• Senator Casey, Keep Social Security Secure
There is a move in legislator to cut SS in order to balance the budget. Average SS benefit is $1200/month. Mine is less. For many seniors, it is their only income. Senator Casey (PA-D) claims to support SS., but refuses to sign a letter written by his colleague (Senator Sanders (VT-I)) which would indicate where he really stands on the issue.

  • End the Adderall shortage
Millions of children and adults rely on Adderall, Ritalin, and related medicines to treat their ADD and ADHD, but a severe, year-long shortage has made these pharmaceuticals extremely hard to find legally. The shortage is a result of inter-agency squabbling between the FDA, which has included these drugs on its list of official pharmaceutical shortages, and the Drug Enforcement Agency, which limits how much of the active ingredient in these drugs manufacturers are allowed to make. Manufacturers and the FDA say the DEA quotas are preventing them from meeting market demand. The DEA accuses manufacturers of using their quotas to produce more expensive alternatives instead of less expensive versions people can afford. We call on President Obama and the other officials named on this petition to meet immediately to resolve the ridiculous inter-agency bickering that is preventing people from obtaining medical care. End the Adderal shortage NOW!

  • Fair Debt Collection Practises Act needs to apply to ALL creditors not just 3rd party collection ...
I recently discovered that the Fair Debt Collection Practises Act only applies to 3rd party collection companies and not to original creditors. This means that collection departments for original creditors can resort to any collection practices they desire and the consumer has no legal recourse to stop harassment, intimidation or deception. Regardless of who makes a collection call, original creditor or 3rd party collection agency no one should be able to phone a consumer about a debt before 8 AM or after 9 PM. I've been woken before 5 AM and after 10 PM by collection calls from a creditor. Likewise no one should be allowed to phone constantly regarding a debt. I've had a creditor phone almost hourly even after I've made an agreement to pay by a specific date; and although I had a history of keeping my payment promises with them. Their expressed reason for not stopping these harassing phone calls was because I refused to give them a post-dated check for the agreed payment arrangement. According to my bank post-dated checks are illegal and if a post-dated check is submitted early it will be processed immediately by the bank and not held until the date on the check. This happened to me once and resulted in huge overdraft fees, so I don't wish to experience that again. My problems with harrassing debt collection practises began after a job loss due to disabilies affecting my job performance, long term unemployment and a three year wait for approval of my social security disability benefits that caused me to experience severe financial hardship. (I worked hard all my life and paid into SS for nearly 30 years.) I got behind two payments on my car loan. Although I was able to catch up one month and continued to make monthly payments thereafter, I remained 30 days behind, and this triggered the creditor's automated debt collection processes.

Three of the richest counties in Pennsylvania have voted to ban Marcellus Shale drilling in their counties. The rest of us are having it shoved down our throats. My ancestors were farmers here in Southwestern PA, which is under seige by these drillers and now the countryside in covered with water buffaloes for private homes drinking water. I and my family all live in Southwestern PA and need clean water too Help Us!

  • Dignity Rights: Saving Face by Saving Faces
Recently a woman in China was in the news because huge cancerous growths were growing on her face. She is a poor woman and the new politics of selfishness in China means she is unable to receive treatment as she would have when the country provided its citizens with health care. She is disfigured, lonely, jeered at and called a monster because of how she looks. Her response: I am not a monster, I am a mother, and I am ill. We as a collective world can certainly raise enough funds for our sister's operation. I am appealing to whoever knows how to do this to step forward: sign the petition that we can, in fact, do this. Then help continue the process of raising the necessary money. I will contribute, of course, and know in my heart that others will be glad to do so, too.

  • Police Officer should be fired for leaving service dog in car
A Tucson, Arizona, police officer, Korey Lankow, left his drug sniffing dog named Jeg in his police car for over an hour in 98 degree heat. The dog had to be euthanized the next day as the dog's organs were shutting down. http://azstarnet.com/news/local/drug-sniffing-dog-left-in-dps-patrol-car-is-euthanized/article_64255c13-7743-55c0-a783-5f05cb58663c.html

  • END GUN VIOLENCE PERMANENTLY
Illegal weapons so readily available to urban kids to kill each other. The cavalier attitude in which we accept these tragedies is shameful. How no one seems to really care. Certain individuals get upset briefly and then things are back to normal. My son was murdered last year. If the laws would change to at least 20 years if you are caught with an illegal weapon ( no deals or negotiations) the climate of this violence would change. They would seriously take a look at picking up a weapon knowing what could happen. I know the IRA would block this every way they could. Does no one have the guts to stand up to them.

  • STOP the use of chloramine in The Tulsa Area Water!
The TMUA, a board composed of the mayor and 6 unelected people have ignored the recommendations that the nationally renowned water expert, Bob Bowcock presented to Tulsa for a SAFE, effective and affordable option for Tulsa to meet the new EPA water guidelines. The TMUA chose to use chloramine instead, in spite of public outcry and new information about the dangers of chloramine. While the TMUA assures us that chlroamine is safe, it is known to damage health and property. Current research is showing that the unregulated byproducts of chlroamine damages DNA, cells, is carcinogenic and has multiple adverse health affects. It is know to leach lead into the water. Chloramine cannot be boiled out, distilled out or evaporated out and filters like reverse osmosis won't remove it!
