  • MAIN TAGLINE OF SAVE ORPHANS AND DISABLED AFRICAN CHILDREN
Our tagline at SODAC is "off the streets and on their feet." Our goal is to provide street children and vulnerable children with rehabilitation, support and resettlement services. Right now our activities are primarily in Kampala, Uganda. We have a home and center where children from all over the slums come and participate in our activities and have a chance to enjoy life as a child. Our activities include educating them, giving the shelter, teaching them how to sing dance, acrobatics and other activities that we can participate in as a family and across African Countries. Currently there are 16 boys who live and sleep in the home. There are more than 50 other children who come from the streets and slums that we help. These are children who lives on the streets with no one to take care of them and with no one to cater for his/her welfare, such children are abandoned, rejected and neglected and society considers him/her as a detriment to the community or dangerous to society. Such children might be victims of war, natural disaster, and domestic violence, parents died of HIV/AIDS or absolute poverty in the family.

  • Friends of Valdez
I am signing this pledge as a statement of support for Valdez Elementary. Valdez Elementary is a dual language elementary school in Denver, CO. Valdez Elementary is in desparate need of a building remodel due to some significate building issues (lack of ADA compliances, small and inadequate spaces, open design classrooms, etc). Valdez has completed a DPS master plan design process and now deserves to be included in the 2012 Denver Bond. I support this cause.

  • Support Yellow Arahama (黃色手帕大作戰)
Dear all, I am writing to ask for your attention to a call from Japan regarding post-earthquake reconstruction in in Arahama, Sendai. The large-scale forced-relocation planned after 311 earthquake in Japan is problematic in many ways. Professor Yasuhiro Endoh(延藤安弘)) and his students are organizing actions to help local community express their opposition to the government-led relocation. Using "yellow handkerchief" as symbol, they are now trying to engage more international friends to support their action. In this coming weekend (18 Feb), Professor Ando and his team are going to introduce this action in a forum organized by Professor Hsia and his students at NTU in Taipei. They are hoping that a widening coverage of the action could be transferred back to Japan to pressure on Japanese government. Just like what we did for Choi Yuen Village in Hong Kong, Pacific Rim Community Design Network can support the community by expressing our support publicly by sending out a letter with signatures. If no one against the idea, we will send out an open email in the name of the network and Professor Endoh will read the public letter loud to the press in a press conference before the forum in Taipei this weekend. As follows you can find a draft of the public letter (in English) and official webpage of their action (in Japanese). Please let me know if any question. It would be great if you can show your support with signature by 10:00 on Friday (17 Feb). Thanks!

  • Keep Walmart out of Humboldt
Walmart has no place in Humboldt. - It will destroy our local economy. Studies have shown that within one year sales volumes at local stores will fall on average 14% and by ten years 31%. Many will be forced to close. - With two K-Marts and a target, we already have everything WalMart can offer and more. - Many states and communities will our tax dollars to pay for subsidies to aid WalMart's arrival. This may funding construction and removing trees from Highway 101 to accommodate the imports. - While WalMart may employ a number of Humboldt Co residents, as a company it has refused to support their workers in order to cut their prices lower. WalMart employees are encouraged to drain government resources to fund the working poor and therefore remain a part of the poverty cycle that already exists in Humboldt County. - WalMart is also one of many large corporations that employs slave labor, outsourcing from other countries to produce their products. - The products WalMart produces aren't created to last. Instead they are created to deteriorate quickly, be thrown into our landfills, and repurchased again. - It will put many hard working people and shop owners out of business for the sake of providing cheaper merchandise to our people, many jobs and livelihoods will be lost. There is no benefit here - it will only deteriorate our community. Thank you for signing and doing a small part to keep Humboldt County's economy local and thriving as much as it can.

  • Support Strong Public Education In Virginia
Governor McDonnell's proposed budget, under consideration in the Virginia General Assembly, greatly reduces the state's contribution to Virginia's public schools. While the governor expects counties and cities across Virginia to inflict punishing taxes and fees on teachers and the middle class, Virginia has a corporate income tax rate of 6%, one of the lowest in the country. Adding insult to injury, the goverrnor is proposing to spend millions on school "reform" programs that essentially funnel public money to private schools.

  • The Hannity vs. Maddow Debates
Right or left, the public interest is not being served by today's media. Both sides stand accused of bias and the public is kept in the dark, unable to sort out reality from propaganda. Call out the sham and demand a series of three open, transparent debates before the November elections. Who better to square off than Sean Hannity and Rachel Maddow, each a top pundit on opposing sides of the political spectrum. Your voice demanding head-to-head debate and live vetting will tear down the "Berlin Wall" of partisan media we suffer under.
