• Tell Standard Chartered to stop funding the polluting coal industry!
Standard Chartered likes to say that it takes climate change seriously. But the bank remains a major funder of coal-fired power plants. As the catastrophic dangers of coal power become more clear, Standard Chartered is starting to feel the pressure to cut ties with the dirty coal industry. Now is our chance to convince the bank to stop financing the destruction of communities and our climate. But we can't do this without you.

  • Tell your Senators: Defend protections for bees and other wildlife from toxic pesticides!
The Fish and Wildlife Service's 2014 decision to phase out the use of bee-killing neonic pesticides was a critical step in helping protect bees and other pollinators that are essential to our food system. Now, it is trying to undo that phase-out. The Fish and Wildlife Service should be strengthening our regulations, not weakening them to make it easier for wildlife to be exposed to toxic pesticides. We need your help to push Congress to hold the Fish and Wildlife Service accountable!

  • Help send 30,000 messages to Congress to protect the Clean Water Act!
Section 401 of the Clean Water Act allows individual states to set their own water quality standards. It also lets states withhold permitting from federally approved infrastructure projects if they fail to meet the state’s standards. This provision is an important tool to stop polluting projects like hydroelectric dams, export terminals, and natural gas pipelines. The Clean Water Act is one of our most important -- and popular -- environmental protections. Together, we can stop the House from gutting it. But we need you to speak up now.

  • Tell Aramark, Sodexo and Compass Group: Stop fueling environmental destruction through your food ...
Factory farming pollutes water and contributes to climate chaos. Pesticides poison people and are leading to the decline of bees and monarch butterflies. And yet Aramark, Sodexo, and Compass Group are lining the pockets of “Big Food” corporations like Tyson, which produce pesticide-intensive, GMO-fed, factory-farmed meat. If food service companies shifted to serving food that is good for people and the planet, it would make a huge impact. But we need your help to urge them to act!

  • Tell the Senate: Reject pesticide industry crony Scott Hutchins’ nomination!
Hutchins’ nomination is just the latest example of Trump’s giveaways to Dow. Why is Trump so interested in helping Dow? Maybe because the company donated $1 million to his inaugural committee. Together, we can stop this dangerous nominee. The last person Trump nominated for this job was Sam Clovis -- a racist, anti-environment extremist with no background in science. And Friends of the Earth members like you played a key role in forcing him to withdraw his nomination. But we need to act now to win again.

  • Help send 30,000 comments to the EPA: Don’t slash protections from methane pollution!
The EPA’s restrictions on methane pollution are a common-sense effort to protect our environment and our communities. The only reason the Trump administration wants to roll them back is to help their friends in the fossil fuel industry make more profits. The EPA could halt Trump’s disastrous plan in its tracks – but it will only act if people like you speak up.

  • There's Zero Vision on 34th and Benning Road!
Traffic deaths in Washington, DC have increased every year since 2015, when Mayor Muriel Bowser announced her Vision Zero initiative to accomplish zero traffic fatalities by 2024. The conditions at 34th and Benning Road NE are consistently and visibly dangerous. As a teenager, my mother was struck at this same intersection. With the clear display of inequality in access, development, and quality shopping options for residents East of the River, it is our government's responsibility to provide safe roads. View footage of the intersection at: https://youtu.be/P-myA7fHfZ4

  • Rescue the Pigs Trapped During Hurricane Florence
Hurricane Florence is about to hit North Carolina and in its path are several farms full of pigs who will be left to the hurricane if the state's emergency management team does not take action now. While the human population prepares for this impending emergency, the pigs are confined in crates, trapped on a farm where they will be stuck during the worst of the hurricane. Action is needed now to evacuate the pigs the same way we should save any animal from a deadly natural disaster.

  • Investigate the Trump Administration
The American people expect and deserve the highest level of accountability from their public officials -- especially the President of the United States. That's why the recent New York Times op-ed written anonymously by a senior staff member of the Trump administration is so alarming. The piece claims that the President demonstrates “erratic behavior,” “impulsiveness,” and “instability” -- and that to mitigate the effects of his recklessness, unelected officials are secretly working behind Trump's back to hinder his agenda. If Trump’s unappointed advisors are in effect running the nation, as the New York Times op-ed alleges, we must conduct a full investigation and get accountability. Our constitution has mechanisms to remove a president who is unable to fulfill the oath of office -- and unelected anonymous people making executive decisions is not sustainable. These allegations could threaten our national security, undermine our credibility, and cause significant harm to many Americans and people around the globe. Not only do they paint the President as incapable of fulfilling the oath of office -- but they also suggest that an unidentifiable network of staffers is making big decisions for our nation without any systems of accountability. Congress must live up to its oversight responsibilities and immediately investigate the claims made by the anonymous official.

  • Stop the T-Mobile / Sprint merger!
T-Mobile & Sprint are pushing a $26 billion merger that would combine the third and fourth largest wireless carriers in the country. That’d mean less competition, higher prices, and fewer options for wireless customers -- particularly for low-income and other marginalized communities that rely on affordable wireless service. Simply put: if this deal goes through – we all lose. A marketplace where Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile call the shots means fewer choices, higher prices, and a wider digital divide. Our democracy depends on all Americans having the tools they need to communicate with each other and fully participate in a 21st century society.

  • Don't Mess With Our Vote (Florida)
Today, in this historic momen,t we must show politicians and elected officials our collective power. Together we are putting them on notice; that we will not allow the coordinated attacks on our voting rights to continue. We oppose efforts to cheat the system and suppress our votes, such as limiting voting registration, the purging of millions of eligible voters, and the inadequate response to election security. These attacks disproportionately silence the voices of black, brown, working-class, and under-served communities. This will not be tolerated. This November, largely as a result of these voter suppression efforts, it is predicted that more than 26 million young people, women, and people of color will not turn out to vote. We need these 26 million voices to be heard. We need ALL of our voices to be heard. Let’s prove them wrong. We will be collecting signatures on this petition until September 30th. In October the signatures will be delivered to Governor Rick Scott, Secretary of State Ken Detzner, and Florida Election Officials.
