Social security is critical to the health and well-being of my family. Not only did my parents and in-laws depend on it but my brothers and sisters also rely on social security benefits. Raising the retirement age or reducing the benefits will have a detrimental impact on my family.

The cuts in Social Security are opposed by an overwhelming majority of SignOn.org members and would amount to "a cut of more than 5 percent and more as the years go by." For many retirees this would mean critical cuts to benefits that cover medicine, food, and other daily necessities.

This week President Obama made an offer to Republican John Boehner to cut Social Security benefits and leave in place some of the Bush tax cuts for the top 2%. The cuts in Social Security are opposed by an overwhelming majority of SignOn.org members and would amount to "a cut of more than 5 percent and more as the years go by." For many retirees this would mean critical cuts to benefits that cover medicine, food, and other daily necessities. The good news is that many senators, including Senate Leader Harry Reid, have promised to oppose Social Security cuts in any deficit reduction package. If they hear from enough of their constituents, we can still get the Senate to reject this proposal and protect Social Security.

President Obama in a proposed fiscal cliff deal with John Boehner will decrease Social Security benefits by 5% in 2013 with more decreases to follow. These cuts decrease the already low income of elderly and disabled while people earning $400,000 or less will continue to see their incomes increase from the continued implementation of the Bush era tax cuts.

I know many individuals who bearly can live on social security now cuts will hurt them badly. End the Bush tax cuts instead.

Benefits for illegal aliens should be cut instead and we should stop sending the taxpayers' money to countries that hate us.

Congress has access to Social Security funds by allowing the SSA to buy treasury bonds and securities and using our money to balance the budget. Social Security and medicare should not be cut and Congress must be denied access to Social Security funds.

I AM OPPOSING ANY CUTS WHATSOEVER TO SOCIAL SECURITY, WHICH IS THE SOLE INCOME FOR MANY OF OUR SENIOR CITIZENS AND FOR WHICH THEY HAVE MADE CONTRIBUTIONS THROUGHOUT THEIR EMPLOYMENT. THE WEALTHY CAN AFFORD TO BE FURTHER TAXED.

I am a person on disability, who worked for 42 years and already paid for my benefits. Cut your high salaries instead. Congress does a below expectations job anyway. Stop uncalled wars!!!!

Stop cuts on Social Security

Cutting social security benefits should NOT be an option as we are struggling to make ends meet every day, and with rising cost of living, they are proposing the impossible for many...sort of like turning water into wine or parting the Red Sea! With each passing month, and rising costs, things are getting increasingly difficult. We do have options...food, medication, shelter...which will I do without this month! Hard to understand if you don't experience this every month.

President Obama and Legislators are planning to cut Social Security. This so called entitlement is precious to those that need it and those that will. Urge them to cut costs in the inflated government or perhaps their own health care benefits. But not social security.
