As part of my Social Movement and Social Change class, I was challenged to bring a social movement to campus. I am asking you to sign this petition in hopes that Georgetown College will consider donating leftover food from the cafeteria to local shelters in Georgetown. This small step for the college could mean the world to many members of the community!

Personal experience increases Americans' knowledge of Cuba's culture, history and life today and provides opportunities to inform Cubans about the US. Whether we travel independently, in tour groups or on a cruise, we contribute to the economic well being of all Cubans. Our presence also fosters mutual understanding and encourages a positive natural evolution of bilateral relations and economic reforms. Candidates for President must make clear their opposition to regressive policies on Cuba and their views on consular policy, ending all travel and agricultural restrictions and repeal of embargo laws.

The persecution of immigrants of color continues. Imprisoning people who do not have a driver's license is one of the tools corporations use to fuel the private prison business. Immigrants rights are violated and the Government ignores the social and economic contributions of immigrants. Americans value hard work, dedication to family and community. We ask for access to driver's licenses for all residents of Minnesota, so that immigrants can participate fully in the economy and community of the state. There are twelve states that make driver's licenses available for all residents of their state: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, Vermont, Washington State and Washington D.C. Approving access to licenses for all residents in MN would create a more just state where residents would not be persecuted, families and immigrants would be more protected, racial profiling would be reduced, immigrants would have the right to identify themselves, and we will reduce the business of private prisons. Allowing all immigrants to access a driver’s license will improve overall public safety. Minnesota benefits when we have drivers that are licensed and knowledgeable about traffic rules and regulations. Having Drivers Licenses for all Minnesota residents will benefit many businesses: Drivers will buy more auto insurance, so sales for insurance agencies will increase. Undocumented drivers will buy more cars, so car businesses will have more sales. Financial institutions will be able to finance automobiles so there will be more income for financial institutions. The possible income that the state of Minnesota could earn by approving approximately 100,000 drivers. Cyber bullying is a serious problem that affects thousands of teens every year and can lead to depression or in some cases suicide. While there may be laws in place to protect people from cyberbullying in Florida, there could be better ones.

Republicans’ “Protect Act” gives power back to insurance companies to charge women and older adults more and sell people plans that do not include comprehensive coverage. Insurance companies would once again be able to refuse to cover essential health benefits, such as hospitalization, mental health, maternity care, and prescription drugs. This puts artificial barriers up for people with pre-existing conditions. For example, someone with cancer may be sold a plan but denied prescription drug coverage. These types of restrictions were the norm pre-ACA, and the “Protect Act” takes us back to the days when your insurance card might have been a really expensive piece of plastic in your wallet.

Houston Police Officers Union Joe Gamaldi has shown that he simply can't be trusted, and he should step down immediately. After five Houston police officers were shot and two civilians were killed in a botched raid, Gamaldi recklessly and baselessly threatened activists who work for police accountability and reform with targeting and surveillance: "We're going to be keeping track on all of y'all, and we're going to make sure to hold you accountable every time you stir the pot on our police officers." Then Houston news outlets began reporting the truth: that two of the officers had falsified evidence used to obtain the warrant that led to the shootings. Their lies -- not black and Latino activists -- imperiled the police officers and left two people dead. Now the FBI is investigating the crooked officers who conducted the raid. In the weeks since the truth came out, Gamaldi has failed to publicly apologize. Even worse, he has deflected and minimized the need for change when confronted with growing calls for accountability for the officers who put their colleagues in danger and violated the public's trust. Gamaldi's behavior is inexcusable. At best, it shows that he's incapable of leadership. At worse, it reveals that he will capitalize on any tragedy to win cheap points with people who think police should be above the law. Police officers and the public deserve better leadership in this moment. Please join me in demanding that Joe Gamaldi resign as president of Houston Police Officers Union.

I work from home teaching online and creating online teaching materials for writing skills. It has become impossible to concentrate on any given day of the week as leaf blowers are used every day at all hours of the day! I have also ceased to hear birds for much of the day and started to hear neighbors' dogs barking during the day when leaf blowers run amok.

No matter which candidate wins the Democratic nomination for President of the United States in 2020, he or she represents our only chance to replace Donald Trump. We ask that voters and Democratic candidates sign Our Pledge.
