• Distractive Driving Legislation
It's time for the Florida Legislature to enact state laws banning texting while driving, and the use of a hand-held cell phone while driving a motor vehicle. Florida is only one of eleven states that does not have a ban on texting. Not only is this a serious safety issue, but because Florida has not passed a ban on texting while driving, it is not entitled to any of the federal highway funds amounting to over 22.5 million dollars enacted into law by Congress last year, signed by the President, and which will be distributed this year.

  • The Right To Vote
Unfortunately, too many states deny individuals who have served their required time in prison upon their release, restored rights as citizens. After being released from incarceration, by denying the "Right to Vote", their punishment continues, thus preventing them from participating again as restored citizens within the community. Denying the Right to Vote, upon completing the required punishment determined for a crime against the community, is "cruel and unusual punishment". The Eighth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution forbids “cruel and unusual punishments”. If after, someone has “paid their debt” to society and they are released, but still being punished in some states, but not others, is their right of citizenship protected under federal law ? If they are continually “punished” for their previous crime how will they be accepted back into the community of man to participate fully as a citizen of their community and nation ? The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that the Eighth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution’s Cruel and Unusual Punishment Clause applies to the states. Since states view the “Right to Vote”, after incarceration, so differently for committing the same crime doesn’t this violate the U. S. Constitution ? • Support national climate conversation with President Obama, on a 10-point plan.
There needs to be more input from the public on developing a comprehensive plan. This 10-point plan is a work-in-progress, with input coming in from the public through the Transition Express Campaign, initially designed from research done on educated minds focused on climate solutions.

  • Mental Health in schools
Mental Health is a hot topic right now due to the recent news. I have personally experienced the lack of support in our local school system for this topic. They offer the help, plan the IEP's, but do not follow thru. AT ALL. I understand they don't have the financial backing to support this problem...Let's get financial backing! Public funding and private funding for all grade levels.

  • Gun Violence, and Innocent Victims charged for first degree murders, Discrimination against Afric...
My petition is about three prominent issues: Gun Control for each citizen who has possession of any armed weapons (guns or otherwise) in this community (Especially citizens who are violent prone). Secondly an individual charged with cases (They are/have served a sentence) but they did not commit should in some way be compensated and their name publicly and physically (on paper) cleared. The third issue is "The Fair Sentencing Act", in which people of color should have equal consideration as other White counterparts have in these cases. The forth issue is that marijuana should never be legalized in the state of Maryland even for cancer patients because that are less threatening things to use to treat cancer. Finally, those persons involved in re-entering into the community should have the proper mandated training and skills to re enter into the community for lower recidivism rates.

  • Self-Defense
This petition is to have what is and is not considered self defense re-evaluated. My daughter ended up in a fight trying to stop four kids from bullying her. She was assaulted to the point of having several marks left on her face, neck, ears, as well as some of her hair ripped out. But I was told by officers that because she turned around and began yelling at the kids, who were yelling profanity at her and calling her dirty names, that she was considered part of the fight, and if I pressed charges, that charges would be pressed against her as well. One of the kids also video taped some of the fight on their cell phone, but the only thing it showed was my daughter holding the girl down (which she admitted to) trying to keep the girl from hitting her anymore. The child who video taped this was only made to delete the video, throwing it out as what I feel could have been used as evidence.
