• Guns Don't Kill People, Bullets Kill People
Colorado shooting suspect James Holmes purchased 6,000 rounds of ammunition online in the weeks leading up to his militaristic assault at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado. According to Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates said, "All ammunition he possessed, he possessed legally." If recent history is a guide, this mass shooting is unlikely to change political sentiment about guns rights and gun control in any lasting way. Previous shooting rampages, like those at Columbine High School and Virginia Tech, produced only brief calls for stricter gun laws which ultimately fell silent to the protests of the NRA.

  • Medicare
The Social Security Administration needs to be examined by the House Oversight Committee. This government agency does not serve the interests of the American public and is an enemy of senior Americans. The draconian penalties of multiple 10% cumulative penalties over the lifetime of citizens which no public or private organization, including the IRS, is permitted to extract from any client is outrageous..Compared to any private for-profit insurer, the SSA is the worst provider of health care. We must never permit the SSA to administer any health care insurance and certainly not a single payer program.

  • Mitt Romney: Reveal your secret donors
It’s time we return to government of, by and for the people--not government of, bought, and paid for by special interests. The job of a Wall Street banker is to get a good return on their investment, and unfortunately, they’ve taken those skills to Washington--and now the presidency. Mitt Romney is attending an elite London fundraiser--$25,000 to $75,000 per plate--hosted by the CEOs at the center of the LIBOR scandal threatening our already fragile economy. Executives of at least three other banks under investigation are co-chairs of the fundraiser, according to invitations obtained by The Washington Post. At the same time, too many Americans are falling out of the middle class when they are working hard to climb the ladder into it. In fact, middle-class workers have seen their incomes drop by nearly 8 percent in three years and their wealth disappear by a staggering 40%. We believe politicians should work for us, not their corporate sponsors. It is time for Mitt Romney to fully disclose his donors--and how much they are giving to his campaign. As a Clean Elections candidate in Maine, every $5 qualifying contribution I collect to earn public financing—and all my campaign expenses—are fully disclosed. Shouldn't we expect someone running for the highest office in the land to at least disclose how much money he is getting from bank CEOs linked to LIBOR corruption? If the name of someone donating $5 should be disclosed, isn't it time someone donating $5,000 or $5,000,000 should, too?

  • Protect the Rohingyas of Burma from Slaughter and Persecution
The Rohingyas of Burma are facing a brutal double assault by the Burmese government and Buddhist majority. Over the past months, scores of innocent Rohingya have been killed by the military as well as Buddhist monks. The ones that flee their homes to save their lives have nowhere to go! Influential Burmese people are inciting hatred against this ethnic minority through social media. • Health Care for All Citizens Anytime, All the Time
For most of my life as a single mom, I did not have health care for myself or my child. If a doctor was needed, I paid cash. My best plan was to educate myself about how to keep us healthy including chiropractic. Insurance offered to me was limited and did not include the choices I wanted and needed.

  • Stop Voter Supression
About the new voting rules that you must show your picture ID. Isn't this a little racist, in this day & age? How about the people who have trouble with their eyesight, do not drive, and are elderly, guess that doesn't matter. Please put a stop to this nonsense now. If something happens out there because of these voter rules how would you like your new ID rules to be the cause of it. I would not like to take the responsibility for passing these laws.

  • Tell Dan Cathy that we support Equality
Recently Chick Fil A took an even greater stance against equal rights by donating a large sum of money to organizations that support anti-gay rights. In short, they believe that their stance has nothing to do with their feelings about gays in general, just their right to marry and enjoy the same rights they do. I am not gay but I support my friends, neighbors, and fellow human's right to live the same life I live unencumbered by the religious preferences of a few. If you agree with this, please sign below to let Dan Cathy know we do not want our hard earned dollars going to support anti-gay legislation and we will not support businesses that do. As a minister and mother I believe in doing the right thing and my part to make the world a better place. I do not see how acknowledging the love of two people, regardless of their gender, inhibits that. If you do not agree with this, please keep any intolerant rhetoric to yourself and skip signing. " Be the change you want to see in the world." ...Ghandi

  • Savannah Dietrich Right to Name Attacker
Savannah Dietrich is a 17-year-old girl who recently tweeted about being sexually abused and named her attacker. Then, she was threatened with jail time because the attorneys for her attackers said she had violated their privacy. Under a barrage of public criticism, the motion to charge Savannah was dropped, but it's unacceptable that she was ever threatened with jail time just for identifying the who raped her. As a teenager I was violently raped. I remember the physical and mental pain. Internally I was overwhelmed with shame and a sense of being ostracized from family, friends, and society. This period of time was very traumatic. It took many years before I talked about what happened because I was afraid of what people would say. It took an inordinate amount of courage for Savannah to name her attackers in a public forum. She is a hero. Instead of trying to put her in jail, we should support her. Her actions may encourage other young females and males to stand up and name their assailants.
