  • No Mandatory State ID for Medical Marijuana Patients
For years, medical marijuana patients in California have depended on easy access to medical marijuana to relieve an array of health conditions and restore health and vitality in their lives. But now the well being of the state's thousands of medical cannabis patients have been jeopardized by overly complicated procedures and higher costs. Here's why we are strongly opposing the requirement of a state-issued medical marijuana ID card and need your support for facilitating a complete rollback of the aforementioned scheme: 1) The entire process is redundant, time-consuming and overly complicated for patients holding a valid MMJ recommendation. 2) Added costs of up to $100 in getting a state medical marijuana ID, in addition to the excise state tax rate on cannabis. 3) Hampered tax savings for patients with a valid medical marijuana recommendation. 4) Delayed medical assistance for state's MMJ patients. 5) Though MMJ retailers would be able to claim the exemption on their sales and use tax return, retailers would need to retain supporting documentation to substantiate exempt transactions at their own cost and time, potentially passing those costs to patients. 6) State ID cards require in-person appointments at the CDPH, limiting access to physically impaired and seriously ill patients. 7) In rural areas, access to the CDPH to apply for your card is limited and could result in excessive travel times and cost, potentially leading to lost wages as appointments may be limited to Monday through Friday. 8) Applications require additional paperwork [Application/Renewal (CDPH-9042), Physician Attestation, Medical documentation or Written Documentation of Patient’s Medical Records (CDPH-9044)] to be filled out by the prescribing physician resulting in an unnecessary repeat appointment at the patient’s cost 9) The ID Card program is discriminatory and violates doctor/patient privilege. 10) Applications require proof of residence via a Government-issued photo ID, limiting patients’ access. Medical patients feel betrayed by state's top regulators, including Governor Jerry Brown, who himself recommended eliminating the need for a state-issued medical marijuana identification card in April last year. But, his promises have now turned into questions. So, show your support in ensuring uninterrupted access to medical marijuana at lower prices, lower tax rates and most importantly, complete legal protection.

  • Immediate Enactment of DHAP to Hurricane Victims
Dear Governor Charlie Baker, On behalf of the vulnerable people who are still struggling after Hurricane Maria, we urge you to formally request robust federal housing resources and programs, including the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Disaster Housing Assistance Program (DHAP), as well as a special allocation of the Low Income Housing Tax Credit, National Housing Trust Fund, and HOME Investment Partnerships Program, as soon as possible. History has shown us that DHAP is an effective and proven solution for individuals and families with the greatest needs – including low-income seniors, people with disabilities, families with children, veterans, people experiencing homelessness, and other at-risk populations – after devastating disasters. By providing temporary rental assistance and wrap-around case management, DHAP helps the lowest income families find permanent housing solutions, secure employment, and connect to public benefits as they rebuild their lives and get back on their feet. Today, we need DHAP more than ever. After Hurricane Maria, for example, extremely low-income families are facing significant barriers to accessing FEMA’s transitional shelter assistance. FEMA’s transitional shelter program must be renewed every 14 days, creating great instability for those relying on it. Because it expires permanently six months after the initial disaster declaration, transitional shelter will create severe housing instability for many households. Moreover, hotels participating in FEMA’s transitional shelter program often charge daily “resort” fees, require security deposits, and require that displaced households have credit cards – all of which are barriers for low income households that have already depleted any savings that they may have had and that are often unbanked or underbanked. Without DHAP, displaced, low income families often have little choice but to move into uninhabitable or overcrowded homes, stay at shelters, or sleep in their cars or on the streets. According to The Boston Herald and Mass Live, there are numerous accounts of individuals who were unable to access FEMA’s transitional housing assistance that later needed emergency hospital care after returning to mold-infested homes. Families with transitional housing vouchers have also been turned away from hotels and are living in unsanitary “tent cities” because they had no place to go. Before HUD can stand up its DHAP program, however, FEMA must enter into an interagency agreement with HUD. While FEMA has the authority to do this without any further state action, the agency has been reticent to do so without a request from your office. We urge you to request that FEMA enter into an interagency agreement with HUD immediately to allow HUD to stand up its DHAP program to serve eligible hurricane survivors in the state. In Massachusetts, we suffer from a severe shortage of affordable rental homes. Even before the storm, there were only 46 affordable and available homes for 100 families with extremely low incomes in Massachusetts. Cities like Boston and Springfield have even fewer affordable and available homes, with less than 40 homes for every 100 extremely low-income households. The damage caused by Hurricane Maria means that there is even less supply and more demand. For that reason, we urge you to request other targeted federal housing and community development resources that can be used to rebuild our communities and ensure that the current affordable rental housing crisis across the state is not made worse. This includes a special allocation of four specific housing programs: the National Housing Trust Fund, a new federal resource designed specifically to address the shortage of affordable rental housing for people with the greatest needs; Low Income Housing Tax Credits, along with broadly supported modifications to increase efficiency and expand the program’s reach to the lowest income households; HOME Investment Partnerships program funding; and New Markets Tax Credits. DHAP and these targeted resources are necessary to ensure that the housing recovery is complete, equitable, and speedy.

  • Say No To Repealing No-Fault Auto Insurance In Michigan!
I am starting this petition because this is at least the 3rd time in my 10-year anniversary of our family's car accident that greedy politicians have tried to change, cap, or just plainly ELIMINATE Michigan's No-Fault auto insurance program. I have lost my job, mobility, and the income that could have been possible because my husband retired early to help take care of me. Those are the realities of a traumatic injury caused by a car accident. Watch TV for a couple of hours and count all the commercials for insurance companies. I think these agencies are making money regardless of the survivor's claims. Thanks for your support.

  • Class Action Lawsuit Against The Failed Enforcement of Marijuana Prohibition
It is time to invoke the enactment of a class action lawsuit on behalf of all Americans, nationwide, directed towards those who continue to enforce unscientific, unconstitutional, and unjust marijuana prohibition laws.  With the majority of Americans, scientists, and doctors in favor of legalization, the time has come to take action against those responsible for this nonsensical calamity.  No American should be persecuted, nor should they be prosecuted, for engaging in marijuana usage whether is be for medicinal or recreational purposes.  There is no shortage of scientific evidence supporting the reasoning behind the enactment of this lawsuit; any responsible government official who enforces any law that denies science in favor of unfactual and bias untruths is a direct cause of permanent distrust of government.  No American should fear nor should they distrust the government; it is the government who should fear the American people. We must end this ineffective and redundant government abuse on millions Americans and their families; these people are not criminals, nor do they pose or present any dangers to themselves or the general public.  Every American should be afforded the same rights no matter the state in which they reside; ending marijuana prohibition is the only way to assure that no Americans are subjected to political harassment. We must not allow our government to take advantage of, destroy, or devastate even one more American life. Let us enact a class action lawsuit against the United States Attorney General Jefferson Beauregard Sessions and all government personnel who share responsibility in the continuous enforcement of cannabis prohibition.
