• Support Sen. Constance Johnson’s Marijuana law reform in Oklahoma
Sen. Constance Johnson, who made headlines recently when she fought to get a hearing for medical marijuana in the Oklahoma Legislature, has filed legislation that calls upon the State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision to establish a medical marijuana program in the Sooner State. Separately, she is also sponsoring legislation that would reduce the penalty for possession of small amounts of marijuana. Sen. Johnson’s medical marijuana bill, SB 902, is short and to the point. Rather than spelling out all the details in the legislation, the bill simply directs the medical board to develop and adopt rules allowing patients to obtain permission from their doctors to use marijuana and to establish fees for the “licensing, production, distribution, and consumption” of medical marijuana. Johnson’s other bill, SB 914, would lessen the penalty for possession of 1.5 ounces or less from a maximum of one year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000 to a maximum of 10 days in jail and a fine of up to $200.

  • gun controls everywhere
Stop the foot dragging with creating serious gun controls. I do not want to be a victim of the next rampage nor anyone else to be likewise effected. Time we grew up in this country and stop trying to be the "wild west" again.

  • Maisto: Withdraw Predator Drone Strike "Toy"
Children's toys shouldn't be glorifying a controversial CIA assassination program that kills innocent children and violates international law. According to the Bureau of Investigative Journalism in London, 176 children have been killed by CIA drone strikes in Pakistan since 2004. Human rights groups like Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have sharply criticized the CIA drone strike program and called for it to stop. Don't let Maisto desensitize our children to the killing of other children!

I moved to Florida seven years ago. To date every election that has taken place, i.e. Presidential, state, and local, has resulted in numerious recounts, with the hopes of changing the actual results. The state and local government should give the citizens of Florida some credit for seeing this for what it really is...Another way to control the outcome of elections for the benefit of a few...Lets put a stop to this kind of government...

  • Assistant Living in Va.
Since I moved to Va. from Maine 4 years ago, I have discovered assistant living in the Shanandoah area is way off middle class income for the rates they are charging. For example within 50 miles radius from Harrisonburg, Va. the average cost is $2,200.00 or above per month. The average income for middle class retiree is $15,000.00 yearly. How can someone afford to live in a assistant living home at that rate? I also took a survey in Maine before I left and visited some of the homes where the price rage from $1,200.00 to $1,500.00/month and they look like a palace as compared to the ones I saw locally at the same rate. I am an independent voter but wonder how this can be happening in Va? It is such a beautiful state to retire in and the weather is so much better than Maine especially when you are older and retired. We hear all the time that Republicans are for the rich and the Democrats are for the poor and middle class. Maine has been a Democratic state for years and in Va. I really don't know for sure what party has dominated the state. Is that the reason for this shameful situation existing? Would appreciate your input in this matter at your convenience. Thank you.

  • Repeal Right to Work
The new Right to Work Law, pushed through without public hearings in a lame duck session of the state legislature, ensures that all in Michigan will have the right to work FOR LESS. It will weaken unions, until now the only force that helped level the playing field for workers negotiating with ever more powerful corporations. It isn't the right to choose. That would be the same as being able to choose to withhold your federal taxes when a president is elected that you don't like. Unions are democracy. Right to Work is only to destroy them and impoverish families.

  • Save Our SEATS
Johnson County Seats has been providing paratransit services for the elderly and people with disabilities since the mid-1970's. SEATS has been my main means of transportation for 17 years. Currently they are providing close to 500 rides a day and the demand is growing. Iowa City and the Johnson County Board of Supervisors are threatening to dismantle SEATS. Hundreds of people with disabilities, as well as their families, friends, and support systems, would be negatively impacted by this financially and politically driven decision.

  • Take steps to curb excess violence in entertainment and media
Violent content in our entertainment industry has escalated over the years and by anyone's standards, is a contributing factor in the desensitization of society to brutality, bloodshed, and horror. Through video games, TV, films, and more, people have become immune to the devastating effects of real-life violence toward others. Isn't this how some cultures have dehumanized their enemies in the past? The effects are real and should be examined.

  • Save our Children, Not our Assault Rifles
Reducing the number of assault rifles/guns in Colorado. And making it extremely difficult to purchase such weapons of mass destruction of human life, most often young human life. We must greatly stiffen the the punishment for such horrendous crimes when they do occur and not continue to allow simple pleas of "not guilty by reason of insanity" such that the person is back out on the street as soon as they can convince a psychiatrist they have "recovered". Yes we need much better mental health screening AND treatment, but in the meantime, it is time for this country to get tough on ASSAULT GUNS, which you don't need to be a good hunter!
