• Whistle-Blower Protection SB 121/HB 207
How many times a government employee is terminated or retaliated against for reporting fraud, waste and abuse of taxpayers dollars or violations of public policies and unlawful activities by our public officials. We might find it necessary to report wrongdoing, but we should proceed with caution before blowing the whistle. My review of state-level lawsuits suggests that being entitled to protection under a state whistle-blower statute and receiving that protection can be two different matters. Lawsuits filed by whistle-blowers shows that it’s difficult to receive protection under many of the state laws. The current Whistleblower statutes (State and Federal) need to be strengthened; it is not sufficient and fails to provide enough of a deterrent to those who would use government for their own personal gain or to satisfy their own personal desires. In an article I read the statistic showed that seventy-four percent of the whistle-blowers were terminated. Another 6 percent were suspended and 5 percent were transferred against their wishes. The remaining 15 percent were given poor evaluations, demoted or harassed. http://www.fraud-magazine.com/article.aspx?id=4294968656 Only when we, the taxpayers, are finally fed up with our government being the playground for the vices and whims of individual managers and supervisors will things really start to change. Contact your U.S. Representative and your Senator to ask for real Whistleblower Protection today by supporting SB 121/HB 207. Contracts irregularities and mismanagement of our taxpayer’s dollars are costing Texas millions of dollars that could be used to support our school system, highways/road projects and health benefits for women and the mentally ill.

  • Shame on CNN: Apologize for Steubenville coverage.
Yesterday a guilty verdict was handed down in the Steubenville rape case, where a 16-year-old girl was raped repeatedly by boys on a high school football team. The verdict was the beginning of justice for this brave young girl, but CNN's coverage was awful. The entire CNN panel, including Candy Crowley, reporter Poppy Harlow and legal analyst Paul Callan focused on what a tragedy this was for the boys and what a shame it was that their lives had been ruined. It was as if the rape was some sort of unfortunate accident and they hadn't committed a very serious, invasive, and, for the survivor, life-altering crime. CNN didn't focus on what this verdict meant for Jane Doe. It only focused on sad reflections of the "destroyed" lives of these boys that were caught raping a girl. This is wrong and CNN owes us all an apology. Can you add your name to the petition?

  • Music Videos need a reality check
Music videos are highly influential, to young people; much like commercials (but longer) they tell young people what to drink, what to wear, how to wear it, and how to live. The problem is that the images portrayed are many times degrading to women and the disadvantaged. I believe that music videos should provide a disclaimer to inform young people that the lifestyles portrayed are not realistic

  • credit checks for employment and insurance need to be outlawed
If you are out of work, injured, sick, or just plain do not make enough money to sustain yourself your credit WILL become bad. Why are we being checked for credit to work or get auto insurance rates? Credit checks have NOTHING to do with work ethic, education, special talents or driving records. Stop this...the jobless rate would go down if ALL applicants are looked at, not just the ones with good credit.

Are you reading and watching? We are. And the States are out of control. They are passing outrageous women's health care laws regarding, not just access to abortion, but access to health care in general. Women are dying and the numbers WILL increase. VAWA does NOT cover this.

  • Require a 100% background check to purchase a gun.
In view of recent mass shootings it is important that only responsible law abiding citizens be allowed to purchase guns in the State of Florida. To help achieve this goal, no gun sale will take place without a background check of the prospective purchaser. The background check will include criminal activity and mental stability checks. Failure to satisfy these checks will result in no gun sale.
