  • Don't Risk The Students Lives and Change The Designs
I am a sixteen-year-old student at Hillcrest High School. I and MANY other people find it very concerning about the new school plan. Looking at the new school plan I am saddened at how the safety concerns of the staff and students have been mitigated a tremendous amount. With the current epidemic on our hands about shootings that have been happening in schools. We would have thought that safety to the people working in a school and the students would be the first priority when making new designs for a school. Sadly we have been mistaken. The many concerns I have with the school are astonishing. The one myself and many parents and teachers are concerned with are the “glass walls”. Hearing the concerns of the teachers should have been enough to change the design plans but again, I am mistaken. At this time I will be started a petition and raising awareness about this safety hazard. These walls have many concerns to the staff/students. Please take note that I understand why you want to present these walls in schools. The light being let in suppose to academically make us improve. This being true and would have an effect on the student population...still doesn’t make up for the lack of a safety it provides. The other reason is for the fishbowl idea so Administration can look into classrooms to see what teachers are doing in their classrooms! There are many ways to get around that idea that is SAFE! Living the school life of coming into an already unsafe environment and being worried about what could happen (shooting, stabbing, bombs, and bullying). This concern is already too monumental. Having to go to school on anxiety medication because you are too scared to walk into the school is baffling. The school environment now isn’t anywhere near where it should be. These new building designs are NOT helping in any way, shape, or form. We don't care if the school is pleasing to the eye. We care about safety. I wish you would as well. The Risk of the glass walls is infinite (IF there was a school shooter, If there was an earthquake, if there were a fire, and etc) This does not include how distracting it would be to see people outside in the hallways! Kids get distracted when the door is open and there is a class/kids outside. We still should have a say in what the designs of our new school will be. Please don’t risk students lives and change the designs.

  • Repeal North Carolina's Ag-gag Law
It is unthinkable that in a nation that purports to value Freedom of Speech, as guaranteed in the First Amendment, that we cannot simply report on conditions where people work, especially when it concerns something as basic as food.

  • Prevent torturer from becoming CIA director
Deadline is probably early April. If the Senate confirms Gina Haspel, then we as a country are condoning torture. I have three cousins who I know died at the hands of the Nazis, and a very dear cousin who barely escaped. As citizens, our responsibility is to convince our representatives to vote against racism and torture.

  • Reduce distracted driving by passing hands-free driving Legislation in MN!
HF1180 and SF837 allow voice-activated or other hands-free use of cell phones while prohibiting other uses of cell phones when the vehicle is in motion or part of traffic, with some exceptions. Why now?  18% increase in distracted driving fatalities from 2014 to 2015.  1 in 4 crashes involves distracted driving.  1 in 5 traffic fatalities involves distracted driving.  Distracted driving is now the fourth most common contributing factor in fatalities behind speed, impairment, and fatigue.

  • Bring Karaoke back to Applebees!!!!
Every week I would look forward to Thursday nights. Singing tone deaf versions of early 2000s throwbacks and seeing my friends make a fool of themselves was the spark from which my life found its fire. Now that fire has been extinguished by watered down long island iced teas and margaritas. Lets make our voices heard once again and bring back Karaoke Thursdays!

  • Congressman Jim Banks: Return $1,000 to the NRA & Refuse Any Future NRA Donations
The NRA is using money to ensure that no common sense gun laws are put in place in our country. This is all out of greed, obviously, they want less gun laws so they can sell more guns. In our current state, we HAVE to put new policies in place NOW & the NRA is in our way.

  • Senate must reject Mike Pompeo as Secretary of State
Donald Trump fired Rex Tillerson two weeks ago and announced that he that intends to replace him with current CIA chief Mike Pompeo, who has endorsed torture, pushed anti-Muslim policies, embraces war, shuns diplomacy, and has received more money from the Koch brothers than any other member of Congress. Pompeo is dangerous, and he must be stopped. The good news is that we can win this. If Senate Democrats and Independents unify in opposition, we can block the nomination of Mike Pompeo, whose pro-war views are so extreme that even many Republicans may vote no.  Pompeo is a vehemently anti-Muslim bigot who has shamelessly embraced the use of torture and is an opponent of diplomacy. Trump himself has said that while Tillerson was more inclined to support the diplomatic deal with Iran, Pompeo agrees with Trump about tearing it up—risking putting us on a path to war with Iran. And now that Trump has announced John Bolton as his new national security adviser, the risks just got even higher. As Trump approaches the high-stakes meeting with North Korea, Americans need a secretary of state who believes in diplomacy. Mike Pompeo is not that person—he's a radical ideologue who will put us in greater danger.  All it takes to reject Pompeo is a simple majority in the Senate, but things are moving fast. Senators need to see—right now—that constituents are tuned in and ready to hold them accountable. Last year, as Trump appointed a Cabinet of authoritarians and kleptocrats, senators heard powerful outrage from voters and began to oppose Cabinet picks—even Tillerson, a moderate compared to Pompeo, received only 54 votes. We should not treat Pompeo as business as usual. All senators must hear from their constituents and understand that this is their chance to reject Trump's march to war.
