Condemn the Execution of Rizana Nafeek in Saudi Arabia - Cancel the U.S.- Saudi Weapons DealWe condemn the execution of Rizana Nafeek in Saudi Arabia (1/9/13) and call for the U.S. to cancel its weapons sales to that kingdom. The gruesome beheading of Rizana Nafeek, carried out by Saudi Arabian authorities, must mark the end of tolerance for the Saudi regime. This kingdom executes people for witchcraft and blasphemy, and lashes women who dare to drive cars. It does not allow the existence of labor unions, but does permit old men to marry children. Political rights are non-existent and demonstrations are put down violently. The regime is a notorious sanctuary for tyrants from Idi Amin of Urganda to Zine Ben Ali of Tunisia. Rizana Nafeek, a young woman from Sri Lanka, worked as a domestic. She was found guilty of murdering a baby in her care when she was 17 years old.. Nafeek confessed to the killing, but Human Rights Watch says she made her confession under duress. In a 1/8/2013 statement the group said "Nafeek had no access to legal counsel until after a court in Dawadmi sentenced her to death by beheading in 2007." International law forbids execution of people for crimes committed when they were under 18, but Saudi Arabia ignored the provision. As of January 2013, the Guardian(UK) reports 45 foreign maids are on death row in Saudi Arabia. Besides its terrible human rights record, the kingdom gave millions to the Taliban. It took part last year in the suppression of the democratic movement in Bahrain. It is sending weapons into Syria to arm sectarian forces that attack all who do not agree with their extreme version of religion. The Saudi government has offered to collaborate with Israel and allow it to use Saudi airspace on its way to attack Iran. Enough is enough. The government of Saudi Arabia should be regarded as an international pariah. The $60 billion dollar U.S.-Saudi arms deal must be cancelled.282 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Stanley Heller

I support the campaign to STOP the privatization of our public schools in the Penns Manors School...The Penns Manor Area School Board wants to fire district's cafeteria employees and hire a private pro-profit corporation. We need to send a message to the school board that our jobs and our taxes should stay in the Penns Manor community! Our community is not for sale! Stop the campaign to privatize our public schools!158 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Lucy Harlow

Create Jobs and Reduce Fraud , Waste and AbuseThere is Fraud, Waste and Abuse in all areas of the Federal and State Governments. Millions could be saved if there was a more strict program that required auditing of all government programs. This should be more in-depth audits for programs such as Government Procurement, Medicare, Medicare and all entitlement programs. There should be requirements for states to be required to audit and control all funds received from the federal government. The savings would pay for the employment required for Auditors and would create skilled jobs.6 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Alice Jacobi

Sen. Richard Saslaw: Withdraw Your Support for Uranium Mining in VAUranium mining presents a radioactive contamination threat to Lake Gaston, a water supply to my home in Norfolk, as well as to residents of Virginia Beach and Chesapeake. Government officials, like Sen. Saslaw and other members of the General Assembly, have a sworn duty to protect the health and welfare of the general public and the environment as opposed to corporate profits.384 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Joe Cook

Congressional reform act of 2013This has to be done or our country will never be the same again. Congress has done nothing in the last 12 years but drag down this country instead of doing the job that we the people have voted them to do. As citizens of this country we should feel proud of our country, but from what i see that has changed so we need to change the individuals that are causing all the havoc.757 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Wayne Starz

We need a plan to address climate change“Last year was the hottest on record for the contiguous United States, shattering the previous mark set in 1998 by a wide margin, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced Tuesday. The average temperature was 55.3 degrees, 1 degree above the previous record and 3.2 degrees more than the 20th-century average. Temperatures were above normal in every month between June 2011 and September 2012, a 16-month stretch that hasn’t occurred since the government began keeping such records in 1895.” (Washington Post, January 8, 2013) That staggering news is being ignored by the media and our elected leaders. Climate Change wasn’t addressed in last year’s elections, and there is no serious legislation moving through Congress to address it. Climate Change is probably the most important issue we face right now, even more important than the federal budget, gun violence and other serious issues. If we don’t address climate change, then none of these other issues will matter. Our elected officials—Democrats and Republicans—are ignoring the reality of Climate Change. The media don’t report on it. So it’s up to us to demand a serious plan to address Climate Change. Send President Obama and Congress this simple message.13,005 of 15,000 SignaturesCreated by Michael Morrill
