Jaime Herrera-Beutler STOP taking NRA $In 2005 we lost a family member to gun violence. He was my spouses former brother-in-law. He and his wife were visiting a friend in a nice neighborhood when a home invasion caused him to attempt to flee to protect his wife. They made it into the back yard where he was shot in the back as he pushed his wife into the cover of shrubbery. She watched him die and then fled as the gunman went back into the house. To this day she is still deeply affected. Her husband was a retired Army recruiter. These guarantees were brought to justice and we attended the trial but it will happen again. There are too many guns in the hands of irresponsible as well as criminal members of our society. I also lost a step brother, a well loved coach and high school teacher, to suicide with the Colt 45 he inherited from his father. Gun laws must change. I know I am not the only one to have these losses.676 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Lynne Perry

Create "Trick or Treat Day" on the Last Saturday of October! The Anna and Raven Show from Star 99.9 understands the frustration of both parents and homeowners when trick or treating falls on a school night. Many love this tradition but when it lands on a day during the week, it becomes a burden for parents and homeowners alike. By creating a "Trick or Treat Day" across Connecticut as the last Saturday of October, then the inconvenience is alleviated and those who celebrate October 31st as a religious holiday can continue with their annual traditions. We believe that starting Connecticut's "Trick or Treat Day" in October of 2018 gives state residents plenty of time to adapt to the new day of celebration and candy giving!799 of 800 SignaturesCreated by The Anna and Raven Show

Don't slash Medicare / Medicaid to cut taxes for the rich!President Trump and Republicans are pushing a trojan horse through Congress. This trojan horse is a budget bill that will deliver massive tax cuts to the wealthy and big corporations and pay for those tax cuts by slashing health care and other important programs. Over the next 10 years, the U.S. House of Representatives budget bill would cut $2 trillion from Medicaid, Medicare, Affordable Care Act subsidies, and other health care programs. The U.S. Senate bill would cut $1.8 trillion from these programs. 80% of the tax cuts funded would go to the wealthiest 1% of Americans.486 of 500 SignaturesCreated by Sunjeev Bery

Condemn Trump's attack on the free pressOur democracy relies on a free, fair, and adversarial press to hold power accountable. It’s one of the reasons we have a First Amendment. But President Trump continues to escalate his attacks on journalists -- recently threatening to take away NBC’s broadcast license for reporting what he claims is “Fake News.” To be perfectly clear, Trump has absolutely no right or ability to make good on this threat. The law doesn’t let the President revoke broadcast licenses.. If Trump tried to, it would be blatant and unacceptable intervention in the decisions of the Federal Communications Commission, an independent agency. But we can’t allow this President to continue to bully and attack journalists for doing their jobs -- just because they’re reporting news he doesn’t like. It’s not just NBC stations that will find this threat chilling, but also smaller independent stations around the country who might lack the resources to fight back. This isn’t the first time President Trump has attacked journalists he believed were treating him unfairly. During the campaign, Trump pledged to “open up” libel laws to make it easier to sue news organizations -- and earlier this year he branded them an “enemy of the American People.” This sort of attack on the free press undermines our democracy. We are not an authoritarian state -- Americans expect the media to hold Donald Trump and anyone else with political power accountable. That’s why it’s so important to take this pledge today to oppose Donald Trump’s attacks on the free press and stand in solidarity with journalists that hold Trump accountable. Please add your name today.664 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Common Cause
