As a middle class tax payer, I'm outraged that we continue to pay higher taxes, lose deductions, be forced to pay for our own healthcare, while corporations and the super rich continue to get a free ride.

Donald Trump’s new “tax reform” plan would be a massive windfall for special interests and the super-wealthy like himself and his family. But because Trump won’t release his tax returns, we have no way of knowing how much it would benefit him, his children, or his companies. Congress should refuse to vote on Trump’s tax plan until the American people find out exactly how much he stands to gain. Trump broke with decades of bipartisan precedent by refusing to release his tax returns during his presidential run (and refusing to place his assets in a blind trust after winning). And there are already plenty examples of him and his family personally profiting from the presidency. But Trump’s new tax plan could take that self-dealing into overdrive -- while Americans are forced to judge it without any idea how much passing it would benefit Trump himself. This is exactly why presidents of both parties have shared their tax returns with the public -- so that voters can hold them accountable and evaluate conflicts of interest. But instead, Trump wants to rewrite our nation’s tax laws while keeping his own business dealings secret. Just one example -- Trump himself has admitted a personal motivation in pushing to end the estate tax, telling senators on a phone call that his accountant told him he’d "get killed" if it weren’t repealed. There are countless opportunities for Trump to avoid paying millions in taxes -- and we can’t know for sure what they are without seeing his tax returns. Everyone has a right to know, and we all deserve basic transparency from the President of the United States. So before Congress holds a vote on Trump’s tax plan, it ought to demand the President give the public a clear picture of his background, experience, and business interests. I have lost Friends and Family to senseless gun violence.

Save Florida's tree canopies by allowing cities and municipalities to maintain their individualized and independently-designed tree codes and ordinances as already written. Do not force SB574 and HB521 on communities who have a vested interest in maintaining their tree canopies and inventory of trees.

The American people should be able to safely live their daily lives without the pervasive fear of gun violence. Our children deserve no less.

In 30 States and the District of Columbia, voters have the option of no excuse absentee voting, also referred to as optional vote by mail. To date, Pennsylvania is NOT one of those states. But you have the power to change this by signing this petition. This petition to members of the Pennsylvania state legislature urges our elected officials to enact legislation that would authorize optional vote by mail. Sign the Petition to clearly convey that our voting system should be set up so that every eligible citizen has a fair chance to vote without imposing artificial obstacles to make it difficult.

The tax bill proposed and being pushed through in the House of Representatives is again an attempt to balance the budget on the middle and lower class citizens and give the VERY rich a tax cut. Any tax cut they offer the middle and lower classes is set with an expiration date and the cuts for the uber rich is permanent.

We’ve all been personally affected; my fellow citizens are dying from gun violence at a rate that is much higher than in any other developed nation.

Equifax must be compelled by Congress to contact all people who had their information compromised on Equifax's watch. Equifax must create a victims clearinghouse to provide information to victims regarding remedial actions they should take. There must be no cost borne by victims to remedy Equifax's mistakes. No taxpayer funds are to be used toward these actions; the cost must be borne solely by Equifax. The responsibility to cure this data breach must fall on Equifax, not the victims.

The good that universities do would simply not be possible without graduate students. Graduate students already face a huge financial burden--they survive on small stipends while teaching classes and assisting with research on top of their own studies. Often they're forced to take on extra jobs and/or debt to make it through. And yet they're a vital engine of our intellectual life. They deserve our respect, our thanks, and our protection. And if Congress makes graduate school impossible to pursue for the many, this country is going to lose out on a generation of thinkers.

The Census Bureau usually starts advertising its upcoming census 3 or 4 years ahead of time. The next census is 2020, and the bureau is not being funded enough. Allocations of funds depend on accurate Census numbers. Accuracy here is important, especially for underserved populations.
