  • Governor, New York: Lower the drinking age in New York State from 21 to 18.
Each year, over 40,000 people in the United States die because of binge drinking. For many, this begins in college, drinking to excess because they don't know their limits. If the drinking age was lower, young people would develop a healthier relationship with alcohol and know not to abuse it once they have the right to actually drink. If 18-year-olds can die fighting for their country, vote and go to prison, they should be able to drink.

  • SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE
The separation of Church and State in the U.S. is in jeopardy now that the churches are instructing their memberships how to vote and the members are following. If the Churches continue to use their patrons to influence political matters in this country, then they should no longer enjoy freedom from taxation. This tax would improve the economy substantially and force the churches to put their money where their mouths are.

  • Publically Funded Elections
Unfair campaign contributions have created a shift away from The People's Government to The Corporation's Government. This kind of spending on campaigns is obsolete. We must not allow money to corrupt members of Congress. All members must spend the same amount on their campaigns. Only then will we have a level playing field.

  • UCLA Masters in Science Program in Nutrition
Nutritional science is a growing interest among young health professionals. Most professional graduate programs are crowded with academic requirements and leave little room for the study of nutrition. While many programs include short courses in nutrition, nutrition is emerging as a complex subject that requires more instruction time. In order to provide a strong base in nutrition, a full year of focused study has been found to be effective. The Institute of Human Nutrition in the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University is the pioneer in providing this educational opportunity. The demand for Columbia’s Master of Science Program is growing with over double the graduates (80) this year compared to thirty years ago. The proposal for a Masters in Science Program in Nutrition will provide the opportunity to focus on the subject of nutrition over the course of a year to prepare the next generation of health professionals to effectively promote health and wellness through optimal nutrition, physical activity and emotional wellbeing. The proposed Masters of Science in Nutrition would be a 12-month program that provides the foundation in Nutritional Science that will lead graduates to careers in Medicine, Public Health, Policy, Research or Academics. A multidisciplinary team of UCLA Professors would teach the Master students. This program would take advantage of the large resource pool of talented UCLA professors who focus on nutrition and provide a cadre of self identified graduate students to participate in the Nexus Initiative. Other educational opportunities could be a Master in Science for Health Professionals, a PhD in Nutrition or a MD/PhD.

  • Law to subsidize equal time for rebuttal
Mega money in U.S. politics is drowning out the voices of those who can't afford to compete on the same monetary level, so inevitably the message funded by rich is the only message that gets heard. We're proposing a law that would require anyone who bought time to air a political attack ad in markets with limited access, i.e. TV networks & local stations (cable or broadcast), radio stations, or paid to publish a political ad in a newspaper or magazine, would be required to pay for equal time in the same media for a rebuttal to that political attack ad, answered by the individual or party the ad attacks. This would not be a limit to free speech, this would be a balanced expansion of free speech to allow both sides to be heard.

  • We want Channel 7 News San Francisco Back
In 2011 residents of Santa Cruz, San Benito and Monterey Counties lost the ability to watch local San Francisco Channel 7 as our ABC station. Now we only have 2 choices for (semi) local news: KSBW and KION. Most people in the viewing areas identify themselves as being part of the Bay Area and NOT of Salinas. We want Channel 7 San Francisco News back NOW. If we were to get Channel 7 News back then viewers would really have a choice in news.
