• Bring Muslim Fest Goes Green to Los Angeles
The Muslim Fest is a Festival to share and appreciate the muslim culture and arts but now it has been trying to become sustainable. It has partnered with companies that have helped them achieve that goal. Not only are they are becoming sustainable but they are teaching people how to be sustainable such as using reusable bottles. It would be a great opportunity to bring the festival to Los Angeles to help teach others how to be sustainable and appreciate muslim culture.

  • No USDA "Speed Approval" for Monsanto's GMOs!
The USDA wants to fast track approval for Monsanto's genetically modified organisms (GMOs) because Monsanto is losing money during the regular review process. GMOs have not been proven safe for human or animal uses. GMOs should be rigorously tested before being allowed into our global food chain.

  • Fair Taxes For Kansans
Governor Brownback's plan to change the State Income Tax code would decrease the tax rate on taxpayers earning more than $30,000 from 6.45% to 4.9% (1.55% decrease), while lowering the rate on those earning less than $30,000 from 3.5% to 3% (0.5% decrease). Furthermore, Brownback would pay for the tax cuts by eliminating 23 deductions from the state tax code, including the Adoption Credit, the Child Day Care Assistance Credit and the Earned Income Credit. In addition, he would eliminate itemized deductions including the Home Mortgage Deduction, which would adversely affect middle class homeowners. Under Brownback’s plan, taxpayers with adjusted gross incomes of $25,000 or less would actually see an effective increase in their state income taxes. Brownback is continuing an increased sales tax rate of 6.3% (from 5.7%) that would attempt to prevent revenue shortfalls. However, the sales tax and local property taxes, which will necessarily increase to fund services such as public schools, are far more regressive taxes than income taxes, and thus will also be paid by low and middle income Kansans.

  • Officer Lagier, Warm Springs Correctional Center
Officer Sean Lagier is a Correctional Officer at Warm Springs Correctional Center in Carson City, NV. Officer Lagier was a victim of an attack by two inmates on January 31, 2012. The attack was provoked by Officer Lagier because of his intense harrassment of the inmates. Officer Lagier has a record for harrassing the inmates so severely that he was put on probation at one point and has had many grievances against him, yet they are considering bringing him back on duty at Warm Springs. This cannot happen, this man needs to be investigated and action needs to be brought against him, as well as Ms Cynthia Thomas and Warden Smith, who not only knew of the Officer's sadistic behavior, but encouraged it.
