• Support legislation to rename the FBI Headquarters and remove any reference to J. Edgar Hoover
It is unconscionable that we have a building named after this man. Although symbolic, I think that this change will send a strong message that there is a new era of justice in the USA.

  • Prevent Future Forever Wars: Repeal the 2001 AUMF
America should not be in the business for forever wars. The 20 year military occupation cost over $2 trillion and approximately 241,000 lives and ended as it began - with Taliban control of Afghanistan. That money went to the bloated Pentagon budget, defense contractors and the ultra-wealthy instead of our communities to fund schools, roads, and health care. Dropping bombs and waging violence does not bring peace. The House has already repealed the 2001 Authorization of Military Force (AUMF), and now it is on the Senate to act. The AUMF gives too much authority to the president to engage in military conflicts without Congressional oversight. Add your name to prevent future forever wars and demand the Senate repeal the 2001 AUMF.

  • We support Afghan refugees
Thousands have evacuated from Afghanistan and are now looking to make a new life in the U.S. They came with few possessions and need support from the government as they resettle. The U.S. has a responsibility to welcome as many people as possible, since we contributed to the humanitarian crisis with our 20 year military occupation. This includes waiving the $575 humanitarian parole application fee, adding Afghanistan to the Temporary Protected Status program, giving unaccompanied minors immediate parole status, and ensuring resettlement agencies have the funds they need to support the increased number of refugees. Sign now to demonstrate the public supports welcoming Afghan refugees and ask President Biden to act.

  • GIVE FELONS THEIR RIGHTS BACK AFTER TIME SERVED
Because everyone makes mistakes. If those people who messed up have changed wholeheartedly and completed their time served and haven’t been in trouble since, they deserve their rights to be restored. To gain their life and freedom back. To be better than they were before.

  • Demand that the Portland and Bangor Maine NBC affiliates stop running ads for My Pillow products
WCSH in Portland Maine has recently been airing public service announcements by many of their news anchors and reporters highlighting their commitment to airing factual information and standing behind the truth. The fact that the station continues to air advertisements by a far right conspiracy theorist who refuses to acknowledge the results of the 2020 election seems to me to be hypocritical and hollow. Station managers need to walk the walk and not just talk the talk.

  • Stop toll lanes highway widening proposal in Maryland
The project would induce demand by motorists, increasing car exhaust emissions (greenhouse gases) which cause global warming. We are in a climate crisis and we must cut back on burning of fossil fuels, not increase it. The project would adversely impact wetlands and increase runoff. The toll charges for motorists would be exorbitant.

  • The state of Texas has to be stopped from adding false charges to increase an inmates time
Because I know other people believe that people in jail are still human. Some have made awful decisions and some made dumb decisions but others are really remorseful and doing their best to change their life. There are people in Texas with very excessive sentences with low level, non violent crimes. My loved is in that category, and now he has been set up by someone and the investigation has been very poor. Very one sided and he’s fighting as hard as he can in there and we are fighting as hard as we can out here to help him prove his innocence to what he’s now being charged with and it is hard. The state of Texas does not care. He’s been in solitary confinement for over a month now until the investigation is over, they ALREADY increased his projected release date. I and many others that love him have contacted the TDCJ OMBUDSMAN department about this matter and we are praying they do their job as well. I visited with him and he’s lost weight, he’s trying very hard not to go crazy in solitary, he’s never dealt with high blood pressure and his blood pressure is running around 184/120 daily! That’s stroke & heart attack level‼️ The jails do NOT care. He is not in jail for murder, drugs, robbery etc. The state of Texas is quick to charge people in jail without thorough investigations. The way my loved ones and I’m sure many others are treated in these situations are very inhumane, it has to STOP and we need help 🙏🏽

  • Change L&I interpreter payment policies
Working for L&I is a risky proposition. Right now we show up for and appointment only to find out that either it was cancelled without alerting the interpreter or that the LEP patient doesn't show up. We lose money each time this happens because L&I doesn't reimburse us for our mileage or for the time that we reserved on our calendars which makes us unavailable to accept other requests. In addition, when the provider schedules us for 60 minutes but the service only lasts 15, we lose money each time this happens because L&I doesn't pay for that time that we made ourselves unavailable for other requests. L&I's payment policies are the reason why many interpreters violate the code of ethics to contact and even harass LEP patients to ensure they show up. These policies also foster unhealthy relationships with providers so that invoices show lengthier durations. By not treating interpreters as the professionals they are, L&I disrespects us on a daily basis. We ask that all interpreters who render services paid by L&I sign this petition. Please sign the petition to show L&I INTERPRETERS ARE ALL UNITED behind these demands!

  • We are your healthcare workers. We are your front lines.
We are local Doctors, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants’, Nurses, First Responders & Healthcare Workers. We are parents in our community. We are tired. We are doing everything we can, working tirelessly, to keep our community safe and healthy. We are asking that you please help us to keep our kids safe and make masks mandatory this fall in our schools. In the past month, the pandemic has worsened as the delta variant has spread across NC and the country. Covid-19 rates and hospitalizations have increased. Pediatric Covid-19 cases are rising nationwide and locally. Local pediatric hospitals are overrun with Covid-19 and RSV. Universal indoor masking for grades K-12 is currently recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Medical Association, and the CDC. Universal masking is part of the layered mitigation strategy that works to slow the spread of COVID-19. Masking helps keep kids in school and keeps children, teachers, and school staff from becoming ill. Masking will help enable more consistent in-person learning this fall. Children under the age of 12 do not currently have access to the Covid-19 vaccine. Some of our children are immunocompromised and are especially vulnerable to Covid-19. Without a mask, these children are significantly at risk. We need to take steps to ensure a safe environment for ALL children, including those who are more vulnerable due to pre-existing conditions or social determinants of health. Along with the physical risks, the detriments of the inevitable school closures and quarantining that will occur without universal masking are numerous. We, as healthcare providers, have seen a large increase in anxiety and depression in our youth. We have seen an increase in pediatric obesity due to children being home unsupervised because many parents cannot afford to stay home. Child abuse increased across the nation from children being home more in an unsafe environment. School is a safe haven for many children across the country, and our community is not immune to that. We are a small community with already limited healthcare resources. If changes are not made soon, there will come a point where the sheer volume of illness overwhelms our healthcare resources completely and patients—children—will not have access to care. We need every healthcare provider we have and many of us are parents. The board needs to consider that if we become ill, we will be unavailable to serve the community. If our children become ill and we need to be home with them, we will be unavailable to serve the community. There is no one waiting in the wings to fill our positions. The community will simply be without care. Again, we ask, please help us keep our children of Dare County safe and be the leadership that our children need. Sincerely, Marielle Silk, FNP; Kellie Flock Byrne, PA and Sarah Summerton, FNP
