• Mayor Weinberger: Revise Burlington Housing Code
Are you outraged by the housing options in this city? Tired of paying an arm and a leg for substandard rentals? Appalled by what meets minimum housing standards in Burlington? The lack of safe, affordable housing poses a threat to the health of Burlington residents. One solution is to hold landlords to a higher standard when it comes to property maintenance. This means revising the City of Burlington Housing Code. The National Center for Healthy Housing developed the National Healthy Housing Standard in partnership with the American Public Health Association in recognition of the impact housing has on the nation’s health. This standard is more stringent than the City of Burlington Housing Code in key areas including: requirements for windows and exterior doors, specifications regarding natural light and ventilation, minimum interior temperature requirements, requirements for condition of bathrooms and kitchens, requirements for moisture control and pest management, and security requirements. To protect the health of tenants, the City of Burlington needs to revise the minimum housing code to align with the National Healthy Housing Standard.

  • Change the dress code!
The girls at many schools around the country have been pressured to wear t-shirts and shorts past their knees in the hot summer days. I believe that we should be able to choose what we wear without fear of getting into trouble at school because it makes us feel good, and just because a girl wears “revealing clothing” doesn’t mean that they are instantly going to get raped or anything of that nature. Girls and guys should be able to at least wear tank tops and shorter shorts in the summer; it’s not like our shoulders and knees are instantly going to “distract the boys.” The dress codes make out women and girls to be sexual objects, and that showing a little bit of neck or shoulder would instantly make us sluts or worse. Stop slut-shaming girls for wearing what makes them feel good about themselves.

  • Bring Back the AAF
The rich owner of the league just threw a selfish tantrum like a 3-year-old kid. He can’t have his way but forget about the men and women who count on that money to pay bills. The league was growing in the hearts of America and this dude just left every man and woman who are feeding their families because he couldn’t have his way!

The health of women and babies has been put in peril from undisclosed amounts of asbestos in the talc, which becomes embedded in human body tissues and can cause cancer. This is entirely preventable by simply eliminating talcum powder products from the market.

  • Make Equal Pay for Equal Work the Law
Right now, women make up nearly half of the United States’ workforce, bringing billions of dollars into our economy and serving as the sole or primary income earner for almost half of all households. Yet despite the immense economic power they hold, women make on average only 80 cents for every dollar a white man makes. However, for women and other people of color, the pay gap is often even wider, with African American women making 61 cents, Native American women making 58 cents, and Latina American women making just 53 cents for every dollar. This is unacceptable. Decades after the passage of the Equal Pay Act and the Fair Labor Standards Act, women and people of color still face lower starting salaries and fewer opportunities for professional growth. This contributes to higher levels of poverty for women and children and reinforces social and economic barriers to health, education, and social opportunities. Right now, the Senate has a chance to pass legislation that will bring us closer to eliminating the wage gap and ensuring that women receive equal pay for equal work. Yet despite recently passing with bipartisan support in the House of Representatives, Senate Leader Mitch McConnell is unlikely to even bring the legislation to a vote. That’s why we need your help. Sign our petition today to tell Senate Leader McConnell to support people of color and women—#PeopleLikeUs—by bringing the Paycheck Fairness Act to a vote. Together, we can ensure that all people are paid what they have earned, regardless of their gender, race, or ethnicity! Want to do more? Share this petition with your network, then call your Senators and tell them to urge McConnell to vote on the bill and ask them to support this critical piece of legislation.

  • Congress: Pass the Census IDEA Act
We can put a stop the Trump administration's plan to RIG the 2020 Census and skew our democracy for the next decade or more. The Census is constitutionally required to count every person living in the United States. But Trump's Commerce Department is trying to add an unnecessary, untested, and unreliable question about citizenship status to the survey -- which, coupled with his anti-immigrant fearmongering, will decrease the response rate of communities of color and keep those communities from being fairly represented. Here's how we stop this racist scheme in its tracks: the Census IDEA Act. This bill would require three years of review for any new Census questions. This would stop Trump's Census-rigging in its tracks -- and ensure that only well-tested questions appear on the survey in the future. Add your name and tell Congress to support the Census IDEA Act now.

Promise the Children supports the development of healthy children and families. Our nation's Food Stamp Program is an anti-hunger program whose only purpose is to help our most vulnerable neighbors eat. Restricting food stamps will only lead to more hunger and homelessness and these proposed cuts should be stopped.

  • Congressional Misconduct & Abuses of Power
I am personally affected as a woman, as a millennial, as someone who’s entire life has the potential to be permanently adversely affected by the blatant attacks on the Constitution, on the rights & processes it affords me as well as the rest of this country- or it did, until several members of GOP leadership decided , in the public words of Mitch McConnell regarding Merritt Garland “I don’t care about the Constitution.” This was not the 1st time the GOP decided to eschew rules, laws, norms, civility or the best interest of America in favor of personal and partisan political interests, but it was a huge step in what at present, is a brazen and shameless attack on American democracy. Mitch McConnell isn’t a lone actor- he’s got enablers in all 3 branches of govt as well as in the private sector. But he’s the Senate Majority leader & I’m not alone in the knowledge that he has taken what should be one of the most important, esteemed positions in all of the legislative branch and he has blatantly abused the position for personally conflicted political interests, from campaign finance reform, voting to remove sanctions on one of the biggest actors in Russian election interference- oligarch Oleg Deripaska , the destructive Kavanaugh hearings, the government shutdown that not only brought half a million Americans to financial and professional crises- but was the last thing this country needed as a means of alienating federal employees who worked for the most important parts of this country’ National security roles, possibly creating countless new recruitment opportunities for Russian & other hostile states looking to turn Americans into new Michael Flynn individuals. He and Lindsey Graham have tried and succeeded in destroying critical procedural processes in the appointment of countless judges to the highest courts, as well as mitigating the number of votes to pass bills so that we now have a rogue group of Senators that have decided to partner with the worst president and Russian asset Donald Trump to prevent the House from exercising their rightful checks and balances. Mitch McConnell has at the same time, worked actively to obstruct the restoration of The Voting Rights Act, he’s entirely happy to allow Trump & his administration to sell nuclear power to Saudi Arabia, remain in violation of The Magnitsky Act, have personal conversations with Vladimir Putin, while as a ranking member of Senate committees he was also enabling the obstruction of justice, an illegal release of classified information and manufacturing propaganda in the form of the Nunes memo. Representatives in the House and Senate can be sued as individuals in certain circumstances, Devin Nunes in fact was already sued for his illegal release of classified information. Mitch McConnell has blatantly violated ethics, he’s lied to the American people & OpenSecrets as well as other sources indicate Mitch McConnell has received contributions from Russian companies & entities , and only since then did he begin to use his office to represent Oleg Deripaska & “mismanage” & abuse his investigatory roles on matters of national security. Unfortunately, the processes of simply electing someone in his place, although there’s presently 2 possible candidates who plan to run against him, isn’t going to undo the countless assaults on democracy committed directly by Mitch McConnell, or the countless assaults levied by other Republicans that he’s both enabled directly & the unethical, immoral, bigoted, and dishonest actions that his own behavior has provided “inspiration” or ugly precedent for. Factually, I am referring to actions in the latter category were taken only AFTER McConnell’s unprecedented and despicable Machiavellian misuse & abuse of his office. I believe this is partly because he’s not just any fellow Republican but he’s the leader of the Senate. This is an insuperable stream of power, of influence on our climate, on women’s health, on healthcare, on the release of the Mueller report and related critical matters of transparency, and the public interest and national security. The damage to Constitutional matters of checks and balances, on the passage of ALL LAWS, appointment of judges, confirmation of presidential appointees, as well as his obvious contemptuous participation in the shutdown after the most historic win by Democrats in 2018. This is just on a federal level, just one election, but it should be viewed as a despicable dirty trick to hinder the will of the people and the consent of the governed. McConnell doesn’t give a hoot about the welfare of our democracy, he’s made public statements saying so. He doesn’t see the consent of the governed as anything he is bound by- and his interests are to pretend climate change, Russian interference, the rule of law, sexual assault & harassment, a woman’s right to choose both matters of consensual sex as well as reproductive choice, gender issues, economic, racial and ethnic inequalities as his job. He is not interested in permitting the Senate to operate in the way the Constitution or its Framers intended. I also believe that Lindsey Graham and Devin Nunes are in a comparable category of Republican representatives that have spent their time (at least in the last 4 years in the business of behaving as “rogue agents” not representing their constituents- and whether or not some of their constituents on any given day approve of Donald Trump is no excuse for actions of a Senator or Congressman. These are people who have made a daily practice of intimidating and battering witnesses testifying in public and ostensibly closed door hearings, threatening and defaming the most ethical and esteemed public officials in the country like Robert Mueller, Andrew McCabe, Andrew Weissman, and countless other reputable investigators simply because their demented and ethically impotent personality cult leader Donald Trump is angry that in America the matters of accountability for one’s actions is a cr...

  • Tell the Senate: Don't let Mitch McConnell block democracy reform
Mitch McConnell is single-handedly blocking the biggest democracy reform package in decades and overriding what the vast majority of Americans want -- a democracy where we all count. We need your voice to stop him. McConnell is using his post as Senate Majority Leader to mount a one-man blockade against the For the People Act, a new bill to majorly expand voting rights, put ordinary voters before big money donors, and hold elected officials -- including the President -- to the highest ethical standards. It’s already passed the House -- and 47 Senators have signed on as co-sponsors. But McConnell says the Senate won’t even give the For the People Act a single hearing. We can’t let one self-interested, power-hungry politician stand between us and a better democracy. Tell the Senate NOW to demand a fair up-or-down vote on the For the People Act.

For the up coming 2019- 2020 school year she was denied the opportunity to be apart of the varsity cheerleading team based on lack of accommodations provided by the school to address her disabilities. Children with special needs and disabilities should have equal opportunities to be involved in all extracurricular activities and programs as their peers."
