The student loan program has only served to put students in debt and put them at a weaker position in the economy. Where other countries in Europe feel that education is a right and does not put their students in debt because they chose to pursue an education and better themselves, our system chooses to punish students. Increasing grants is simply not enough. Either the government provides more ways to abolish student debt or chooses the better of option of making public institutions affordable by covering the cost of tuition. As a retired citizen, I do not feel I should pay more tax than the rich in our society. Basic economic principle suggests that if the poor and middle class - the 98%, does not have the money to spend, the economy crumbles. The 1-2% are not the only job creators in this country, so this idea being touted by the Republican Congress, that if the rich were fairly taxed, it would prevent job growth, is ill conceived. The rich supports paying a bit more to generate revenue.

Religious institutions enjoy the same constitutional rights as private and corporate citizens, but don't have to pay for those rights through taxes like the private and corporate citizens. Churches are businesses too, and very successful ones at that, they should pay their fair share,and help ease our tax burden, and lower the deficit.

Demand an end to the mutual attacks by Israeli Defense Forces and the outgunned Palesinian forces of Hamas. Demand that both sides--Israel and Palestine--recognize each other's right to exist in peace and dignity. Withhold Federal aid and military from both sides until sound ideological grounds for coexistence is reached. No more "pushing Israel into the sea", or saying "Palestine is not a nation."

We lost our home! Work is Slow! I need more work to met the everyday rising costs of living in America where Utilites get more than needs. Many of our friends are in the same situation. An effort to get congress moving on solutions instead of political power. The current congressional environment is in total stalemate and progressives need to take the first step to move forward.

This cruel and inhumane practice is still continuing because people who buy pets in pet stores have no idea how horrible these "factories" are. Regulation is pointless. Shelters are full. The owners of these mills are unconcerned about the animals that are used simply for breeding.

I would like to see President Obama make a strong statement, in these difficult fiscal times, by forgoing his Inaugural Ball on January 22 (or Jan. 21?) and asking his donors to give the money to those who lost so much in Hurricane Sandy.
