Voters in Summit County can expect long lines, confusion about times, and where they can vote during the upcoming early voting period for the 2012 election. That’s because the Summit County Board of Elections is deadlocked on extending hours for early voting and choosing an early voting location that is accessible and convenient for voters. It doesn’t have to be this way though. The Board of Elections can vote again and if one of the Republican members switches their vote, Summit County voters will have more flexibility and accessibility making early voting easy and convenient.

After admitting that the foreign manufacturers and assemblers contracted to make its devices engage in inhumane labor practices, Apple has done little to definitively address the problem. Granted, such inaction may have to do with the limited influence Apple has over the labor policies of its contractors and the regulatory regimes of foreign countries. However, this is no excuse for Apple's continued use of what effectively amounts to slave labor to make iPhones, iPads and other gadgets, especially as millions remain jobless in the United States, whose consumer market is largely responsible for making Apple so successful. We are calling upon CEO Tim Cook to make good on his promise to address Apple's labor problems - and reinvest in the consumers of its products - by bringing those jobs back the United States, where labor protections and industry regulations will prevent the ongoing abuse that is rampant in overseas labor markets.

Let's make this a fair election season by getting the candidates to agree to play fair: both will agree to spend the same amount of money on their campaigns.

These prices are killing the economy and are, for all practical purposes, a tax being paid to Big Oil, primarily by the poor and middle class, two groups who can least afford it during these hard times. Commodity market speculation is a major component of these sky high prices that can and should be regulated!!!

IT IS TIME THAT OUR GOVERNMENT MAKE IT A PRIORITY TO PROTECT THE SHRINKING, IRREPLACEABLE NATURAL RESOURCES THAT THE WORLD HAS LEFT. The Panamanian President Ricardo Martinelli has violated their own constitution by giving a concession to Inmet Mining Corporation, a Canadian mining company is trying to exploit large deposits of gold and copper located in Cobre, Panama. This large open-pit copper development project concession is located 120 kilometres west of Panama City and 20 kilometres from the Caribbean Sea coast, in the district of Donoso, Colon province, in the Republic of Panama. The concession consists of four zones totalling 13,600 hectares in the middle of the the Ngäbe-Buglé Comarca, the Reserva Forestal Fortuna and the Bosque Protector Palo Seco, some of the most pristine protected rainforests containing large amounts of the world's biological species. The indigenous peoples of these areas are ready to die to protect their lands, people and way of life from these greedy companies that only care about profiting from these resources. It is time a much greater voice is heard to stop this exploitation from taking from the world that which money can never replace, the beauty and awe of the natural world for our future children. President Martinelli, stop this mistake before it is too late.

If it weren’t for the extensive text-message record it would have been the perfect Kansas City shuffle. Democrat Rep. Roy Schmidt plotted with Republican House Speaker Jase Bolger to switch parties a moment before the filing deadline and outsource the competition to a candidate of their choosing: his son’s friend. In effect, robbing Michigan’s 76th District of their voice. Bill Forsyth, the Republican prosecutor, wrote that the ploy “was clearly intended to undermine the election and to perpetrate a ‘fraud’ on the electorate.” Adding insult to injury, he declared, “As a Republican elected official, I am embarrassed and offended by what transpired.” And so is the rest of the Michigan. Not content to stop there, the prosecutor added: “Incredibly, while it would be illegal to pay a boxer to take a ‘dive,’ or a basketball player to ‘point-shave,’ it is not currently a crime in Michigan to recruit someone to run for public office, place them on the ballot at the ‘eleventh hour' and essentially pay them to make no effort to win." Sign our petition calling on Jase Bolger to resign as Speaker of the House. Bolger and Schmidt have managed to avoid criminal charges so far, but we can’t let them get away with this clear betrayal of the public trust.
