• Add your name: Denounce Senate Republicans for passing Trump's tax scam
In the early hours of December 2, Senate Republicans voted almost entirely down party lines for a massively corrupt scam designed to finance enormous tax cuts for millionaires, billionaires and large corporations at the expense of working families. Tennessee Senator Bob Corker was the lone Republican to oppose the bill. Every Democrat voted no. In doing so, they have taken a pivotal step towards redistributing wealth upwards and further stratifying income inequality for the next decade, at least. In fact, they fell over themselves for this bill. For example: Sens. Daines and Johnson abandoned working class families in their states to negotiate tax breaks that benefit...wait for it...their own, personal interests; Sen. Murkowski voted to end cancer treatments for Medicare patients in order to destroy wilderness that indigenous Alaskans rely on and have worked hard to protect; Sen. Collins took a promise as binding for...no one is really sure what she gained by believing Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell at his word but she definitely helped strip away a crucial portion of Obamacare; Sen. Flake decided that corporate tax breaks were more important than his career-long dedication to lowering the deficit. The list goes on. Senate Republicans rushed an unpopular bill with devastating consequences for the everyday people they represent. McConnell didn't even slow down enough to allow senators to read the legislation before voting. Once again, they have proven themselves amoral and contemptible. Add your name: Shame on Senate Republicans. The tax plan proves once again that Republicans are unfit to govern.

  • Stop Tax Reform for the Rich and Corporations
The Senate's rush to vote on a lengthy bill that would not even be permitted to be read in its entirety before voting, a motion made and denied, is a prime example of why We the People are fed up with our Congress who refuse to listen to their constituents. It is evident that a "win at any costs" is more important to Congress than the substance of that bill and who it will hurt. Any Tax Reform Bill that sunsets for individuals while tax breaks remain in perpetuity for Corporations will not be supported by us, the people. While reducing the tax rates for corporations is said to create jobs, a statement not supported by most economists and not agreed upon by the CEOs of major corporations as they admit to using their tax savings for dividend payouts and corporate stock buybacks. There must be a guarantee or they should not receive the benefit and certainly not permanently. The tax breaks for corporations should be as small as individuals, no more, and there should be a guarantee that corporations that take advantage of these tax breaks will have to demonstrate job creations by the same percentage. We do not support an increase in the standard deduction while eliminating the personal exemption which negates families of 4+. The bill should not include any repeal any part of the ACA. A tax bill should only be permitted if the CBO scores it with a net zero cost.

  • Injured workers in New York say #NoCutstoComp this Holiday Season
New York State Workers’ Compensation Board: Thank you for listening to the tens of thousands of petitions, letters, calls, and comments, the New York State Workers’ Compensation Board and withdrawing the harmful proposal to cuts on workers’ compensation. This November 22nd, 2017 set of proposed guidelines eliminates the prior proposals around company-assigned doctors; the list of injuries that would no longer be covered; and the 97% benefit cuts for some injuries. The new set of proposed guidelines does what democracy should and meaningfully responds to the widespread opposition to benefit cuts from injured workers, elected officials, labor unions, community organizations, and attorneys and eliminated their widespread cuts to the system. Despite the significant improvements to the previous proposal, we continue to have concerns around some reductions that should be eliminated from your proposals. The recent proposal, despite its many improvements, also includes potential cuts on knee, hip, and shoulder replacements. While these cuts are not drastic in number, they are significant for every injured worker who has the misfortune of being injured on the job with these injuries that have been reduced by up to 25 percent. We urge the Board to consider eliminating any and all cuts to injured workers in this current proposal; any cut, regardless of how slight, should never be a consideration. Thank you again for listening to our comments, and thank you in particular to Chair Clarissa Rodriguez for your hard work in creating a proposal that works for New Yorkers. We will continue to advocate for a workers’ compensation system that works for all injured workers, including low-wage workers and immigrant workers with limited English capacity. We hope you will join us as we work to create a better system for all New Yorkers.

  • SAVE THE CULVER BOULEVARD MEDIAN PARK - AGAIN!
The bulldozing of the Culver Median Park that seemed to be prevented three years ago (our Move On petition then was noticed by the city) has now been combined with an urban storm water capture project that is part of a larger area plan to clean up water getting to the ocean. This environmentally important goal is, however, being used as an excuse to fast track the combined projects, limiting the time for, and responsiveness to, important public concerns about serious local impacts and loss of the trees. The public works department believes they have a done deal. The project is very over-scaled for the small area of the median park and the devil is in the details. Thus our long petition addressing those vital details

  • A.G Eric Schneiderman stop GOP Tax Bill
The GOP bill seems to be in clear violation of equal protection. That may be a broad stroke, but this bill clearly will harm millions of Americans while benefiting very few. AG Schneiderman has taken on hard fight before and hopefully his office will bring suit and help defeat this monstrous bill before it has a chance to decimate the middle and working classes of the country.
