• Tell congressional Democrats to say no to NRA blackmail
The NRA is trying to blackmail democrats into voting that Eric holder be held in contempt of congress. The truth is the NRA will not get them elected next term anyways, because the Citizens United ruling now guarantees that Republicans will be having each seat that comes up for election bought for them. the days of NRA money helping a Democrat get elected are over. We the people will also be scoring this vote, and any Democrat that votes for contempt, will be held in contempt themselves, and will get no help , or votes from " we the people " ever again.

  • Commit to comfort your child and never let them "Cry It Out"
If you were allowed to cry it out, or currently practice this approach with babies or toddlers, this petition may touch a nerve. Children learn to sooth themselves by being soothed by a parent or care giver. That is how children learn. They do not learn to soothe themselves by crying alone with no holding or comforting. Effects of not soothing a child are that brain cells die (brain damage!), self regulation is actually undermined/child goes into despair at being abandoned, the stress response may be established for life and cause long term health problems and ADHD, trust is lost with a parent, and the sensitivity of the caregiver may be harmed (Narvaez, 2011). For more information on the history of Cry It Out, its effects, and solutions, go to http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/moral-landscapes/201112/dangers-crying-it-out? On page two there are a lot of suggestions for further reading.

  • Let's Cut Tuition Cost
With the recent projected increase of tuition at Mississippi's colleges and universities, many students may not be able to afford to receive an education. Every person should be able to go to college. Governor Bryant has a chance to change this.

  • Congress should work, at least, a 2080 hour workyear in their chamber.
Most American workers are required to work at least 2080 hours a year - an average of 40 hours a week. Our Congress seems to "work" when they want to; or rather, they seem to not work a lot of the time. They've been telling us that they want to help job creators. Go to work and do that. Vote on legislation that's presented and let the majority rule. Stop the foolishness that's going on.

  • Defang The NRA
The National Rifle Association is the most powerful political group in America. In actuality the NRA is functioning as the fourth estate of America's government; and it thereby has demonstrated that it has the political power to shape any legislation or regulation that it chooses completely independent of the wishes of the majority of American voters.

  • Make Voting Mandatory
On average around 60% of the people who can vote actually exercise this right. That means on average, Presidents and senator's are elected with just over 30% of the voting populace. The majority of the people who vote are polarized to one party or another and the majority of the people who are in the middle don't bother. In order for Democracy to truly work requires the participation of the people as a whole.

  • You Can't Buy My Vote
Update: This petition has passed the 50-vote threshold, and SignOn has contacted me about helping to publicize it. It has gotten this far because of you folks, and I thank you deeply. You are pioneers, and if this does what I hope, I will acknowledge and credit you, if you want. The flood of corporate spending on election campaigns threatens to drown American democracy. The terrible Citizens United Supreme Court decision, recently upheld, is turning elections into auctions, but what if enough people pledged not to watch the corporate-funded advertising? The big spenders would be wasting their money! Broadcasters monitor how many viewers watch these ads. If they find the people are deliberately turning them off, and report this to the ad buyers, it will discourage attempts to buy elections. The results of this petition will be sent to the Koch Brothers, ALEC, Karl Rove, and others. I do not want to live in an America dominated by a new corporate feudalism, with a struggling 99% and an uber-rich 1%. I am hoping that MoveOn picks up this campaign.

  • Cease animal cruelty in worldwide fur industry!
Cruelly enough, many fur companies around the world inflict despicably ruthless abuse on the precious animals they ensnare, for the sole purpose of making a nice, steady income from the animals' fur. A majority of these animals are in fact skinned alive in abusive, extremely inhumane fur factories. Needless to say, workers in these factories entirely lack respect, compassion and wisdom for other living beings such as these dear creatures. One could also state that such people lack minds and hearts, as well! In short, the fur industry is receiving great profits from ruthlessly skinning animals alive. Does this sound pleasant or fair to you? The stunningly beautiful pelts of other animals deserve to remain on these glorious creatures, not stripped off and then sold by greedy fur industries. Please sign this petition to hopefully cease the hideous fur industry once and for all!
