• Ban Hydraulic Fracking in California.
As oil companies gear up for a hydraulic fracturing boom in California, state regulators have proposed industry-friendly fracking regulations that would do little to protect the state'’s air, water and wildlife from pollution. Since the draft fracking rules clearly fail to protect the public's access to clean drinking water, hydraulic fracturing should be banned in California.

  • Protect the Stundents & Workers of San Francisco Community College
My son Diego is a student at SF Community College. He is enrolled in a Library Science certificate program and only has a few units left to get is AA degree and transfer to a four year institution. My friend Allen is a union member who works at SF City College. he has been a valuable City employee for many years. The management has put the student and workers of San Francisco's Community College in harms way because of their incompetence at managing the funds for the College. It is possible that SF Community College could lose its accreditation and the school could close or if it stays open it is possible that students who are looking to transfer to four year institution will find that they cannot transfer their credits. San Francisco's City College is one of the institutions that is still affordable for workers like myself to send their children to. If it closes down, where will our children go? I ask for you support for the students and the workers of this important institution to continue their education and for the workers to continue to provide the important services for the students. Thank you Governor Brown & Speaker of the Assembly John A. Perez Gloria Sanchez San Bruno, CA

  • MD Anderson Reimburse Recchi's
Time Magazine recently ran an article 'why medical bills are killing us' and included the story of the Recchi's who MD Anderson charged over 83,000 for cancer treatment MD Anderson is supposed to be a non profit but made a 26 percent profit last year and the head of MD Anderson made more than 2 million dollars last year. I think they should reimburse the Recchi's 26% of the 83,000 and apologize to them for not giving them assistance or treating them with compassion at the time they most needed it. I do not know the Recchi's but I was absolutely furious when I read this. this type of rip off by the medical community has got to stop.

  • Connectivity for rural citizens
Deregulation permitted the communications industry to provide Internet service only to profitable markets, leaving rural areas with no connections. Our children in rural areas such as Glacier Washington cannot complete internet-based homework assignments. Fiber optic cable is very expensive and only Broadband type Internet connections are feasible in areas that are hilly, off the main roads, or in valleys.

  • Encourage the Rail Trail's Legislative Champions
The Senate conference has REMOVED the $2 million in funding for the Catskill Mountain Rail Trail, originally allocated in Governor Cuomo's Executive Budget from the Senate version of the budget. Although the $2 million item is still included in the Assembly version of the budget, this significant funding is now in extreme jeopardy. Let the Rail Trail's champions know how much you value their support and urge them to renew it to ensure the future of this project.

  • Liability insurance for concealed gun permits .
As a responsible citizen of Wisconsin, I am required to carry liability insurance to cover adverse consequences of using my automobile on public roads. I feel persons who feel a need to carry a loaded weapon in public should at the very least shoulder financial responsibility for any adverse action they commit with that weapon.

  • Sen. Baucus and Sen. Tester: Support immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship
Montana Democratic Senators Max Baucus and Jon Tester will be key votes on legislation to fix our broken immigration system this year. We need these Senators to support a pathway to citizenship for the 11 million immigrants currently living in the United State without papers. Most of these immigrants have lived in this country for more than a decade and have come to America to seek a better life for their families. They are Americans-in-waiting who are ready to fulfill the requirements of our citizenship process - to study English, pay taxes, maintain a good record and be of good moral character. Instead of focusing only on the border, we need a new approach that is better for families and makes more economic sense.

  • Stop the Coal Trains
The fossil fuel industry is determined to move coal from North America to Asia through ports on the west coast. Burning this coal locks in disastrous amounts of global warming and weather disruption around the world. Moving coal through our communities will leave coal dust in the air and on the ground increasing incidence and severity of asthma and other respiratory diseases. Coal is a jobs program for the health care industry and is a disaster for schools and school children near the rail lines. Why does anyone think this is a good idea? The fossil fuel industry will tout jobs and economics and argues that if we don't allow the coal to be moved through our communities, it will go elsewhere and still be burned. The long term environmental stability of the planet hangs in the balance and industry wants to tout jobs that will push the planet over the climate cliff. Communities and states must rise and stop this foolish enterprise. It's time for the Evergreen State to act Green. Governor Inslee in Washington State says the coal trains will not go forward without complete studies and environmental impact statements. Ok, fine, study the issue, but at the end of the studies, these coal trains cannot be allowed to move through the West Coast Ports. The global change to a sustainable energy grid depends on human beings weaning ourselves from fossil fuels. This is how we do it. We say no to fossil fuels. The pressure for energy that builds with an embargo on fossil fuel will power the green energy industry. Global warming is a jobs program. It's time to get to work to stop global warming and build the green energy grid. Let's stop the coal trains and get to work on the green energy grid that will keep our planet stable.
