• Stop debt collectors from feeding like sharks on California's working poor.
Protect California's working poor from Big Business Debt collectors. Debt collectors are moving into California - where they are not required to be licensed - and feeding like sharks on California's working poor. Governor Brown needs to stop this feeding frenzy. These big collection businesses buy up huge chunks of debt, then pay attorneys to write letters demanding payment. When people cannot pay or do not respond (many don't know what to do), the collectors file a law suit, which costs hundreds of dollars to fight. How can these impoverished people pay? The end result is often big buck judgements, based on inflated interest and other charges, that are extracted (garnished) from the paychecks of the working poor. California, which allows creditors to pursue a credit card debt for 3 years, most states are 2 years, has become a feeding grounds for many unscrupulous collectors, some kicked out of other states, who prey on poor people who do not know their rights. We need for our Governor, Jerry Brown, to require all debt collectors to be licensed, then watch-dog them for unlawful tactics, including attempting to collect on debts that are past the current state statute of limitations. We also need for our Governor to reduce California's debt validity statute of limitations from three to two years and stop California from becoming a debt collectors feeding ground. Californians who have fallen on hard times, sometimes barely "getting by", are being victimized and saddled with crippling legal judgements because they don't have the money or support to fight back. Sign now and send a strong message to Governor Brown: First: Require all debt collectors to pay to be licensed by the state of California and adhere to lawful practices under penalty of state enforced severe fine and/or license revocation. Second: Reduce the state mandated window of debt collection from three years to two. Third:

  • Save Full-Day Kindergarten
We, the residents of the Three Village Central School District, are asking the Three Village Board of Education to stop the proposed cuts to our full-day kindergarten program and keep the current program intact for the 2012-2013 school year. We would like to voice our support of the Three Village full-day Kindergarten Program, and ask that you do not cut or reduce this valuable program in the revised 2.99% budget. There has never been a greater urgency in America to have all students academically succeed in our K-12 schools, along with in our universities and colleges. Competition from around the world has put our nation’s standing in the economic world at risk. There is a plethora of research which demonstrates that children who attend full-day kindergarten show greater reading and mathematics achievement gains than those who attend half-day or no kindergarten at all (NEA, 2008 pg. 1). Longitudinal data has also demonstrated that full-time kindergarten also has demonstrated long-term educational gains for students in all demographic groups, including low-income and minority students (NEA, 2008 pg.1). This is a program that benefits all incoming and future incoming kindergarten students; the elimination or reduction of this vital program will have an adverse effect on a large number of Three Village families and students, as well as the future home values of all Three Village residents.

  • Justices Service Limit
Justices serve in the Supreme Court for life. I think this should be change to serve for a maximum of 10 years, on which the President, would elect another justice. I think this will create a more balanced Justice system, and stop the abuses from those judges, that are not for the service of the people.

  • STOP PRIVATIZATION OF WATER
My petition is to heighten the awareness of the problems of Water privatization and the need to act stop and or prevent it before whole communities are being displace as is happening in other parts of the world. It is important to sign this petition because most Americans cannot afford to buy their water from large corporations. In other parts of the world whole communities have been deprived of their own natural water resource, being told that privatization of water is a cleaner, more efficient method of delivery. Unfortunately, this is often not the case, while the Corporations co-opt their water resources.

  • President Obama, End Drone Warfare Now!
The President says he is using drone warfare to save American lives. He is actually making the country less safe. Our government is using our tax money to kill people by remote control. The government says everyone we kill with drone warfare is an enemy combatant but we are actually killing innocent men, women, and children too. These actions are breeding hate for our country and creating terrorists. As our elected officials debate how much to cut social spending in this country our government is wasting half of discretionary spending on illegal warfare that is ruining our reputation and putting our lives in jeopardy the world over.

  • I Pledge to Help My Patients and Their Families Live Healthier Lives
Four health behaviors - tobacco use, alcohol use, unhealthy eating and lack of physical activity - contribute to the majority of all chronic diseases such as diabetes, emphysema, high blood pressure and joint pain. Physicians can help their patients by talking with them at every visit about how to improve their health by quitting smoking, eliminating high risk alcohol consumption, eating healthier foods and being more physically active. The AMA is asking physicians to declare their public support for counseling every patient to prevent chronic diseases and improve health outcomes.
