• Fair Payment for Representation
Make the citizens of each state responsible for the salaries and benefits of their representatives to Congress. It is grossly unfair for citizens in the more populous and relatively wealthier states to be paying for the salaries of representatives of states with relatively low populations and wealth, especially when these representatives vote against the interests of those in the more populous/wealthier states, e.g., Hurricane Sandy relief.

  • End Proverty in the United States
This is long over-due, "The curse of proverty has no justification in our age. It is socially as cruel and blind as the practice of cannibalism at the dawn of civilization.... The time has come for us to civilize ourselves by the immediate abolition of poverty" Martin Luther King

  • Take a Stance Against Congressional Dysfunction: End the Hastert Rule
The Hastert Rule, which has only been applied by Republican Speakers, is anti-democratic and holds the whole country hostage to the right wing of the Republican Party.

  • Don't raise tuition on Connecticut students
I was alarmed when I heard that the state's budget gap might result in large tuition increases (3 to 14 percent) for students at Connecticut's Colleges and Universities like me. It could mean a hike of more than a thousand dollars in tuition. This would make going to school next semester significantly harder for me, and, and impossible for many. What makes the matter even more upsetting is that students, who are most impacted by these decisions, have a diminishing voice on the Board of Regents (only 2 of the 19 members). This is unacceptable.

  • Protect the Delaware River from dangerous gas drilling
We have heard that the agency that is charged with protecting the Delaware River (the Delaware River Basin Commission, or “DRBC”) will meet again soon to consider allowing harmful gas drilling near the river—drilling that has left a trail of air and water pollution, toxic waste and a legacy of environmental destruction in its wake all across nearby Pennsylvania. We can’t allow this track record of pollution anywhere near our great Delaware River. We need to make sure that the DRBC hasn’t forgotten about the overwhelming opposition to such a risky and shortsighted proposal—and that they must protect the Delaware River.

  • The Defense of Austin Sarna: Free Good Samaritan
Sarna had witnessed a male in a group of at least 5 men randomly attack a vehicle that had stopped at a stop sign at the corner of Broad and Monterey. When the owner of the vehicle got out of his car to confront the male, he was tackled to the ground and the group of men began physically assaulting him. Sarna rushed over to attempt to stop the assailants and help the owner of the vehicle. That's when the men turned on him. He was immediately tackled to the ground and assaulted, being repeatedly kicked and punched by 2-3 of the men while the others in the group continued to assault the owner of the vehicle. Sarna feared for his life. Now he stands charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon after defending a stranger and then being forced to defend himself.

  • Injustice in our Texas Judicial System
I recently read an article about Texas inmate, Jerry Hartfield who has been imprisoned for over 32 years. After the State of Texas Appeals Court overturned his murder conviction and ordered to be given a new trial he still sits in jail. It's been 32 years and he is still waiting for his new trial. This story of Jerry Hatfield has haunted me, as it should you. Demand that he receive the new trial that he deserves!!

  • I Support Medicaid Expansion For Texas!
Lt. Governor David Dewhurst recently declared that in his opinion expanding Medicaid is "off the table." That is unacceptable. Expanding Medicaid would help over 1 million Texans gain insurance, allow hospital districts and counties to experience new financial and social benefits, and bring billions of dollars into Texas communities. Texas researchers projected that expanding Medicaid would be an economic windfall for our state, bringing 6 billion dollars into Texas between 2014 and 2017. This is enough money to pay for nearly 90,000 nurses or more than 33,200 family doctors, serving as a huge economic stimulus for our state. Texans must come together to declare their support of Medicaid expansion—an opportunity to cover all of our state’s uninsured citizens who earn up to 138% of the federal poverty level. Tell your Texas legislator right now that Texas and its residents need this solution and call on their public support to expand Medicaid today.

  • Try U.S,. Senator Mitch McConnell for treason
His openly stated goals and actions have and continue to show his behavior as treasonous. In his tenure, he has fought ANY bill that would restrict of reduce the number of jobs shipped to China including the continuance of tax breaks for outsourcing these jobs and all to his own benefit. His father-in-law is the multi-billionaire Chinese Industrialist, James Chao. During this time Mitch McConnell's net worth went from $4 million dollars four years ago to over $25 million dollars today. All from purposefully hurting the American economy to benefit his Chinese father-in-law's businesses and industries. That is treason.

  • Tasers for Teachers
Arming teachers with guns will put more children at risk of accidental death. Providing tasers to teachers would be a safer alternative for combatting potential harm by intruders. Please urge school districts to consider Tasers for Teachers!
