When the Twin Towers collapsed on 9/11/01, Mohammad Salman Hamdani, a NYPD cadet was one of the first responders pulling people out of the rubble. Sadly, like many of the other first responders that day, he never returned home. His nation and his city first dishonored his legacy and his name when they actually suspected him to be a conspirator, then by misplacing his name on the 9/11 Memorial in Lower Manhattan they did it a second time. This is a slight that cannot be allowed to be forgotten and justice must be done. Mohammad's name deserves its rightful placement.

There is a constant issue with oil prices and the drilling for oil in the United States. It is my understanding approximately half of our oil is exported. The public should be aware of what is happening to our domestic oil before we open up our coasts and Alaska to more drilling. Oil companies should give a quarterly report on how many millions of barrels of our oil they are exporting.

A petition to protect our Hawaii Harbors from possible Black Oil pollution, during discharge operations. That every fuel barge discharging Black Oil at the harbor fuel docks, have a containment boom surrounding in case of a spill.

Recycling and sustainability have long been a great concern for me because it is a simple thing to do but it can make a huge difference. The facts are clear from the 10 states with bottle bills that many jobs are created (The Container Recycling Institute's documented study estimates a national bottle deposit law will create 100,000 jobs), litter is dramatically reduced (cuts costly taxpayer-funded roadside and waterway clean-ups), and recycling participation improves significantly with financial incentive (20% participation rate rises to 80% almost overnight with container deposit law and bag tax implementation). A National $.25 Single-use Use Bag Tax would give $.05 back to retailers to enable them to do free or low-cost reusable bag promotions. $.10 would go directly into a grant program established by local communities to fund community building but chronically underfunded programs for youth and others in mentoring, animal and nature therapy and education, sustainable community gardens, the arts, and a wide range of non-profit and school groups that are really making a difference and need to be expanded instead of cut. The final $.10 would go to land and sea plastic pollution clean-up efforts and awareness campaigns. Hundreds of tons of carbon are prevented from being released by using recycled over virgin materials in container production. Reduced consumption of bags is also a greenhouse gas saver. Taxing an industry that is creating a burden on society is not a new idea; adopting a nationwide bottle and bag bill is common sense. A federal law would require that all states have their own container deposit and single-use bag tax/grant programs in place by September, 2013. Colorado has made regulations to where Wildlife Sanctuaries cannot help animals from other States. These Animal Sanctuaries would use their money to relocate the poor animals who have NO chance. Pretty soon myself, and others in our State / Other States will not have the Wildlife to see. With starvation, or killing them when they try to get food, etc.

We can all agree that clothes are a very essential part of American culture. A lot of us say "who we are" through the clothes that we wear. It is a problem that most stores do not offer plus size clothes; it has a negative impact on teens who need a range of styles to express themselves. The stores that carry plus sizes are not always fashionable, which makes overweight teens feel even more self-conscious. We want all stores to make clothes for people of all sizes.

Sen. Scott Brown's staff members (with their salaries paid by taxpayers) are taking time from their duties serving constituents to engage in war whoops and tomahawk chops, invoking belittling Native American stereotypes in order to demean Elizabeth Warren. They must step down.

This Petition is for the Creation of a Democratic Deliberative Assembly in Arcata, CA that will meet regularly, be open to public participation, and will create Resolutions with the force of Democratic Law. The first signers of this Petition should take great pride in putting their names on this document. They have become a part of American History in doing so. There are indications a "grand deal" on Social Security will take place after the election whereby payment amounts will be figured a different way, based on "chaining CPI (consumer price index), which would reduce the amount of money people would receive. Social Security has such a huge surplus of money it is funded until about 2033. It is not a part of the current fiscal deficit and should be left alone. It does not need entitlement reform.

Alice Smith, foster mother to 5 special needs children, is facing eviction by Penny Mac and Citibank. In 2009, Citibank offered her a loan modification over the phone and she made a payment. A few months later, they sent her payment back and denied the modification they initially offered her. She has been fighting Citibank ever since. Now, Penny Mac, who Citibank sold the loan to, is evicting Alice and her foster family Wednesday, Oct. 3rd. We are DONE with banks making mistakes and working families having to pay. Demand that CEO's of Penny Mac and Citibank stop the eviction and offer her an affordable loan modification.
