• Stop Vigo County Schools from Going to Semesters
It’s important, because it will cause lower test scores due to less class time. Also, it will put more stress into students and teachers because of more classes, but less class time to understand or teach content.

  • Seat Belts on All School Buses
Little Tyson was only 5 years old. He loved motorcycles and his favorite color was blue. Like many young children, he loved school, his family, and his bus driver. On September 27th, 2019 he was thrown through the windshield of his school bus on his way home. The bus struck a vehicle that pulled out too soon. He was not wearing a seat belt. He left behind his mother, father, and 4 siblings. School bus rules require the smallest children to be placed in front of the bus to monitor them more closely. Ultimately what took his life was not being restrained in a seat belt. Some school buses have belts; most don't. As a mother of a 5-year-old who rides to school on a bus, it has always bothered me that there are no restraints. Illinois and federal law require that children not only be in seat belts but proper car seats while transporting in any motor vehicle, but does not require school buses to have them. Some parents do not have another way to get their kids to school every day. We rely on the buses to safely transport our children there. So if the state and Congress will not find the funds to make our buses safe, they must not care as much about our children as they say they do. Please sign this petition to make it a LAW that ALL school buses have seatbelts installed.

  • We demand that the University of Florida cancel Donald Trump Jr.’s Speaking Appearance
The University of Florida should not be spending the money raised by families and the debt of hard working students to pay a bigoted oligarch to speak.

  • Preserve the Preserves
We cannot continue to destroy habitats to fit the lives of only humans. We need to devise a plan which considers the entire ecosystem. At least transplant it around new developments. Environmental groups need to be involved.

  • It’s Time to Listen: Native Hawaiian Protectors Have More to Teach Us About Our Relationship wit...
Background: Many traditional Hawaiians honor Mauna Kea (“White Mountain”) on the Big Island of Hawai’i as the holiest of ancient Hawaiian sacred sites, some say in all of Polynesia, the literal meeting place of earth and heaven in Hawaiian cosmology and home of the gods. Native Hawaiian Protectors of Mauna Kea have been encamped at the base of their mountain temple for months, engaging in nonviolent civil disobedience, prayer, hula, chant, song, and other spiritual rituals. The Hawaiian elders are doing what they peacefully can to prevent construction of an 18-story thirty-meter telescope (TMT) atop their sacred Mauna Kea, ascending to 32,696 feet from its Hilo flank on the ocean floor, the tallest mountain on Earth. The Hawaiian encampment is intended to obstruct construction equipment (but not astronomers who work at existing observatories on the mountain). Thirteen telescopes already sit atop Mauna Kea, but that degree of space-sharing has not sufficed, and next-generation technology is now decreed, with a construction budget of 1.4 billion dollars. Dozens of kapuna (Hawaiian elders) who have nonviolently protested new construction have been arrested. The Hawaiian people have historically been dominated and mistreated, symbolized by the decimation of 90 percent of the native Hawaiian population by post-contact Western diseases, the banning of the hula and the speaking of the Hawaiian language, the armed overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy by Western businessmen, the early imposition of voting restrictions on Hawaiians, sacred Hawaiian islands sites being used for military bombing practice, and military tank training and war games held at the base of Mauna Kea to this day. Related scenarios have been imposed repeatedly on Native American Indians, Alaskan Eskimos, Brazilian Indian tribes, Australian Aborigines, and other cultural groups. Presumed racial superiority and cultural insensitivity prevail as those in power unceasingly exert their will. For the past 150 years, mankind has mercilessly contaminated and destroyed so much of Mother Nature, and dismissed, mocked, and subjugated the indigenous peoples who have lived in harmony with her for millennia, and are crying out in her behalf. Our planet and her peoples are at serious risk: our sciences tell us this, and the stark evidence faces us daily. These are not “normal” times, and it should no longer be “Business as Usual: Full Speed Ahead!” We have plugged our ears to indigenous peoples for far too long as “Progress” has been given unbridled go-ahead. We no longer hear Mother Nature speak, and she needs native peoples’ voices, chants, dances, songs, stories for her communication with humankind. We need to restore sacred relationship and respectful connection with our Mother Nature. Before it is irreparably late, may we slow down, respectfully listen, and learn. Please sign this petition to show support for Native Hawaiian Protectors and their allies, for Hawaii’s Governor, and Hilo’s Mayor who are currently encouraging police restraint, and for the future of humanity.

  • Amber guygar needs more time.
If she was a black woman and a white male cop it would totally be different. It is not right that she gets 10 years for entering somebodys home and shooting them causing death. We the people are tired of this time after time. How does someone get 10 years for murder when someone gets caught selling dope and gets more time then taking a life. It is time for this to stop.

  • Demand Comcast withdraw its Supreme Court challenge of our oldest civil rights statute.
Comcast NBCUniversal is petitioning the Supreme Court to challenge the integrity of the Civil Rights Act of 1866, our oldest civil rights statute. Such a decision would strike down centuries of civil rights progress. Without this landmark legislation, grounds of racial discrimination in business matters will be lost in legal technicalities, causing tremendous harm to Black people, Black businesses, and Black economic equality. For more than 150 years, this law has been a bedrock protection from racial discrimination in employment, housing, banking, and consumer and business transactions. Now, Comcast is petitioning the Supreme Court to allow racial discrimination in business transactions as long as racism is not the only reason for denying someone a service Comcast is standing on the wrong side of history and siding with a Department of Justice that has been openly hostile toward the civil rights of Black people. Black people already face extensive barriers in accessing justice and economic equality in this country, and this challenge would serve only to let corporations off the hook for their discriminatory practices. Demand Comcast NBCUniversal drop its Supreme Court petition.

  • Tell 2020 presidential candidates: Take the pledge to restore net neutrality
Since the repeal of net neutrality, we’re already seeing alarming reports of internet providers slowing online services. The next president has the ability to restore crucial open internet protections. But Big Cable is trying to prevent that by using its money to influence the election. Our ability to connect and communicate is at stake. We need to get every presidential candidate on record for a free and open internet and insist they reject AT&T, Comcast and Verizon’s money. Will you help?

  • Legalization of Marijuana
Nine states in the union have legalized marijuana and it is already a booming business, so this petition is geared towards legalizing it in all states. The legalization will expand the workforce, as it already has, and will substantially decrease the trillion of dollars of national debt. History repeats itself, for example, the times of Prohibition of alcohol. Many deaths have occurred from alcohol overdose, but no reported cases have occurred from marijuana overdose as it is merely impossible. Weed will be regulated so it would be safe for recreational use, but it would also be helpful in the medical field as many people struggle with mental illness (anxiety for example) and seizures.
