Ban Bump Stocks & Ghost Guns in ConnecticutMy neighbor was the Sandy Hook shooter. Just Imagine if he used bump stocks on his AR-15 on that tragic day on December 14, 2012 when he murdered 20 children and six educators. The Las Vegas shooter used bump stocks to convert his semiautomatic rifles to function as automatic weapons to murder 58 people and wound 500 others. The Las Vegas shooting was the deadliest in modern U.S. history. Ghost guns are untraceable homemade guns. In November, a Northern California man, who was prohibited from possessing firearms because of a restraining order, killed five people in a rampage using semiautomatic rifles that he made himself. In 2016, a Baltimore man fired at police with a homemade AR-15. In 2013, a Santa Monica shooter used a ghost gun in his shooting spree that killed five. Ghost guns appeal to those who cannot legally purchase firearms. Until Congress bans bump stocks and ghost guns, Connecticut lawmakers must act now to protect their constituents.2,251 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by Newtown Action Alliance

Stop the Tower on the RiverThe Riverside and North Riverside neighborhoods repeatedly come together to protect our historic neighborhoods from business encroachment that would negatively impact the aesthetic of our historic neighborhoods, lower property values and invite further development within the river corridors. With the sole exception of David Foster, who is familiar with the aesthetic and spirit of the neighborhood, the MAPC voted in favor of the Conditional Use Permit made by Central Plains Development, Greg Ferris Consulting, and APC Towers, Raleigh, NC. However, our DAB, also intimately knowledgeable about Riverside/North Riverside, voted to not recommend approval. We ask that T-Mobile explore collocation on existing towers, micro-towers on electric poles or alternative locations that would be less egregious. This tower does not need to be erected at the entrance to the historic Riverside neighborhoods. We plead with our City Council to not allow one business-owner, his broker and an out-of-state investor to desecrate our riverbank and forever change the entrance to the city's historic neighborhoods along the Little Arkansas River. A 110-foot cell phone tower would have an undue effect on the health, safety, and welfare of the community as they tie to the aesthetics of the Riverside neighborhoods.616 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Madeline McCullough

MLB No ConfidenceManfred and O'Conner have put in place the runner-on-2nd rule. This dismissal of baseball tradition shows their lack of ability to serve as baseball officials. Sign this petition as a vote of no confidence.25 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Anonymous Ballfan

Body Cameras for the St. Petersburg Police DepartmentGiven the St. Petersburg's Police Departments past history of killing an unarmed motorist and its recent controversial interaction with another citizen, they can not be trusted nor expected to monitor their own behavior without additional tools such as body cameras.51 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Tina Allen

Repave Telegraph AveFor over 10 years, the Temescal Telegraph Business Improvement District (TTBID) has been trying to get the City of Oakland to repave Telegraph Ave. between 45th and 51st Streets. The City itself has ranked this street as one of the worst streets in the city (ranked as Poor/Failing at <30, when 100 is the top score). Now, this stretch of Telegraph Ave is barely passable, with pedestrians and bicyclists hurt frequently and causing costly repairs to vehicles. The hazardous state of the road is a threat to the safety of the Oakland community. Telegraph Ave between 45th Street and 51st St., one of Oakland’s major thoroughfares, is in the heart of a bustling commercial district. The crumbling street has over 25,000 cars per day, 4 freeway on and off ramps, thousands of bicyclists and pedestrians and a major AC Transit bus line. The State just increased gas taxes to increase funding for things like street repair, and a year ago Oakland’s voters approved a $600 million bond issue for the same purpose. It is simply inexcusable that this key part of a major thoroughfare is left to crumble year after year after year. It’s time to pave this section of Telegraph now.707 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Temescal Telegraph BID

Demand No Guns in SchoolsMore guns in our schools won't make them safer--especially for Black children who are already criminalized and violated inside and outside of schools. At a young age, Black students are already heavily policed by the presence of police officers in the school buildings, metal detectors, and a system of punitive discipline that funnels them through the school-prison pipeline. Imagine what could happen when the same teacher that disproportionately punishes Black children for their behavior is armed with a gun. That reality is too much to bear. This ridiculous and dangerous response is sadly not new. After the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting in Newtown, resulting in the death of 20 children and six adults, the NRA introduced a new strategy to exploit school shootings to benefit the gun industry by driving up gun sales. According to NCES statistics, Trump's plan would require arming up to 700,000 more people in schools with guns. This terrible idea has nothing to do with safety, it's about making money--and exploiting of the families who've lost their loved ones in tragedy. Bills are popping up in state legislatures already to approve measures that would arm teachers. That's why we all must stand together and show these lawmakers, and Trump, that we will not allow gun companies get rich while putting our children in danger. Pink Slips in ScrantonThe Pennsylvania auditor general cited the Scranton School District as the "worst audit" he has ever seen. The district's response is to furlough 98 teachers, including: Librarians (all), Health/Physical Education, Art, English, Science, Special Education, Mathematics, Family Consumer Science, Music and Industrial Arts On Feb. 9, 2018, the general counsel of the governor’s office sent a letter to the Scranton School District saying, "... the District [must] immediately discontinue and reverse any action to suspend any professional employee. ..." Further, if the district refuses to comply, then it would "... lead to the Department taking action to protect the students and employees of the District." The Scranton School District has chosen to ignore the governor! Sign this petition demanding that the Scranton School District board of directors follow the recommendation of the Office of General Counsel and immediately reinstate the 98 educators who received pink slips.377 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Asher Huey
