• Save the Popular Culture Building
What makes a university special? The students and faculty, of course -- but also the programs and places that make an institution of higher learning truly special. Bowling Green State University is fortunate to have an internationally recognized Popular Culture Program that is housed in a very special (and appropriate) building -- a Montgomery Ward catalog house, known as a Wardway kit house, that was the home of several presidents before Pop Culture took up residency there in the 1970s. The Popular Culture Building is one of the last Wardway kit houses to be constructed, and lovers of both history and pop culture can appreciate what it says about small-town living in the years before the Depression. No one who understands the building's history would want to lose a treasure like this; please sign this petition to tell the BGSU administration that they must not raze the Popular Culture Building, a distinctive and significant part of BGSU's culture.

  • North Carolinians Want Facebook Voter Registration
Washington State will be the first state to offer voter registration through a Facebook account. Let's have NC be the second state. While some are trying to suppress voter registration this is a great way we can encourage it especially for our youth. We all know our youth are our future, so let's help them to become involved in our political future as well. I know that's what I want for my 20-year old daughter. How about you? http://news.yahoo.com/washington-state-first-launch-facebook-voter-registration-015230746--sector.html

  • GUN CONTROL
This petition is not about stopping persons who want to protect their homes from doing so. It is about taking control. It's time to come up with a new plan to protect the populace.

  • End the Electoral College
Electing the President of the United States by direct one person, one vote. Ending the outdated electoral college system which in effect, disenfranchises the majority of Americans who are in either safe Democratic or safe Republican states. Our presidential elections are decided by maybe 10 states. This flies in the face of democracy. There are several ways to do this, constitutional amendment, or through the state legislatures who would vote to apportion their electors. It is absurd to maintain the electoral college. It serves no useful purpose except to preserve a two party system that is not working. Please sign this petition which will be delivered to Congress and the President.

  • Don't Tax Medicine, Connecticut!
The State of Connecticut charges sales tax for doctor-prescribed over-the-counter medicine, such as Mucinex and Triaminic. I brought this to the attention of a State Representative and - heard nothing. My child had pneumonia and part of her protocol, per her pediatrician, was over-the-counter medicines. Rite Aid charged sales tax. When I asked the clerk if the billing was correct, she sadly said yes. What a poor way to raise state revenue!

  • REINSTATE SHERIFF ROSS MIRKARIMI
In December, 2011, San Francisco sheriff-elect Ross Mirkarimi was involved in a domestic dispute with his wife. Domestic violence charges were filed five days after Mirkarimi was sworn to office in January, 2012. In March, the sheriff pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of false imprisonment and was sentenced by the city to three years probation, one year of domestic violence classes, parenting classes, 100 hours of community service and fines. One week later the sheriff was suspended without pay by Mayor Ed Lee who then called on the San Francisco Ethics Commission to investigate the sheriff for official misconduct. An Ethics Commission report will be presented to the San Francisco board of supervisors for a final vote to determine whether or not the sheriff will be reinstated to office.

  • Save the Northside Community Garden
We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge our leaders to act now to save the community garden that volunteers from the Saint Louis community have been growing for months. We have just celebrated our three month anniversary of creating a garden of flowers, organic vegetables, and other plants for the community on the corner of Red Bud and Carter in Saint Louis, Missouri. This lot remained vacant for at least 20 years and now is finally being used to benefit all people with free fresh vegetables for everyone in the community. The children of the community have been tending to the garden and learning valuable lessons about agriculture and farming, as well as how to take care of the environment. Unfortunately, we are now learning that there are plans to turn the space into a parking lot for a nearby facility. We are taking a pro-active stance in case something happens to the garden that has become a place of family gatherings, community cook-outs, and a place of peace for everyone who lives here. We urge you to donate the land to the community as a show of good faith, so that we can all continue to benefit from the Northside Community Garden as well as future gardens to come.

  • Put medical marijuana on the ballot in Encinitas
Enough signatures have been gathered in Encinitas to put a medical marijuana bill on the ballot. The only problem is that the city has canceled the only council meeting where they can vote to put it on the November 2012 ballot. If that meeting doesn't get reinstated, the voters of Encinitas wont be able to vote on this issue until 2014. Please sign the petition to ask them to reinstate that meeting.

  • VTA: Kids Shouldn't Pay!
When I recently moved to San Jose, I wanted to do what's best for the environment, and my wallet, by using public transportation whenever possible. My first trip to the grocery store on VTA left me shocked when I discovered that a single mom with 2 young children ends up paying $16 per day to take VTA! We're calling on VTA to encourage the use of public transportation by allowing children too young to ride alone (under 12) to ride free with a paid adult.
