Return to Civility & ReasonResidents of the Villas at Hunton Park appreciate that rules and regulations help maintain the safety and beauty of the community. But, we're calling for a restoration of civility and reason in the enforcement of rules that are not codified by the Villas bylaws or County, State, or Federal law. Multiple families have been asked to cease throwing a small ball in the pool because it breaks the no "ball play" rule. The lifeguard has been asked to focus on strict enforcement of rules--even when safety is not a concern. Residents are being reported to the Board for all infractions--even if they are alone in the pool and not causing harm. Pool rules and conduct of the lifeguard should be focused on protecting the health and safety of residents, allowing broad enjoyment of the facility, and protecting the facility from damage. We ask the Board to urgently implement reasonable enforcement of current rules and cease threatening residents for offenses that do not cause harm. Right now it is the overly strict enforcement of pool rules rather than breaking of said pool rules that is causing discord within the community. VHP Board, please take immediate action to restore normalcy to pool use oversight and cease punitive actions against residents enjoying the pool and pool area in ways that do not adversely affect others.17 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Doyle Family

Stop the Use of Children As SlavesDear Fellow MoveOn Members, I was saddened by a Washington Post article called, "Cocoa's Child Laborers". The link to the Washington Post article is included for your convenience: https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2019/business/hershey-nestle-mars-chocolate-child-labor-west-africa/?utm_term=.5c5ac7afe286 This article discussed the current slavery of children at cocoa farms in Africa. Children, some as young as 5 years old, are either stolen from their parents or run away and forced into slavery at cocoa farms. It is estimated that 179 million young children are exploited and forced to work in horrible conditions that would be deplorable to the average American. A day’s work at a cocoa farm is not good work for an adult and it is truly an inhumane act to force children to work these farms. However, this modern day slavery is kept alive and thriving by you, me, all of us. Everyday, Americans eat chocolate candy, chocolate bars, chocolate cake and other food items containing chocolate that are made from the hands of child slaves. As of today’s date, NO American company (Mars, Nestle, Hershey) can state and certify that 100% of their products are free of slavery. Our United States companies know these products are made with the hands of enslaved children and yet, they are OK with this fact. These companies reported to the US government and to different media outlets, that they are trying and have been trying for twenty years to stop the use of slave labor in their chocolate products. However, they have concluded it is just too hard. It is too hard to stop buying products and crops from farms using children as slaves. It is too hard to buy products and crops from farms that do not use slave labor. So, for the last 20 years, our American companies present plans, promises, and presentations to government officials and continue to buy items, crops and products produced from enslaved children. There is no accountability for our American companies to stop enslaving children with their support of slavery at cocoa farms. This petition is designed to draw the attention to the issue and to request US legislation to be created with the following action items: 1) Call for labels and certifications on each piece of chocolate sold in the United States that children slaves were not used in the production of that item. 2) Implement and Enforce 19 USC Section 307 of the Tariff Act of 1930 and refuse the entry of cocoa, cocoa products, or chocolate that is produced or manufactured from the use of enslaved children. 3) Impose fines and penalties for American companies who do not achieve the US approved goals and objectives, as promulgated by the American company, for eradicating the slavery of children from the chocolate industry. Please sign this petition and send a message to our government and American companies to stop making empty promises and to start eradicating the slavery of children at cocoa farms. Thank you for your time and consideration.24 of 100 SignaturesCreated by D. Burton

The History Channel Must Stop Showing Roundup AdsDespite their GMO-free status, testing completed at Anresco, a laboratory registered with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), found glyphosate residues in Cheerios as well as other popular foods. General Mills' Cheerios are one of the first solid foods many parents feed to their children. They're small, convenient and easy to chew — and there's even a section on the Cheerios website for "new parents who have invited … original Cheerios to introduce their children to finger foods." When I heard this, I was appalled when I realized how widespread this problem was, since most parent use Cheerios as their go-to snack for their children. Every time I see one of Monsanto's ads for Roundup on The History Channel I promise myself to do something. This is why I am starting this petition. ________________________________________9 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Evy Mayer

Close the immigration jails along the Texas border now.I am a Family Therapist who works with children and families every day. I cannot look away from glaring child abuse. Our government's intentional terrorizing and traumatizing of the poor, and especially children, is unconscionable. This is a dark day for the U.S. that we would allow this treatment to happen to anyone, let alone innocent children and their parents who are fleeing impossible conditions in their own countries, brought on, in part, by our backing of their own corrupt governments. Please speak up now for all those stranded at inhumane border stations.60 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Melinda Clarke

Remove Unconstitutional Earnings Limit for Minor Social Security RecipientsI am starting this petition, because in 2017, after my then 12-year-old son (whose father passed away in 2010) spent 14 months in a Broadway show (which he of his own initiative auditioned for and got the role), I was told by Social Security that I would have to repay every dime I received to support him from his father’s death benefit, for all 24 months of 2016 and 2017. (Also, in compliance with the law, he paid taxes on this death benefit and yet the IRS is not required to pay back those taxes even though we have to repay the money the taxes were taken from.) The earnings limit is particularly hard on people in the entertainment industry and other temporary jobs, because benefits can be removed for entire years even though the working income received is months long. Also, the earnings limit is a violation of a child's civil rights because it is the only situation I could find where it was legal to force a minor child to essentially support themselves. In all 50 states and even in a Supreme Court ruling, it is not legal for a parent to withhold support for a minor child for any reason. Yet Social Security, with money paid by a parent and supporting a child on behalf of that parent, is allowed to withhold support. Since orphans are not being treated with the same protections under the law as other minors, I believe this violates the 14th Amendment and is therefore unconstitutional. I thank you for considering this petition. Current earnings limits laws put even further hardships on already struggling families who have lost not only a loved one but their vital source of income. Social Security was designed to protect these families. Please sign so Social Security lives up to this promise and so future families in this situation do not have to suffer this hardship.20 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Maria Pontones-Bonenfant

Time’s Up For Online Intimidation And ThreatsWomxn have the right to be exactly who we want to be in person or online. We can share what we want to share or nothing at all. We don’t owe men a damn thing! For too long black women, women of color, femme presenting non-binary folx, and our entire gender diverse community have had to accept an expectation of violence in exchange for the “freedom” to exist anywhere. We live with the fear and fact that every move we make is being stalked through the eyes of a man who believes we are here to act the way HE thinks we should act. No “type” of woman is safe. Strong outspoken women are not safe, women who do not openly resist are not safe. We hear about online death threats all the time and the most targeted group is what they perceive as our sisters( not just cis-ters). These threats incite physical violence that many of us won’t recover from. Usually, via private message but the most dangerous aggressors use open intimidation to scare us into submission. Especially community leaders and activists. One of the most recent cases was against a beloved mother, Justice League NYC activist and community organizer named Tamika Mallory. Michael Ravelle acted with malice when he publicly suggested death for Tamika Mallory and wrote, “ You’d look really good with a hole in your forehead.” This was an outright criminal act. Tamika has the right to continue to advocate and shine light on the darkness. Tamika is all of us. Like us, she is many things to many people who love her dearly. Hey, “not all men”, your grandmothers, partners, mothers and daughters deserve to live in a world where “ she was asking for it” is never uttered again. That includes the threat of violence after daring to believe in her inherent worth as a human. When they come for one of us they come for all of us. Michael Ravelle’s social media accounts are no longer active since this event, but the images and intent can’t be unseen. We will not allow this to be our children’s inheritance. We’ve done enough, already. Let’s get 1000 signatures on behalf of our sister Tamika and every person who is subjected to this vile act. We won’t be silent. We make a special appeal to Governor LB Pritzker to look into this because of his fight to reform the Illinois criminal justice system and the integrity with which he currently leads.1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Marcie Wells
