For many Americans, the American dream includes many years of graduate school and extremely frugal living along the journey to a Ph.D. Traditionally, in a great many fields (such as biology, physics, chemistry, and mathematics), the only way this has been possible is through teaching and/or research assistantships, which grant graduate students with a small stipend (in the ~$20K-$30K/year range) to live. This Republican move will almost certainly guarantee that middle and lower class highly talented and intelligent people will be locked out of higher education.

My Grandson, Marty W. McMillan Jr. was set up and murdered, and to date, we don't have closure or his remains. He went to meet a girl he met on PlentyOfFish, and he never returned. We reported this to the police on April 22, 2017, and they would not file his case until they said for three days. We tried to explain to them that he would not contact any family members for days in at a time. He did not report to work, and to his PO officer, not talk to any of his friends, and not answer his phone that was not his behavior. His father had to cry to them after going to the precinct to check to see if they had heard anything. They had not assigned his case at all to any detective. That day they decided to appoint a detective that day. They came to my house to ask me questions. I told them how he went to work that day, that was a Saturday, and we thought he was over his father house, and his father thought he was over my house. He had not been to either that was on a Thursday morning. So he had been missing since that Saturday, and neither of us knew. I told them he had not talked or text his mother and he texted her every day. They got information from me. I was told by them not to file a stolen car report let them see what they could find out. However, days went by, and I decided to submit a stolen car report. We then find out they had not assigned the case to the detective that came to my house. The fact had not been assign to any detective. Then it was finally given to a detective in weeks later, and then again a different detective came to my house. The first detective that came to my house told me not to call his car stolen. However, they kept saying to me when I call they had heard nothing. My daughter lives in Charlotte NC, and she drove here after work every Friday evening, and we looked for him every weekend. I searched every day. We went everywhere putting up flyers, all over DC and Maryland. We met a person that was a missing exploited children activist, and he started to communicate with us. We were going to searches, knocking on doors in the neighborhood his car that I found. One day I called the detectives to asked them had they heard anything, he said he got a call tip Marty car was somewhere in Bowie Maryland. I went there the address was not a proper address. I kept searching during the week and my family I searched on the weekends. We drove all nights and days. I called the detective and asked have you heard anything, he told me the car pinged twice and told me the area it has pinged. That was how I found his car. The police did not respond either time to the pinged. I drove the city he said, me it pings, and I saw the car. I called them to come, to check to make sure it was his car and it was. I knew it was his car had the temp tags still on it. People were sitting out front where the car was parked, and I was afraid to get out of my car to check. Was told to stay in the car and wait until they got there. It took them at least 40 minutes, or so I had to wait. I called them to let them know I think I found his car. They took fingerprints, and I had the car towed to my house. I cover it and make sure it stayed intact. I did not want to move anything I felt it was more they should check. I kept asking them to come and check more may be able to find something more from the car. It took them a month to his car and checked it out more. Time went on my daughter decided to call the captain at the police department and talk with her about how she did not feel she was getting the best action taken done by them. The captain did and found out that the detective was not doing anything for this case he should have been doing. She apologized and assigned a different detective to the situation. She reprimanded him for his negligence actions. However, this is now two months later. The new detective came and asked me questions and agreed everything handled wrong. He would be taking the case, and we started over again. My daughter did all the footwork and all the research to find out the person name he had communicated with last, the real girl name he met on PlentlyOfFish dating site; I found his car. We gave him all of the evidence we found out gave them the case. He did make the vehicle and retook fingerprints but the finger came back smeared and had to do DNA, and we had to wait for another for this. The DNA came back, but nothing has updated or done to date everything fell through the cracks, and we still don't have anything, and he has been gone and presume deceased and can find his remains. First of all, if they had done what they needed to do in the beginning, we might be able to find him. If they had gone after the car, they might be able to get people that were driving his car to talk. We gave them the evidence, and they let it sat before they took action. Should have evaluated his case in the beginning and involved the FBI could have utilized better resources. They did not apply the rules to Marty case from the beginning when I to them my grandson would not just walk away from his life and family. Someone should be held accountable, and Marty case should be with the FBI, he met a girl on PlentyofFish a dating site that causes him his life. It now seems the case has run cold and we may never know who killed my grandson. This issue should be an investigated, and rules should have been applied to the person such as Marty William McMillan Jr. case and might not save his life but at least get the killers off the street and stop dating site from being used for criminal activity. Marty was set up and murdered by meeting someone on PlentyofFish, and the FBI was not brought into the case and should have been from the start.

My grandson was murdered by someone that he met on a dating site. Dating sites need to be secured. He was only 22, just a kid and he met this girl that he thought was a nice girl. He went to meet her and Lords only know what he was confronted by. He never returned. His remains have not been found. Not only that, other people have been murdered and robbed by going to met people out there. It has been in the news several times for this in all states. They are well known for this type of criminal activity on their site. However, nothing has been done about this. The owners of these should add security application to monitor and make sure criminal activities are not occurring on their site, such as, make sure of addresses, phone numbers, and to include pictures identification to be used to sign up on these dating sites. The owners and the investors can add all types of technical protocol to the site as well as post notices of the dangers to be aware of with a warning blurb. A statement of the facts to educate the public and notices of how to obtain knowledge of the person they are communicating with out there. If a person ends up missing after going on dates out there it can be easily traced back to the person/s that they were communicating with. Implement policies and procedures for verification of identification and not be able to use fraudulent names such as with signing up for Facebook. If a person ends up missing or murdered it can be traced easily. There is no warning for people to be aware of this type of activity that is going on before signing up for these sites. People are losing their lives and it has been in the news many times. Yet nothing has been changed to help to prevent criminals from continuing to use these sites to set up people. Also, people have to sign and agree to these policies to be on their sites. Because if this is proof that a person was murdered for using these site that company is liable to be sued.

Inadequate staffing at Cornell Health is putting students at risk with an average wait time of 4-5 weeks to get an initial counseling appointment and 5+ weeks to get a psychiatry appointment. The health and well being of Cornell students should be the number one priority of Cornell Health and a diverse group health care providers must be hired immediately.

The NRA has bought Congress for years, preventing commonsense gun control laws from passing. It's past time to throw their money back and stand up for the lives of your constituents. My MoC should represent me and my neighbors, not the NRA.

Access to firearms is the single most common predictor of a woman being murdered by a current or former partner, regardless of employment status, education level or relationship status. It's increasingly evident is the flaw in our nation's background check system. When records prohibiting domestic abusers from gun possession are excluded, dangerous individuals, like the shooter in Sutherland Springs, Texas, are able to pass a background check, obtain guns, and do harm to our communities. Our laws must keep deadly weapons out of domestic abusers' hands. As advocates for victims of domestic violence, the National Domestic Violence Hotline knows far too intimately how dangerous firearms are at the hands of an abusive partner – whether the abuse is physical, emotional, verbal, digital and/or financial. We can all agree that such dangerous individuals should not be permitted access to firearms, and prevention of future tragedies cannot be accomplished without demanding that our elected leaders take action. Congress must ensure law enforcement officers have access to the information they need to identify dangerous individuals. And we demand that current federal gun laws are expanded so that the prohibited purchaser category includes current and former dating partners because the threat of harm is just as dangerous coming from a dating partner as it is coming from a married one.

Congress needs to act before hard-working families have their lives torn apart. Taking away TPS status or letting it expire would throw hundreds of thousands of families into chaos as mothers and fathers lose their legal status to stay in the country. We could be forced to decide whether to divide our families or to take our children to dangerous and unfamiliar countries. TPS recipients are mothers, neighbors, caregivers, business owners and community members. We are parents to 273,000 children who have lived in the United States their whole lives and know no other home. Removing TPS recipients from the country is inhumane and makes no economic sense. It would cost employers nearly $1 billion in immediate turnover costs. It would cost our country an estimated $164 billion in gross domestic product over 10 years. It would destabilize housing markets. It would be especially devastating to fragile communities that are struggling to recover from hurricanes in Florida and Texas, where TPS recipients are on the frontlines of rebuilding communities. Please join me in asking Congress to keep the families of 273,000 children together by protecting TPS for 320,000 immigrants who currently have legal status in the U.S. because their countries are devastated by war and disaster.

There are two bills before Congress NOW that will make this all legal: S.19 (The Mobile Now Act) and S.1988 (The SPEED Act). Will you join me and Americans for Responsible Technology in Opposing S.19, and S.1988? The wireless industry has been "secretly" introducing legislation in the U.S. Congress designed to take away every American city's authority to control where Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile locate their cell towers. I don’t want a cell tower installed on a street lamp outside my home! The FCC is streamlining the deployment of thousands of 4G small cell towers NOW on an unprecedented scale (and paving the way for hundreds of thousands more 5G antennas in the future) and this could be happening in your neighborhood if you don’t act NOW and contact your member of Congress! These industry bills will allow powerful wireless transmitters to be installed (along with their noisy and large power equipment) to any utility pole or street lamp in any public right of way in America. Most utility poles or street lamps will become cell towers on every block leaving the public with no input OR legal recourse, and vulnerable to privacy and security risks. The public has not agreed to cell towers in their front yards! Real estate values will significantly decline near base stations and antennas. All of us, as taxpayers, will be footing the bill while the telecom companies profit HUGELY. Contrary to assurances by AT&T and Verizon, the “safety” of wireless exposure has NEVER been proven and there is growing science showing increased health risks, especially for children and pregnant women. I worry about the science showing health risks. Do you? Safety limits have not been updated since the 1990s and the FCC’s guidelines were derived from industry, and there is no monitoring or compliance testing of cell towers. A recent $25 million study by the U.S. National Toxicology Program of the National Institutes of Health found increased incidences of brain cancer, malignant tumors of the heart and DNA damage in laboratory animals from microwave wireless exposure levels the FCC considers "safe"! Please sign this petition (with your full legal name) as it will be sent to Congressional leaders in Washington D.C, urging them to oppose S.19, and S.1988 and put a stop to the massive deployment of cell towers.

Climate Change is hurting everyone - and people in Puerto Rico are suffering the worst. Let's not make the grave error of rebuilding their power grid with dangerous fossil fuels.
