  • Hydrogen Fluoride at Husky Energy Oil Refinery Could Have killed us All
I live here and learned in 2011 how deadly this chemical, if released, would be to workers, to the environment, and to the entire community within 25 miles. The low- hanging cloud could put 180,000 people in the Twin Ports area at risk of injury or death. Hydrogen fluoride is still being used at this refinery even though the management was told 8 years ago that other safer technologies existed. Husky Energy owes it to us as citizens to explain why this refinery is continuing to put at risk the workers, the environment, and all of us across the Twin Ports area.

  • No More Inedible School Lunches!
We need to change the menu. Our country is sadly the #1 country with the highest obesity rates, estimated at 160 million Americans being overweight. The outcome of the public schools' foods has been deteriorating these children's health level, and the scale is dropping even lower. Not only is there obesity, but there's a high rate of anemia, which is a condition of losing healthy, red blood cells caused by a poor diet and insufficient exercise. Already thousands of parents have complained about the foul food that is dared to reach into their children's bodies, but there are still so many schools that allow containing frozen and artificial foods, including vending machines filled with chips and chocolate bars. We need a change now!

  • Restore U.S. Funding of the White Helmets
Popularly known as the White Helmets, Syria Civil Defence is a group of 3,000 volunteers, men and women, from local communities who have since 2013 risked their lives to save people from underneath the rubble of buildings destroyed during the Syrian civil war. Bakers, tailors, salespersons, teachers – they are now trained fire-fighters, search and rescue workers, and medics. The group has won the Right Livelihood Award in 2016 and received 130 nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize. The White Helmets are viciously slandered by forces allied with the Syrian dictator, who claim they are “terrorists” or actors making propaganda. In fact they’re the only organized rescuers in areas controlled by opposition forces. They’ve saved 100,000 people while losing 200 of their own. They video their work and this enrages those who demand Syrians either meekly die or surrender. As of mid-April 2018, funding from the U.S. government to the White Helmets has been frozen by the Trump Administration. The U.S. has sent Syria Civil Defence around $33 million over 6 years, a tiny sum compared to the billions and billions spent on war. We call on the U.S. to unfreeze and increase money sent to this amazing humanitarian organization.

  • Ebola is back: restore global pandemic funding now!
There have been 18 deaths so far, and 32 infected, in the new Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo. [1] Outbreaks of highly contagious, deadly diseases can usually be contained with the right support and responses. The United States has long led the way in providing the knowledge and resources needed to prevent small, local outbreaks from becoming globe-spanning epidemics, but we are currently under-prepared [2] to respond to a major public health threat. Everyone has a stake in preventing a return to a past where infectious diseases killed more people than wars. The White House needs to restore high-level pandemic response funding and bring in skilled public health experts to coordinate with medical response teams in the US and around the world. --- [1] - "A new Ebola outbreak has infected 32 people — and the White House official in charge of responses to global pandemics just left," by Kevin Loria, May 11, 2018. https://www.chron.com/technology/businessinsider/article/A-new-Ebola-outbreak-has-infected-32-people-12907228.php [2] - "Top White House official in charge of pandemic response exits abruptly," by Lena H. • Respect Senator John McCain
I want others to sign on to demonstrate support for the life Senator McCain has led - an American hero. We do not need to agree with all his choices in politics and yet the American people should defy the White House stance and unwillingness to apologize for the comment. How soon before it is you or me. #respectSenatorMcCain.

  • Support the ERA!!!
Most Americans (96%!) believe in equal rights; 80% think we already have them. We Don't! Women and the LGBTQ community are not protected by the Constitution, which is where all our rights and laws originate. Passage of the ERA would correct that. The amendment fell three-states short of passage in the 70's, but in March of 2017, the state of Nevada ratified, reducing that number to two. Now the state of Illinois is on the brink of ratification. The ERA passed the Illinois Senate in April, and will likely come up for a vote in the House this Wednesday, May 16. Please sign this petition to thank Representative Lang, and to give him your support. With Illinois on board, only one more state is needed for the ERA to become the law of the land. "Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex." • Treatment of Inmates
I am requesting that this be sent to President Donald Trump, Governor Greg Abbott, The United States House of Representatives, The Texas State House, The Texas State Senate I am requesting that a change is put in place as for how inmates are treated and to pass a legislation bill to make sure their civil and constitutional rights are being upheld. They are treated unjustly without rhythm or reason. They go weeks without going to the commissary. Their mail is not delivered in a timely manner. Even though they have been convicted of a crime they still deserve to be treated fairly and given a fair chance to be rehabilitated.

  • Tell San Rafael to stand up for immigrants!
Nationwide, the Trump Administration is attacking immigrants and separating families in a series of policies that are wasteful and wrong. California has stood up to these policies through laws like the California Values Act. Not surprisingly, the Trump Administration opposes these efforts and is suing California. San Rafael’s City Council needs to show its support for our state’s pro-immigrant laws by signing on to a "friend-of-the-court" brief. The laws the Administration is challenging received strong support in the California legislature and broad endorsement by labor, faith and civil and immigrant rights organizations throughout the state. Immigrants are a vital part of our state's heart and soul, and our local governments should not be involved in painful deportations that separate families and further undermine confidence in law enforcement. Tell the San Rafael City Council to sign onto an amicus brief for the California Values Act today!
