Dear Governor: Please support HB 2559 which will create much-needed alimony (spousal support) reform in Oregon. My husband, and thousands of other payers like him, has been strangled by excessive alimony payments to a wealthy college-educated woman for ten years (despite a reduction in his income) with no end in sight. Modifications are terribly expensive to seek and difficult to obtain, even when a payer has lost his or her job. The economic downturn has created a system in which payers go bankrupt trying to support a former spouse, while that former spouse has no obligation to seek employment and suffers no income decline. Our bill would set guidelines for alimony awards, thus reducing expensive and heart-wrenching litigation, and would equalize the system to lessen the punishment suffered by income earners when a marriage fails.

The reefs of Hawaii are becoming ghost reefs. They are taking every fish off the reefs to sell in the shameful aquarium trade. Our fish are not for sale. The Hawaiian reef fish are ALL TAKEN LIVE FROM OUR ISLANDS. Please boycott PETCO as they refuse to stop selling our fish online. The reefs need the fish. They are taking all the yellow tangs. All the Humuhumunukunukuapuaa and a variety of other fish deemed "pretty".

I personally cannot believe in this country any longer considering the lack of enthusiasm congress has displayed.

Act 10 and hi-speed rail

The elderly and disabled should only reapply for food stamps once a year. Look at the waste of time and paper work in a years time that would be saved by the state. Due to hospital appoinments I have to start applying all over again, because I do not have transportation and live about 15 miles from town. (I am going on 64 years old.)

TOBACCO should pay for the health problems, including, deaths that it causes in the State of California every year.

gun control regulations must be revised to be as strict as possible. I am very much against individual gun ownership and would honestlly prefer no guns in our society. Although I realize that is unrealistic, I am totally in support of the tightest measures possible

There should not be one person in the United States that has their privacy invaded, their property rights ignored, or that is taken forcibly with no due process, by those who should protect the civil liberties that we are guaranteed under the US constitution. Yet many have, under the strength of the Patriot Act. The federal government will not acknowledge this destruction of civil rights, and so we petition state legislators to denounce the Patriot Act. Oregon has had a proud history of disagreeing with federal mandates, and takes invasion of privacy and property rights especially seriously. By acting locally instead of appealing to the federal government, we can at least keep our state free from this unconstitutional act.

With the recent violence in Connecticut and across the country, we need to make sure all our citizens especially our children are safe and free from harm. Please make this a top priority of yours and support the ban on assault weapons.
