• Facebook: 13 is Not The Age of Majority
After my nephew was connecting to a young girl spewing profanity and planning sexual liasons with a 14 year old girl, he was told by Facebook that he could not shut down his son's site because he was 13, and an "authorized account holder".

  • Honesty in Reporting
Many news organizations, as well as a large number of websites that comment on news events should be required to give a more honest look at the news, instead of just forwarding their own agendas.

  • Stop guns now!
Americans died seeing Batman. I really really don't want to hear any garbage about having more guns in the theatre. Ask any cop about having guns in the hands of amateurs. Guns kill people. I do not want to hear about the lives that were lost. We hear about them every time this happens. Oh, so that you know, I have a 9mm Glock and a shotgun. I never ever want to take them to movies. Ever. I am an amateur.

  • Ban Assault Weapons!
Like most Americans, I am devastated by the Aurora, Colorado shootings. Such mass violence has become a facet of American life, and we must urge our legislators to be our advocates in the movement to reinstate the Assault Weapon Ban.

  • Voter ID laws will supress black vote
African Americans must have a photo ID to vote. When I was living in Florida in 2000 and 2004 African Americans were told their poling place was closed, and they were turned away. So much for photo ID! iD

  • Gun Control Now
We need commonsense gun control now, including the following: * Ban civilian ownership of weapons designed for warfare, including assault weapons. * Close the gun show loophole. * Limit high capacity ammunition magazines. * Create certificates of ownership for firearms, similar to automobiles, which should be governed by similar regulations, including the need for training, testing, and insurance. I'm a MoveOn member. I'm a gun owner. I'm a Christian. I'm a Grammy-winning country music producer. And I'm asking us to come together, in the wake of one of the deadliest mass shootings in modern U.S. history, and stand up to the NRA by calling for an end to senseless gun violence. El Paso. Dayton. Gilroy. Santa Fe, TX. Parkland. Sutherland Springs. Las Vegas. Sandy Hook. Columbine. Aurora. Virginia Tech. How many more innocent victims must die at the hands of an antiquated and oft-misinterpreted amendment? Enough. It's time to say that thoughts and prayers are no longer enough in the face of gun-related tragedies. We need meaningful action. Gun control doesn't mean no guns. I'm a gun owner, and I'm not suggesting that we take guns away. I'm suggesting that we put tighter controls on acquiring and owning them. We must ban assault weapons and all weapons of war. We simply cannot fast track the use of silencers or allow public access to armor-piercing ammunition. Gun show loopholes must be stopped. Ammunition should not be sold online. Mandatory wait periods should be enforced, during which time a thorough background check, psychological and medical evaluation, and character references should be completed. More accountability should be placed in the hands of retailers. When patrons refuse wait periods, authorities should be notified. Training and testing should be mandatory, as should a renewal process that includes many of the above-mentioned evaluation terms. I would hope that we could all agree to submit ourselves to these terms. Currently, it's easier to go to a gun show and pick up a firearm than it is to go to the local pharmacy and buy cold medication. Acquiring and owning a gun should be at least as controlled as getting a license to drive a car. Gun control alone is not the whole of the solution, but it's a start. And if it saves one sweet life, it's worth it.

  • FORECLOSURE MORATORIUM NOW
Housing drives the U.S. economy. That is not happening now, and will not happen as long as the foreclosure crisis is permitted to continue. Milions of Americans have lost their homes through foreclosure; a substantial number of which were fraudulent. Millions more face the same fate this year and beyond. Millions of foreclosed upon homes have been dumped on the market (by the banks) resulting in a depressed real estate market and billions of dollars in lost equity by home owners who are current on their loans. What is lost midst all the statistics and issues are the children; thousands of innocent children who are now homeless and frightened. It is a national disgrace. Banks and other lenders destroyed our economy and caused the housing crisis; they will not fix it. Every American homeowner is affected and needs relief from this disasterous situation. Please support this movement to end the crisis. Please sign this petition urging President Obama to declare a three year nation-wide moratorium on foreclosures and on the re-sale of foreclosed upon homes. The moratorium will force lenders to resolve the issues with homeowners on a case-by-case basis. The moratorium will have an immediate effect on the economy by replacing the current atmosphere of fear and anxiety with one of hope and optimism. Please support this effort; we need 10,000 signatures by July 31st. Please forward this message to everyone you know. Please sign this petition to President Barack Obama

  • *Deficit Reduction Congressional Reform Act of 2012*
    1. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office. 2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose. 3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do. 4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%. 5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people. 6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people. 7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/12. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen.

  • Public Press Restoration of Equal Time for Political Opinions
The "equal time" requirement for the press and public airwaves reporting on political opinion was taken out, very quietly, by congress during the Reagan years. It has allowed the dramatic increase in "hate politics" without any refutation, that is undermining American democracy. This petition calls upon Congress to restore a much needed means of civility.

  • RIDE BACK: A Petition to Make NYC More Bike-Friendly
Bicycling is considered to be a major mode of transportation by many in New York City. Yet, the local government has failed to keep cyclists safe and continues to equate bikes with motor vehicles. We believe it is the best interest not only of cyclists but of drivers and the city itself to advocate for more protected bicycle lanes as well as stricter laws regarding bicycle-related accidents.
