• Home Loan Refianace for Non-Fannie Mae
My home is underwater, I would like to refinance my home but can't because I do not qualify because I do not have a Fannie Mae or Fredie Mac Loan. I lost my job 3 job after 20 years of employment, was unemployed for almost a year. My husband had neck surgery last year and was on unemployment. I attempted to get a loan modification and my lender said that loss of job and disability were not hardships. I would like to refinance my home to get my interest rate a little lower so that I can recover from the financial hardship that loosing my job and my husband's injury caused us. I would like Congress to pass some kind of loan Refianance like the Making Home Affordable program for people wiht private loans.

  • Cut Social Security & Veterans' Benefits? Cut the Pentagon Instead!
President Obama has endorsed cutting Social Security and veterans' benefits by using the "chained CPI" to lower the cost-of-living adjustment. But the Congressional Budget Office says cutting Social Security and veterans' benefits in this way would only save the government $163 billion over ten years. There are much better ways for the government to save $163 billion, like cutting the bloated Pentagon budget. Urge President Obama and your representatives in Congress to cut the Pentagon budget instead of cutting Social Security and veterans' benefits. Here are three easy ways to save $163 billion by cutting the bloated Pentagon budget: 1. End the war in Afghanistan. A rough estimate of the cost of deploying U.S. troops to Afghanistan is a billion dollars per thousand troops per year. If we withdraw 16,300 troops from Afghanistan and keep them out, that would save $163 billion over ten years. 2. Cut the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program. A recent estimate of the long-term cost of purchasing, operating and maintaining 2,457 F-35s is $1.5 trillion. [1] That's $610 million per plane. If we cut 267 planes - a little over 10% - that would save $163 billion. 3. Cut Pentagon contracting. Every year the Pentagon spends more than $360 billion purchasing goods and services from contractors. Service contractors can cost, on average, 2.94 times more than an average Pentagon civilian employee performing the same job. A crude estimate suggests that just by cutting Pentagon contracting by 7% and bringing the work in house, the Pentagon could save $163 billion over ten years. [2] Cutting the Pentagon budget instead of Social Security and veterans' benefits isn't a wild idea - it's exactly what will happen if there there is no "grand bargain" budget deal. All we have to do to make sure the Pentagon budget is cut is prevent a deal that cuts Social Security and veterans' benefits. Urge your representatives in Congress and President Obama to cut the Pentagon budget instead of cutting Social Security and veterans' benefits. Here's three other actions you can take: 1. Write to Congress and the President, urging them to cut the Pentagon budget instead of Social Security and veterans' benefits: http://www.justforeignpolicy.org/act/chained-cpi 2. Tell your Representative and Senators you'll support a primary challenge if they vote to cut Social Security and veterans' benefits: http://pac.signon.org/sign/chained-cpi-for-every?source=c.url&r_by=1135580 3. Help fellow MoveOn members deliver these petitions against cutting Social Security and veterans' benefits on Thursday, April 25 to a local Congressional office: http://civic.moveon.org/event/events/create.html?id=&action_id=317 References: 1. “Cut Social Security & Veterans' Benefits? • Do not confirm the ASWSU Director of Multicultural Affairs
ASWSU President Elect Taylor Hennessey and Vice President Elect Kevin Massimino disregarded the voice of the Multicultural Community when chosing the Director of Multicultural Affairs position for 2013-2014. Although we were included in the interview process, and many wrote letters of recommendations our voice was silenced with the executive position being offered to a person that we, the Multicultural Community, feel is least fit for a representation of who we are, and our purpose at large.

  • Oppose the Social Security cuts
Opposing the Social Security cuts! I don't think that I have been affected yet by the cuts, but I know that I probaby will be when I become older! I'm in my early 30's right now but I know that when I hit my retired age I wont be able to retire because there will be no SS for us born in and around the 80's!! This is really sad that we wont get to have this opportunity to have what others (meaning people before us) had or have. And for those who already have it, they're not getting much. I don't want to have to work in a low down pet store TRYING to make ends meet. My parents wont be around forever! I want to have somewhere to live on my own and to not ever be on foodstamp or any kind of government assistance again, because I've never had to go this route before. Bush has really messed up the younger generation to come! Please don't do this and STOP BEING SO FREAKIN GREEDY!! If you guys would just work the heck together and also raise the minimum wage because no one can live off just 7.25 an hr!!! I mean if you were in our shoes how would YOU feel? Think about that. I mean you can't live in this world alone... I mean what if we were all on that, you wouldn't have taxes to help pay for your sal or anyone to really rule over (Republicans! I'm talking to you now) So thank about that. I mean you only can do soo much w/ money and it only can take you so far. You will fail! Thank you!

  • Support a Path to Citizenship
We have interviewed both documented and undocumented immigrants who have cited the difficulties they have faced in gaining citizenship. Often times, students obtain degrees but are unable to work because of their legal status. Families are separated because of deportation, and immigrants cannot escape poverty due to limited employment opportunities. A path to citizenship would be beneficial for all Americans.

  • Keep the Tennis Courts at Sarasota High School
We believe that the demolition of the eight tennis courts at Sarasota High School, proposed for the summer of 2013, should not happen. These courts have been a valuable community resource for many years, providing exercise and recreation for thousands of people, from the surrounding neighborhoods and throughout the area. Many Sarasota High School tennis teams have trained and played on them. Many other school teams have played there. This is the only set of eight public courts in the County. The demolition of these courts, which cost a lot to build and have only recently been resurfaced, is a waste of taxpayer money. The demolition of these courts, in order to provide a new bus loop, so that Sarasota High School’s existing combined bus loop/Parent dropoff can become an exclusive parent dropoff, is a misguided use of public resources. Some may feel that schools shouldn’t have to care about the community’s recreation but the school system is funded by taxpayer dollars paid by the public, its facilities are owned by the public., and the school system should consider the impact of its actions upon the public. In this case, the demolition of the courts will deprive many people of exercise and recreation.

  • Congress is killing the Post Office
The Congress wants the Postal Service to close 3,500 post offices and lay off 120,000 workers. Those members of Congress, who argue that the nation cannot persevere without the accustomed mail service, seem to be trying to kill it. They say they are intent on creating jobs but seem to be intent on reducing jobs instead. The essential issue is clear. Congress should get out of the way and let management do what it can to put the Post Office on a substantial footing.
