The United States and Canada are among only a few countries in the world that doesn't require labeling on our vegetables and fruit notifying us that the product is genetically modified. The DNA modifications can affect our bodies causing all sorts of problems. We need to know what we are eating in order for us to stay healthy and keep our medical costs down.

As a Pediatrician working mostly with youth taken into State custody, I find that a large fraction of the children are from substance abusing families, and that a large fraction of the teens evaluated are abusing tobacco, alcohol, marijuana and other harmful substances. I firmly believe that youths become dependant on, or addicted to chemicals more quickly than adults, and that the history of an individual's chemical dependency is generally a progression from tobacco to alcohol to marijuana--then sometimes tragically to harder drugs.

This is an idea that we should address. For too long we have been too complacent about the workings of Congress. Many citizens had no idea that members of Congress could retire with the same pay after only one term, that they specifically exempted themselves from many of the laws they have passed (such as being exempt from any fear of prosecution for sexual harassment) while ordinary citizens must live under those laws. The latest is to exempt themselves from the Healthcare Reform... in all of its forms. Also, their children do not have to repay their college loans. What a racket. Somehow, that doesn't seem logical. We do not have an elite that is above the law. I truly don't care if they are Democrat, Republican, Independent or whatever. The self-serving must stop.

All registered guns should be insured; as the way automobile insurance is. Manditory Gun Insurance would slow down the purchasing of guns. A medical and eye exam would be updated each year. And a mental exam would be necessary also for a permit to purcase a gun. A class in handling a weapon would also be needed. These forms of completion would have to be shown to the local law enforcement of each city. Insurance Companies might assist in this legislation for the revenues and fine tuning of this bill.

Rape and corruption.

Aetna just raised my individual health insurance policy 12 percent. Worse, according to the New York Times, "In California, Aetna is proposing rate increases of as much as 22 percent, Anthem Blue Cross 26 percent and Blue Shield of California 20 percent for some of those policy holders, according to the insurers’ filings with the state for 2013." Under current California law, our regulators can review rate requests only for technical errors but cannot deny rate increases. In other states, like New York, state regulators have denial authority and are already using it to curb these abuses.

Shell oil's drilling rig is floundering in Alaska seas even before drilling begins threatening to detroy our last pristine coastal area. Clearly Shell Oil (and EPA permitting process) have underestimated the difficulties of drilling there and Shell's permit should be revoked before they turn Alaska into another major oil disaster area.
