Funding the future—by increasing per student funding from just over $10,000 per year to $20,000 per student by the year 2020 (20 by 20!) I believe that medical marijuana should be accessible to people suffering with illness and disease, and it's evident to see that in states that medical marijuana is legal, there are only positive effects that have come to the surface. Less people will be struggling and everyone deserves the treatment of medical marijuana if it benefits their conditions. Banning bump stocks would not be enough. Bump stocks enabled the Las Vegas gunman to mow down close to 600 people in a span of minutes, but even without those gun attachments, his semi-automatic weapons would have been able to discharge enough bullets rapidly enough for unprecedented carnage. Much more than the accessory, it was the guns that enabled the horrific level of violence. Here are key facts: Military-style assault weapons are used in the majority of mass shootings in America, and the majority of mass shooters obtain their deadly weapons legally due to our lax laws. Enough is enough. In addition to action on bump stocks, we demand from our elected leaders real progress on gun safety, including banning military-style assault rifles and high-capacity magazines, and passage of universal background checks on gun sales. We reject the gun lobby’s false message that guns make people safer, because they don’t. We reject its assertion that gun rights supersede all other rights, including the right for our families and communities to be safe and free from gun violence. Most of all, we reject the gun lobby’s efforts to normalize firearms in our daily lives by giving gun owners access to as many guns as they want, and insisting that they be permitted to bring them everywhere, including restaurants, public parks, day care center, schools...and hotel rooms. There is sufficient indication from President Trump’s actions and speech that he no longer has the mental ability to Perform his Constitutional Duties. The President appears unable to maintain attention to the subject of which he is speaking when not reading a prepared statement. He seems to not remember the details of conversations just a few hours later, and his recollection of those conversations seem to be totally incongruent with others who were a part of those same conversations. Literally thousands of Mental Health Professionals have stated publicly that our President seems to be exhibiting sign of either mental illness or dementia. Additionally, the Political Positions the President is taking now are so opposite to his previously stated positions as to indicate he is no longer able to think logically.

Ranked choice voting (RCV) allows voters to rank candidates on the ballot, not just pick one -- making their voices truly heard. RCV discourages attack ads, eliminates the "spoiler effect," and ensures that election winners have the support of a majority of voters. RCV allows us to vote our hopes, not our fears. In 2016, Maine voters decisively passed the Maine Ranked Choice Voting Initiative (Question 5). Since then, the Legislature has been debating whether they want to respect the will of the voters, and even considered repealing RCV. Now, they're debating it again. Democracy is built on the simple idea that elections should reflect the will of the people. Now, some officials seem to think that voters can’t be trusted. I am a native Californian, and many of my friends have homes in Napa, Sonoma, and Santa Rosa. Many have lost everything, and though I can't help stop what has happened, I can try and help us all make smarter decisions in the future about fire abatement.

The NRA is complicit in the gun violence that is destroying our society. Our Representatives in Congress who have accepted their money are hypocritical and they contribute to the problem.

It's unacceptable that our country can't pass sensible gun laws that would save laws in the wake of mass shootings. Greg Walden is being given money by the NRA to downvote any laws relating to gun regulation. It's time he stops and faces his own people - not the organization that bribes him - before I or anyone else lose their lives to a senseless tragedy of a mass-shooting that could be prevented.

I am all for de-gunning the United States. I am uncomfortable with a representative that is beholden to the gun lobby.

The public does not need military style weapons

The only way to get adequate protection from gun violence for our citizens is to regulate guns. We regulate high chairs, lawn darts, seat belt usage, and a myriad of other items, many of which are far less deadly than guns. Those who represent us must stop accepting bribes from the NRA.
