Jeffrey Hazen has started a petition to ask you to legalize state wide referendums. To my knowledge the legislature of Wisconsin can bring an issue to a statewide referendum only in the case of an amendment to the constitution of the state of Wisconsin. This is how it should be. Giving citizens the legal right to propose laws begs the question of why we would even have a legislative branch of our government. The point of representative democracy is so that we the people of the state of Wisconsin can elect supposed experts to write consistent, well thought out laws. When citizens, many of whom are not experts on law, are given the legal right to propose laws, there is a liability for inconsistent laws, poorly thought out laws, confusing laws, etc... If one merely looks at the example of California, one can see the abyss that direct democracy can lead. California has a petition signing industry. There are firms that cater to people who want to bring proposals to a state wide referendum. These firms charge for their services. Thus, the claim that direct democracy in the form of state wide referendums will dilute the power of money is laughable. Any corporation can pay a petition firm to get them enough signatures to get their desired proposal brought before the people. Then, the same sorts of propaganda that are used to get corrupt politicians elected will get their proposal passed. Citizen started statewide referendums do not dilute the power of money in our democracy. Further, when we look at California we notice that they haven't passed a budget on time in 5 years. They have seen budget deficits in the tens of billions of dollars consistently because the people are easily persuaded to increase services that the government offers them, but difficult to persuade to increase taxes in order to pay for those services. This has put California's entire economy in jeopardy. We don't need that in Wisconsin. The answer to our woes is not to give the people the power of a direct democracy.

We need to invest in our communities and keep middle-class families working and earning! By allowing us to invest in education, innovation and infrastructure, The Act to Invest in Our Communities proposal builds on our state's strengths, making life better for our families today and into the future. By asking more from high income households and investors who received large windfalls from the Bush tax cuts, while raising the personal exemption as a way to hold down the tax increase for middle-class families, the bill raises needed revenue primarily from those who can best afford to pay. With that revenue, we can keep the quality schools and services that make our state a good place to live and do business.

In a recent vote, Congressman Harris voted against Superstorm Sandy relief and flood insurance. However, he supported USDA emerency relief for the drought that hit his district over the summer. Why are the vicitms of Hurricane Sandy less deserving of federal aid?

Why would he not care for the people of our country? Would he vote NO if it happened here in NM?? President Obama "promised" those people help, and to this day most are still homeless and suffering.

The trade schools and the deregulated loan industry have caused several generations of Americans to be enslaved to repaying loans for an education that was skeletal and rudimentary at best, harmful at worst. These credits, which we were told were transferable to "any university" are not transferable at all. "Regional accrediting agency"? I personally live in Washington, yet my "credits" from Portland Oregon won't transfer to a school in Oregon, let alone Washington. I, personally, have been financially destroyed by Career Education Corp. and Stillwater bank. My student loan repayments outstrip my rent and bills. This is slavery.

There is a simple way to end gun deaths that will not require a constitutional amendment or take guns away from people. The solution is to ban the sale and use of lethal ammunition by civilians. A deranged person with murder on his or her mind might still inflict injury, in some cases even fatal, but not mass carnage.

Allow the BEST people to run INSTEAD of just the ones with the most money. Dismantle Citizens United and federally fund all elections including town-hall type runoff debates from the local level up. For a $1 donation on our tax returns the electoral system could be funded and we could enjoy truly Democratic Politics offering ALL talented Americans a fair opportunity to serve us in government.

Ever since the tragic shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School, there has been a move afoot to take advantage of this emotional situation and use it to severely damage our Constitutional Right to own firearms.

Television viewing costs keep rising.As consumers we have no choice but to purchase packages with multiple channels we do not want only to get the few channels that we do wish to view. This must stop and favor a reasonable individual choice of what citizens want to watch in their homes.I realize this petition may be aimed at a host of government offices and agencies as well as business It is time to bring this action to their attention and stop forced unwanted programming on the public
