lessen the chances or mentally unstable individuals owning a gun

I am a mother of four children and a Georgia public school teacher. I cannot sit idly as armed gunmen enter our public schools and kill innocent, unarmed students and public school staff. The safety of our children is grossly overestimated. Schools are wide open to this sort of violence and we must address the problem TODAY.

How much is the U.S. congress costing the citizens of this country each year? We need a complete accounting of their income from lobbying and personal funds, expenditures for staff, office supplies, travel, etc. How many days of the year do they do actual work for the taxpayer, not counting travel times to and from their home base and junkets.

This petition seeks promote public safety by tracking purchases of high volumes of ammunition. This petition recommends developing and maintaining a national database and permitting system to track purchases of ammunition.

Florida is one of 4 states that does not restore voting rights to felons who have served their sentences, completed parole or probation, or any combination of these. Instead, Florida has a complicated, lengthy and costly petition process to get rights restored. Last year only 78 successfully made it through the process, and most don't even try. Year after year in voter registration drives, I am saddened to see the shame and bitterness on so many faces, often because of a mistake made in their youth, when they say they will never be allowed to vote. How can we expect responsible civic participation from all these people, when they are told they will be disenfranchised for life? We all lose.

Seeing how many children and staff in Schools DIEING for an unecessary death. I have grandchildren who is at school age. One is getting ready to go to kindergarten. It is scary how you send your kids to school where you think our children are safe. Proof shows they are not safe due to lack of trained Security. You are not safe anywhere. You can run but you can not hide. Crime will follow you. Sad but true. You think living in the country suburbs your safe. They're crazy people all over.

27 people were killed in an elementary school shooting today. Most of them were children. Assault weapons were used. We need immediate action to ban assault weapons. There have been too many massacres. This needs to stop now.

Another massacre. Another outpouring of grief. Not another ignoring of the problem. Actually, guns DO kill people.

These senseless tools must not be sold!

Mass shootings at schools, like the one that just occurred in Connecticut, could be reduced if there was a school resource officer assigned to every school in the nation. Like any other rational person in this country, I am outraged by the continuing lack of discussion about gun control in the wake of the almost weekly mass shootings like the one in Newtown, Connecticut. President Obama's uncharacteristic lack of nerve in the face of the NRA's lobbying power during his first term must now become a thing of the past. Never mind that the President now no longer has to worry about running for re-election. Surely, his conscience, as a parent of two school-age children not much older than the victims of this and other shootings, must drive him to enact serious, meaningful gun control legislation through Congress.

It is time for this country to get serious about controlling guns and banning weapons designed for killing people.
