• Adult Care Homes/Institute of Mental Disease
People living with mental illness don't typically make the most popular list but in North Carolina THOUSANDS of these individuals who currently have housing and security and are about to loose all of it. North Carolina in an effort to respond to concerns regarding the safety of our aging population living in Adult Care Homes reacted without prior consideration of the consequences. Beginning last month, the first of many Adult Care Homes across this state were given a determination of "Institute of Mental Disease" & stripped of the ability to get paid if 50% their residential population had a primary mental health diagnosis. The result is thousands of individuals with mental illness across NC will be put out on the street over the next several months. In addition, as these people need assistance with medications and behavioral health management, they will be using the hospitals, emergency departments, and/or ending up our overcrowded jail system.

  • Non-Voter Contribution Ban
Why is any person, corporation, or even foreign government, without a right to vote in a given election, allowed to contribute even one cent to try to affect that election's outcome? A resident of one state is not allowed to vote in another state's election, and so should not be allowed to make contributions. A corporation is not entitled to a vote; every individual employee and stockholder may have the right to vote in a given election, and the choice of whom to support is theirs, not their boss's.

  • Outsource Arizona Governor Job with a Professional
Arizona Governor, Jan Brewer, feels that most Arizona state jobs can be better performed by "professional" employees working for private companies. Many state employees have been put out of work by the outsourcing of state jobs, particularly health services positions in the Department of Corrections. To that extent, we feel that the people of the State of Arizona would be better served by a professional manager from outside of Arizona running the State.

  • Extend The Renewable Energy Production Tax Credit For Ten Years
Tell Congress to stop with the financial yo-yo effect in the renewable energy industry, and give clean energy suppliers a predictable tax regulation environment for the next decade. The federal PTC is the biggest factor in renewable energy development, and its impending expiration and year-by-year on-off nature us causing boim and bust cycles in the entire industry. This could mean the difference between a domestic manufacturing base, or more foreign imports.

  • Hey Walmart... Bring back the "Made In USA" Campaign
In the early stages of the company, a rising entrepreneur, Sam Walton, began a company which proudly touted products with the “Made In the USA” logo. As a child I can remember some pride in knowing I was helping the U.S. economy while shopping for lower prices. Lower prices were just a happy by-product. Fast forward 25 years later, and “Made in the USA” is nowhere to be seen and is definitely not a selling point. Keep in mind that we as Americans have always been an inventive people, but we won WWI and WWII because as a nation we were able to draw upon a manufacturing sector second to none. What if we needed to enter WWI with the state of our current manufacturing sector? Imagine. Today, our manufacturing sector is suffering due to the outsourcing of manufacturing jobs and from a lack of proper tariffs to protect our workers. The bottom line outweighs the moral necessity to help others. As an Arkansan, nothing would make me happier than to see our greatest success story step up and reengage the workers of this country. Stop allowing the expenditures by the 99% of the USA, the ones who need to save the most, also be the leading contributor to bleeding our manufacturing sector simply because they need the low prices the most. Let's make America a manufacturing power-house again. Only one company has the power on its own to actually sbring about change, as it did during its inception when Sam was at the helm.

  • unemployment/family stress
Most families are stressed due to overwork for people that have jobs. Stressed due to lack of job opportunities, and overburdened due to the lack of time available to be with their families. A shorter work week would solve many of these problems. Allowing parents to share child care and spend more quality time with each other. As a single parent, a shorter work week (with the same pay of course) would have gone a long way to reducing stress and improving family interactions. In addition, a shorter work week would help solve the unemployment problem. It is time that the American Government make an investment in the American People.

  • Overturn Citizens United through a Constitutional Amendment
All (real) citizens of the USA are disempowered by the new, overwhelming cash advantage of large corporate and wealthy donors to political campaigns. That advantage allows fear and misinformation to be used to subvert the true will of the people!

  • Civil rights or prisons?
The privatization of prisons by the state. Prison is dehumanizing it cripples the human mind and body and its effects remain for a lifetime. For those that don't go insane or become emotional sterile, meaning "institutionalized". Life after returning to their families or community is never the same, many are mentally incapacitated from the effects of what they have had to endure or see done to others to survive. For many it is the same a surviving a war. Only to come back into a society that further dehumanizes them by not recognizing their right to vote or feed their families by having a job, which ultimately destroyes the family unit. Many of the companies lobbying the government are guaranting a 90% full capacity rate within the prisons..this means eventually someone you love or know will be imprisoned because to accomplish this rate more laws will need to be made to undermine your civil rights as free Americans!!! to embroil you into the criminal justice system and once there, there you will remain, trapped in a system that cares little for you as a individual or a human. And, the true problem is that you never quit paying and never does your family. For those that do make it back sane to their families, since they have received no true rehabilatation( you must fit a criteria and a waiting list) many come back home with only the survival skills of a prison life. We must and can do better than this!!!
