  • Save our Native Prairie Grasslands
The Fish and Wildlife Service has opened a 90 day period for open comment from the public and the scientific community. Four public hearing will be held in February and this petition will be presented at that time..The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is considering putting the Lesser Prairie Chicken on the "threatened" list under the Endangered Species Act. The decline in this species signals that our native grasslands are in trouble. These grasslands support dozens of migratory birds, farmers, ranchers and local communities across the southwest region. We will be working alongside the Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Land Management, and the Sutton Center to preserve our environment. For the people of these states, putting the lesser prairie chicken on the threatened list opens up the possibility of putting it being a stone in the road to impede the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline Upon learning of this consideration, lawmakers in major oil and gas districts yelled "Fowl." We cannot let these industries risk our environment. The Fish and Wildlife Service has opened a 90 day period for open comment from the public and the scientific community. Four public hearing will be held on: 1. Tuesday, February 5, 2013 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.At the High Plains Technology Center Seminar Center 3921 34th Street Woodward, OK 73801; 2, Thursday, February 7, 2013 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. @ the Garden City Community College 801 N. • Comcast: Allow subscribers to block Fox
I am a Comcast Television subscriber. I can only subscribe to Comcast's TV service by accepting a package of TV channels. When I subscribe to the package, I am supporting the channels in the package financially regardless of how offensive those channels are to me, and regardless of whether I watch those channels. Additionally, those channels are able to claim a wider viewer audience than they actually have (to sell advertising, for example).

  • Pension Plans First
I have met people who have lost their pensions due to bankruptcy. They no longer have that pension to count on when they retire. When a company goes into bankruptcy, the company should have to pay their pension obligations off first. Workers should not suffer during a bankruptcy when executives get big bonus' and full pay.

  • Put wolves back on the endangered species list
As a person who loves animals and cares about maintaining the balance of our natural environment, of which wolves are a vital part, I fear that they will be driven to the point of extinction(again.) Many people seem to have nothing but contempt for them and would happily see them wiped out.

  • Don't Let the 0.1% Fast Track a Corporate Coup; Stop the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) Secret N...
Branded as a 'trade agreement', the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) is actually a stealth delivery mechanism for insidious policies that could not survive the light of day. In fact, only two of the twenty-six chapters of this corporate coup agreement concern traditional trade issues. It has been negotiated under conditions of extreme secrecy with no press, public or policymaker oversight. While some 600 official U.S. corporate advisors have full access to TPP documents and a special role in advising U.S. negotiators, our U.S. Senators and Representatives have not even seen the draft text! Leaked draft documents from the TPP negotiations reveal a massive corporate assault aimed at severely limiting our ability to: Stop off-shoring millions of American jobs Protect our internet freedom Promote "Buy American" policies Protect us from unsafe food and products Protect our environmental laws Impose oversight on the banksters Expand access to affordable medicine Create green jobs and rebuild our economy The Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) will establish a parallel court system allowing multinational corporations to bypass U.S. courts, and sue countries before tribunals which are unaccountable to democratically elected representatives. TPP member countries will have little to no right to appeal. The Obama administration has indicated that a requirement for the conclusion of TPP negotiations is the renewal of "Fast Track" Trade Promotion Authority. Fast Track requires legislators to simply vote "yes" or "no" on hundreds upon hundreds of pages of binding text. Legislators are denied their constitutional authority to amend the terms of the agreement, shielding the terms of the agreement from public inspection. Once finalized, the Trans Pacific Partnership agreement will likely be our last U.S. trade agreement. The TPP is currently being negotiated by the U.S. and ten other countries, but is intended as a "docking agreement" that other Pacific Rim countries would join over time. The Trans Pacific Partnership has been called “NAFTA on steroids”, and the agreement will have no expiration date. We need to block the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) before it overrides generations of U.S. law. Sign today and let Congress know you support the demand to bring TPP negotiations into the light. For more information go to http://www.citizen.org/TPP and http://tppxborder.org/ Want to do more? E-mail this petition to everyone you know right now! Sign on to an organizational statement of unity to oppose the TPP. See http://tppxborder.org/organizational-statement-of-unity/. Call your U.S. Senators and U.S. Representatives and tell them to demand an end to Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) secret negotiations.

  • Obama: Declare a Marine Monument to Protect California from Offshore Oil
The northern California coast is one of the most biologically diverse and productive marine ecosystems in the world thanks to protections in place by the National Marine Sanctuary system. However, a broadly supported local effort to expand the Sanctuary boundaries, Representative Lynn Woolsey’s bill (HR 192), has stalled in Congress. Your support is needed today to urge President Barak Obama to declare a protective marine monument in the area proposed for Marine Sanctuary expansion by Woolsey in HR 192. Obama has the power of executive order to grant Californian’s this wonderful gift and provide Rep. Woolsey closure to her campaign to protect California’s Marin, Sonoma and Mendocino coasts from the threats of offshore oil drilling before she retires at the end of this term. The plan to expand the Gulf of the Farallones and Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuaries from Marin north through the entire Sonoma Coast to Point Arena in southern Mendocino County has wide support from California elected officials, local governments, the Marin County Board of Supervisors, the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors, fishing organizations, businesses, chambers of commerce and environmental groups. Expanding the National Marine Sanctuaries would prevent oil drilling and offer other protections to an area that is one of the most biologically productive regions in the entire world. It would ensure that this vital area would be protected so it can continue to provide jobs for the coastal economy, the tourism industry, and the commercial and recreational fishing communities. President Obama has less that a month to act before Rep. Woolsey leaves office! Her replacement, Jared Huffman, is also a strong supporter of HR 192. Obama can follow his predecessors in establishing marine monuments through executive order; in January 2000, President Bill Clinton established the California Coastal National Monument by executive order, protecting all the islets, reefs and rock outcroppings — including the Farallon Islands — along the 840-mile California coast; in 2006, President George Bush, inspired by his wife, Laura, created the Papahanaumokuakea National Marine Monument northwest of Hawaii and created the largest protected area in U.S. waters! Join the Turtle Island Restoration Network in urging President Obama to take swift and decisive action to create a marine monument for the preservation of California’s valuable marine wildlife and the security of this ecosystem that we all depend on.

  • Governor Martinez: Expand Medicaid in NM
Thousands of NM citizens are without health insurance right now. By expanding Medicaid in New Mexico under the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) we can ensure those citizens, who are our friends and neighbors, will be able to obtain health insurance and access health care when they need it. Expanding Medicaid in NM will also create hundreds of new jobs in our state.
