• Remove Taxes on Essentials for Senior Citizens In Illinois
The State of Illinois recently ranked in the top 10 states with the highest tax burden in the country. People living on fixed incomes are trapped between a rock and a hard place. This exemption from certain sales taxes for qualified senior citizens will provide real relief for the men and women who have worked hard and paved the way for future generations in Illinois.

  • Don't slash Medicare / Medicaid to cut taxes for the rich!
President Trump and Republicans are pushing a trojan horse through Congress. This trojan horse is a budget bill that will deliver massive tax cuts to the wealthy and big corporations and pay for those tax cuts by slashing health care and other important programs. Over the next 10 years, the U.S. House of Representatives budget bill would cut $2 trillion from Medicaid, Medicare, Affordable Care Act subsidies, and other health care programs. The U.S. Senate bill would cut $1.8 trillion from these programs. 80% of the tax cuts funded would go to the wealthiest 1% of Americans.

  • MN CD3 Representative Erik Paulsen: Stop supporting the NRA
My dear father-in-law was a life member of the NRA, and the kindest person I have ever known. He would never never understand this carnage and is probably weeping up in Heaven right now. Yes, now is the time to stop the devastating control of the NRA.

  • Condemn Trump's attack on the free press
Our democracy relies on a free, fair, and adversarial press to hold power accountable. It’s one of the reasons we have a First Amendment. But President Trump continues to escalate his attacks on journalists -- recently threatening to take away NBC’s broadcast license for reporting what he claims is “Fake News.” To be perfectly clear, Trump has absolutely no right or ability to make good on this threat. The law doesn’t let the President revoke broadcast licenses.. If Trump tried to, it would be blatant and unacceptable intervention in the decisions of the Federal Communications Commission, an independent agency. But we can’t allow this President to continue to bully and attack journalists for doing their jobs -- just because they’re reporting news he doesn’t like. It’s not just NBC stations that will find this threat chilling, but also smaller independent stations around the country who might lack the resources to fight back. This isn’t the first time President Trump has attacked journalists he believed were treating him unfairly. During the campaign, Trump pledged to “open up” libel laws to make it easier to sue news organizations -- and earlier this year he branded them an “enemy of the American People.” This sort of attack on the free press undermines our democracy. We are not an authoritarian state -- Americans expect the media to hold Donald Trump and anyone else with political power accountable. That’s why it’s so important to take this pledge today to oppose Donald Trump’s attacks on the free press and stand in solidarity with journalists that hold Trump accountable. Please add your name today.

  • I Support the Schools LA Students Deserve
Funding the future—by increasing per student funding from just over $10,000 per year to $20,000 per student by the year 2020 (20 by 20!) California is 46th out of the 50 states in per student funding. Supporting students— by reducing class sizes, hiring more nurses, counselors, social workers and teacher librarians. Hiring more special education teachers and specialists and by investing in dual language programs, ensuring student access to ethnic studies, visual & performing arts, early education and career & technical education. Defending the teaching profession— LAUSD should attract and retain high-quality educators through competitive salaries, quality healthcare, support for LAUSD employees pursuing careers in education and by ensuring healthy working conditions Empowering our communities—by investing in Community Schools, requiring charter schools to provide equal access, transparency, and due process rights and use the district’s leverage to advance affordable housing and support for homeless students, access to green space on campuses, support for immigrant families, access to public transportation without “stop and frisk” searches, & an end to psychologically damaging “random” searches of students I stand in support of these critical demands for the Schools LA Students Deserve!

  • Making Medical Marijuana legal in NY state
I believe that medical marijuana should be accessible to people suffering with illness and disease, and it's evident to see that in states that medical marijuana is legal, there are only positive effects that have come to the surface. Less people will be struggling and everyone deserves the treatment of medical marijuana if it benefits their conditions. Lets all come together and show that we are capable of making a change, and stand up for those who need it the most!

  • NO to bump stocks, and NO to military-style assault weapons and high-cap magazines!
Banning bump stocks would not be enough. Bump stocks enabled the Las Vegas gunman to mow down close to 600 people in a span of minutes, but even without those gun attachments, his semi-automatic weapons would have been able to discharge enough bullets rapidly enough for unprecedented carnage. Much more than the accessory, it was the guns that enabled the horrific level of violence. Here are key facts: Military-style assault weapons are used in the majority of mass shootings in America, and the majority of mass shooters obtain their deadly weapons legally due to our lax laws. Enough is enough. In addition to action on bump stocks, we demand from our elected leaders real progress on gun safety, including banning military-style assault rifles and high-capacity magazines, and passage of universal background checks on gun sales. We reject the gun lobby’s false message that guns make people safer, because they don’t. We reject its assertion that gun rights supersede all other rights, including the right for our families and communities to be safe and free from gun violence. Most of all, we reject the gun lobby’s efforts to normalize firearms in our daily lives by giving gun owners access to as many guns as they want, and insisting that they be permitted to bring them everywhere, including restaurants, public parks, day care center, schools...and hotel rooms. We reject the gun lobby's "guns everywhere" vision of America that conditions people so that the first thing they think to do in response to anything is to reach for their firearms. This is not anti-gun, this is pro-gun safety. Please join us and sign on now.

  • Invoke 25th Amendment and remove Trump
There is sufficient indication from President Trump’s actions and speech that he no longer has the mental ability to Perform his Constitutional Duties. The President appears unable to maintain attention to the subject of which he is speaking when not reading a prepared statement. He seems to not remember the details of conversations just a few hours later, and his recollection of those conversations seem to be totally incongruent with others who were a part of those same conversations. Literally thousands of Mental Health Professionals have stated publicly that our President seems to be exhibiting sign of either mental illness or dementia. Additionally, the Political Positions the President is taking now are so opposite to his previously stated positions as to indicate he is no longer able to think logically.
