• An Amendment Limiting Political Contributions
The United States was founded on the fundamental right of citizens to have a voice in their government. The Citizens United ruling has given corporations and individuals with huge sums of money a disproportionate voice in the financing of political campaigns, effectively limiting the First Amendment freedoms of individual citizens to participate in their government.

  • Congresional Reform
Congressional Reform Act of 2012 1. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they're out of office. 2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose. 3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do. 4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%. 5. Congress loses their current health care system and Participates in the same health care system as the American people. 6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people. 7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void effective 12/1/12. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen/women. Congress made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

  • Adequate Teaching Certification
As an Art major and undergraduate from a major college, the government still requires math and reading testing scores to become a highly qualified teacher in public education. Reading and Arithmetic skills are imperative to becoming an excellent teacher; but the testing criteria for teacher certification requirements are truly archaic and non-relevant. Classroom management skills, behavior development and adolescent psychology, and time management would certainly portray a more accurate assessment of an educational leader within an academic setting. I was a teacher with provisional certification only for six years and due to not achieving a passing score with a difference of 7 points, was unable to attain “highly qualified” status, therefore forced to loose over half my income and become a teaching assistant only. There may be plenty of educators that have excellent test taking skills and can still regurgitate their high school curricula but simply are not effective educators because they lack “people” skills. I implore you to let our government education leaders, congressmen, senators and local community leaders that it is truly time for a change. Extremely gifted people with incredible nurturing and teaching talents are being denied the opportunities to help today’s youth graduate and continue the American dream of a career and the pursuit of happiness beyond just a low paying dead-end job. Sign this petition, not only for the discrimination of college graduates but to help our kids reach their goals and aspirations beyond high school.

  • Stop Wells Fargo, Bank of America and others from ending senior accounts
As of August 1 these banks will convert senior accounts to fee carrying accounts. These banks are making record profits. They will increase those profits by ending senior accounts. Many seniors have limited income and benefit from having no fee attached to their senior accounts.

  • Sensible Gun Regulations
This is not a petition to ban fireams, only the demand for sensible regulation. No more sales of automatic weapons such as the AK 47 which allows mass killing. No more state laws that allow people to carry concealed weapons everywhere, as in Florida. More background information before guns are sold. Everytime these senseless murders of children & innocent people occur, I ask why are our legistatures so gutless that they cannot buck the gun lobby? Why are we standing by and doing nothing?

  • Stop Iowa City TIF Gifts Now!
Taxpayer subsidized private development in the form of Tax Incremental Financing (TIF) is a perversion of the intent of the legislation. It's use diminishes the tax revenues available to our schools and county government for an extended period of time, sometimes up to 20 or 25 years or more.

  • Change the second amendment.
I have only witnessed this horror on tv. Unfortunately it's not the first time. We have noooooooo gun control. Why can't we run our country likes the English. In England even the "bobbies" don't carry guns. Things will just keep going on in this place. Nothing will change.

  • Prevent more mass murders
Mass murderers want to see themselves on TV. The media should refer to them only in the third person, with no pictures. Freedom of the press means the media has the right to not give these fiends what they want most.
