We, the undersigned, demand that the era of high-stakes standardized tests in Pennsylvania must end immediately.

The 2012 Senate Appropriations Bill for the Department of Health and Human Services includes troubling cuts to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Board of health members are responsible for approving local health agency budgets and should be concerned by the continued cuts to public health funding.

High-stakes standardized testing has a negative impact on schools, teachers, and students. Our state has plans to adopt a pay-for-performance model to grade and punish our hard-working teachers. Accountabilty and control of public schools needs to return to local communities. Help save our schools!

Florida legislators and Governor Rick Scott have imposed drug testing on welfare applicants. If drug testing is needed for out of work Floridians, why not for those responsible for the State's multi-billion dolllar budget and the laws which affect all of us?

Our country is at war. Over 6200 young men and women have died in Iraq and Afghanistan and the numbers grow daily. Why then, does the evening news start with a story on Lindsey Lohan? Every newscast and newspaper in this country should devote a moment or space to naming and honoring these young men and women who die everyday. A photo and a sentence. They deserve it. And the people of this country need to see the reality of what is happening.
