Nutritional science is a growing interest among young health professionals. Most professional graduate programs are crowded with academic requirements and leave little room for the study of nutrition. While many programs include short courses in nutrition, nutrition is emerging as a complex subject that requires more instruction time. In order to provide a strong base in nutrition, a full year of focused study has been found to be effective. The Institute of Human Nutrition in the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University is the pioneer in providing this educational opportunity. The demand for Columbia’s Master of Science Program is growing with over double the graduates (80) this year compared to thirty years ago. The proposal for a Masters in Science Program in Nutrition will provide the opportunity to focus on the subject of nutrition over the course of a year to prepare the next generation of health professionals to effectively promote health and wellness through optimal nutrition, physical activity and emotional wellbeing. The proposed Masters of Science in Nutrition would be a 12-month program that provides the foundation in Nutritional Science that will lead graduates to careers in Medicine, Public Health, Policy, Research or Academics. A multidisciplinary team of UCLA Professors would teach the Master students. This program would take advantage of the large resource pool of talented UCLA professors who focus on nutrition and provide a cadre of self identified graduate students to participate in the Nexus Initiative. Other educational opportunities could be a Master in Science for Health Professionals, a PhD in Nutrition or a MD/PhD.

My son Brayden has autism. Child care centers keep denying him care because they cannot handle him or know how to deal with autism. I want there to be a law to protect children with autism. All child care providers should be required to take a course on caring for autistic children.

A thousand people die everyday in the US waiting for an Organ. Yet a cure exists, and has existed since at least 2006 and is being kept from the people who need it most; these deaths ruin lives, tear families apart, bankrupt our middle and lower classes and significantly increase spending out of our programs like Social Security and Medicare. All of which is unnecessary.

The credit rating of millions of Americans has been destroyed by the ongoing economic crisis. In most cases, a poor credit rating is the direct result of unemployment, home foreclosure, or other devastating financial setbacks beyond our control. Now employers use those credit ratings to refuse us employment. How can we recover if we can’t work? Make it against the law to use credit ratings as the basis for not hiring any person. A few missed payments or even a foreclosure has nothing to do with our abilities and skills. Give us the chance to restore our credit and America’s economy.

The candidates are not debating the authentic long term issues which will influence the opportunities and life quality of every American family: U.S. worldwide economic competition, nuclear proliferation, pollution, education and foreign relations. Our foreign relations are decaying, our educational competitiveness is declining, air and water quality are under attack and absolute crazy men are getting control of weapons that could snuff out all human, animal and plant life on earth.

Stop career politicians; Congress pays into social security.

We need to put pressure on President Obama to go to Wisconsin, along with sending the Vice President to help his party on the ground in Wisconsin to secure this very important election, the removal of Governor Walker.The momentum that can be gained should not be lost due to a lack of effort at the national level. Now the time to come together.

President Obama is inviting Monsanto to oversee Africa’s food security. Monsanto's primary goal is not anybody’s food security but their own bottom line. Monsanto grabs millions of acres of land for monoculture plantations that destroy local biodiversity. Monsanto develops the terminator seeds that hold farmers hostage to the seed patent rights of corporations. Monsanto is the inventor of chemical fertilizers that worsen climate change and have threatened the health of millions of people around the globe.
