Get New Yorkers the Medical Care They Need! The storm is over but the healthcare crisis in New York is still unfolding – and likely to get worse. The response from city, state, and federal officials has been too little and too late. Urgent action and greater coordination are needed to help thousands of people in desperate need. Several of New York City’s critical care hospitals – Coney Island Hospital, Bellevue Hospital, and NYU Langone – are projected to be closed for months to come, making for a health hazard of epic proportions. There’s currently no Level 1 Trauma Center from 57th Street to the tip of Manhattan! Thousands of New Yorkers – in Staten Island, the Rockaways, Coney Island, and beyond – are still stuck in their homes with no heat, no electricity, and urgent, and unattended, medical needs. Many of these people will get worse the longer they go unattended. Children and seniors are especially in need of attention. Access to medication and medical devices is severely limited. We need to hold Mayor Bloomberg accountable for getting healthcare to New Yorkers who need it. Please sign this petition to demand that Mayor Bloomberg take immediate action to care for New Yorkers who have severely limited access to healthcare. Don’t let a natural disaster be followed by a public health disaster.3 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Caitlin Boston

President Obama: Reopen the CCC and Revitalize the LandParts of my once beautiful homeland in the Appalachian Mountains now look like war zones, with craters and plateaus where 525 mountains once stood. Revitalizing the regions of the country that have been adversely affected by industrial utilization is crucially important to our future and needs to be a top priority.118 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Hazel Landers

Fight for Country-of-Origin LabelingThe Country of Origin Labeling Act (COOL) was passed in Washington as part of the 2002 Farm Bill. Starting in 2008, COOL ordered U.S. retailers to notify their customers, by way of labeling, on the sources of many meats, fish, fruits, vegetables, and some nuts sold in their stores. In November of 2011, the World Trade Organization (WTO) declared that the law violated parts of the WTO's Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT). Even though Washington appealed the ruling last March, the WTO Appellate Body upheld its decision, stating that COOL "has a detrimental impact on imported livestock." As citizens of the United States, we reject the WTO's authority to undermine our domestic laws. COOL does not discriminate against any country by requiring labeling. We ask that our government defend this consumer right and take a stand for our nation's sovereignty by disregarding the WTO's ruling on COOL.132 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Joel D. Joseph

Lift the Embargo on Cuba Now!We have voted for President Obama to work for us and this blockade is about 50 years old. This is the time to lift embargo on Cuba who helped release Nelson Mandela from jail. They send 200 medical doctors to Ghana every year to work in the remote villages. We should trade and be able to visit Cuba.2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Isaac Kusi

Keep NC Frack FreeHydraulic fracturing, or "fracking," has contaminated drinking water supplies and waterways, increased air pollution, and marred landscapes in the states where it is prevalent. Now, out-of-state oil and gas companies want to bring this risky drilling practice to North Carolina, which could threaten Jordan Lake, the Eno River, the Deep River-- and the drinking water supplies for hundreds of thousands. In a controversial vote, the North Carolina General Assembly has lifted some restrictions on fracking, but a moratorium on drilling remains. Sign our petition to make sure we protect our water, air, and quality of life from the form of gas drilling that has been linked to more than 1,000 cases of water contamination around the country.5,470 of 6,000 SignaturesCreated by Dave Rogers

Do not throw our kids over the fiscal cliff; raise taxes on wealthy & cut Race to the Top instead!Hugely damaging across-the-board education cuts will occur, causing increased class size & loss of essential services to kids, unless the President & the Congress agree on a budget which raises revenue and saves expenses. Please urge them avoid this outcome by raising taxes on the wealthiest Americans, who should be paying their fair share, and by cutting non-essential & even damaging programs, like "Race to the Top" and other competitive federal grants, promoting more high-stakes testing, merit pay, school closings, mass teacher firings, and the expansion of online learning, which replaces the personal attention that children need to succeed. None of these programs have any evidence to support them and are creating havoc and rising discontent among parents, teachers & other concerned citizens throughout the country.999 of 1,000 SignaturesCreated by Leonie Haimson, Class Size Matters

Make the filibuster a real filibusterToo often, good ideas die in the Senate even when they have majority support because a single Senator can tie up the process and prevent an up-or-down vote. They can do this not by mounting an impassioned lengthy floor speech, but by making one quick call and then heading out to dinner. If Senators want to filibuster, they should be required to stand on the floor and make their case to the American people with a real, talking filibuster. Please, sign our petition in support of making the filibuster a real, talking filibuster.254 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Chris Bowers

Support General PetraeusI believe it's time for ALL citizens-Democrats,Republicans, the Far Left to the Far Right, to come to the support of a great American. While our country is saddly deeply divided on many issues, it is painful to see a man whose life has been dedicated to our country so arrogantly besmirched for a personal and sad indiscretion.15 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Bill Dorfman
