• Public Education
To make America succeed, everyone should be afforded a basic education, not just free but mandatory. Public Schools free and open to all should be available to all between the ages of 5 and 15. For-profit school corporations should not be paid for with public funds and should never compete with public education. Public funding should go to benefit all Americans and NEVER go to a system that benefits only a segment of Americans per the 14th Amendment.

  • Congressional Term Limits
Positions in Congress were never intended to be a lifetime occupation. Elected officials should spend all their time working on the peoples government. Re-election should be based on their performance not donations.

  • Honor Status in Kentucky Prisons
Kentucky's prisons are full and costing taxpayers an enormous amount of money. One of the ways of rehabilitating inmates and improving the rates of successful transition from inmate to productive citizen is good programs within the prison. The Night Visit Program is a special incentive program designed to promote positive behavior and strengthen social ties. The program allows for participation by Honor Dormitory, Firehouse, and any inmate meeting the criteria for honor housing. The visits are in the visiting area from 6:30 to 8:30 on Fridays. These visits have been ended at Kentucky State Reformatory.

  • Save the old Waldo-Hancock Bridge.
This historic award winning structure can be preserved as a pedestrian-bicycle crossing (new bridge doesn't have one and millions of dollars are proposed to add such) Cost to remove it, millions. Logic, history, esthetics and Yankee values argues for it's preservation for future generations and a safety backup for crossing the Penobscot.

  • Implement Simpson-Bowles now
Gridlock in our nation's capital is strangling our ability to formulate and implement the needed reforms to our economy that will allow us to climb out of this financial and fiscal hole we've dug for ourselves. The complicated nature of our problems allow special interests to obfuscate and resist changes. I offer a simple solution we can all get behind. It is generally agreed that the Simpson-Bowles solution, while containing hard to swallow pieces for both sides, would be a healthy step forward for our country. It is a balanced approach that would at least set us on the path toward reducing our deficit, and provide some much needed tax reform, that, in turn, would encourage businesses to feel more secure and start investing and hiring again. Let's simply implement it. The politicians won't or can't. The question at this point is: do We the People really have any power left? Lets test it. If we get 2 million signatures to this petition, they'll have to take notice. Can we do it? I think we can, if we stand together.

  • President Obama - Bring victory to Wisconsin with your presence.
President Obama and Vice President Biden are our champions. If they do not have the courage to stand with Wisconsin Democrats for all to see, will progressive groups have the desire to come out to vote for them in November.

  • Return Local Power to Schools
The biggest problems facing public school students are the underfunded mandates of government agencies, big business profiteering, ill-guided commissions, and politicians all looking to line their pockets and build their resume's. Parents, school children, educators and local school boards know better how to prepare and support their local kids, and it's not with endless testing and cheap, disrespected teachers. Return their power of self governance and funding. Stop selling their futures to publishing giants, data-miners and "charter schools".

  • Precious Water Not "Precious Metals"
The purpose of this petition is to stop, before it begins, sulfide mining in northern Minnesota. The rock formations containing MN's copper and nickel minerals also contain sulfur compounds. When millions of tons of this rock are exposed to water and air through mining, sulfuric acid is formed creating Acid Mine Drainage and leaching metals into ground and surface water. Superfund sites from sulfide mining require billions of dollars in clean-up costs. The jobs created by mining are few compared to the ones provided by the year round tourism that supports northeastern Minnesota. This pristine environment enjoyed by millions year round must be protected. Mining companies make many promises but they cannot guaranty accident free worksites.

  • Abolition of Assault Weapons
The purpose of this petition is to urge Congress to ban assault weapons in the United States except for law enforcement and the military. It is the intent of this petition to reduce the level of violence in our society and to prevent future mass killings of the kind we saw in Tuscon, at Virginia Tech, and at Columbine High School. No law abiding citizen, including hunters and sportsmen, need to possess "weapons of war" capable of firing dozens of rounds of ammunition in a matter of seconds.
