave. In the last 7 years, 32 New York State elected officials have been arrested, indicted, convicted, jailed, censured or resigned in disgrace. New York's legislators are more likely to lose their seat through arrest than at the polls. Regardless of party or ideology, these wrongdoers share one thing: they abused their positions of public trust and perverted our democracy to pursue personal gain. We must change this culture of corruption by changing the system. This requires public financed Fair Elections to attract candidates who will not be beholden to special interests, but will work for the public good. And we have only six weeks left in the session to do it! Maine, Connecticut, Arizona, and New York City have public financing systems. The cost for New York State would be just $2 per voter PER YEAR, less than a cup of coffee per year! In Connecticut, 75% of candidates have chosen to run with public financing alone. This has made an amazing difference in the integrity of politics and policy in that state. We the undersigned demand that New York's legislature and Governor enact meaningful, transparent, enforceable public financing of elections now, including limits on and disclosure of campaign contributions. We must ensure that the pay-to-play culture in Albany is eliminated.

  • Star Ledger: Retract False Statements on WISOMMM Inc. & Sister Fredrica Bey
Sister Fredrica Bey and Women In Support Of the Million Man March (WISOMMM, Inc.), along with their Adelaide L. Sanford Charter School (ALSCS) have been unfairly and unjustly targeted and maligned in the Newark, New Jersey Star Ledger Newspaper for the past few years, culminating in a rash of scathing articles spanning the week of Sunday, May 5, 2013 through Saturday, May 11, 2013. The allegations against Sister Fredrica Bey, WISOMMM and ALSCS of fraud, misappropriations of funds, conflict of interest, abuse of power, criminal activity and betrayal of trust are absolutely false! Sister Fredrica Bey, WISOMMM and ALSCS have addressed, corrected and answered all inquiries, findings and questions regarding any and all issues of concern brought about by the New Jersey Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Justice. Seven years of investigation of Sister Bey, the organization and the school found no charges being brought against Sister Bey of fraud or any criminal act whatsoever. The State of New Jersey Attorney's Office has vetted the lease between ALSCS and WISOMMM and has deemed that it is valid. WISOMMM has never charged the school for space it has never used, nor has WISOMMM ever charged ALSCS inflated rent. Sister Fredrica Bey, WISOMMM and ALSCS are only guilty of purchasing and maintaining several pieces of prime real estate with their own personal money downtown Newark, and providing programs and services within those properties that serve to empower and build the community, while creating schools that teach African Centered Education for Liberation. The attack on Sister Fredrica Bey, WISOMMM and ALSCS MUST STOP NOW!

  • Rising Corporate Profits due to Technology Revolution; Permanently Displaces the Human Workforce
Why should corporations want to create jobs and hire people when they can get one machine to replace 7 to 10 people? I know because I had sold many of these machines. Read THE END OF WORK, By Jeremy Rifkin. His eye-opening conclusions based on economic facts, proves we are headed for a global economic collision resulting from multi-corporate greed, self-interest, and its devaluation of the human worker, and, too, its non-dependency upon American consumerism. Let's create a Balance: Hire four workers, to one machine?

  • Wal Not
the largest number of guns and ammo sold in this country are sold by Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart refuses to listen when we tell them how very personal this is with us because OUR children are being killed. Let us show them with the loss of our dollars that we will not shop there for ANYTHING until they stop providing the means for murder. No lines of protesters in the hot sun or in the cold.. Drop off a note saying why you are not shopping there any more.
