Ranked choice voting (RCV) allows voters to rank candidates on the ballot, not just pick one -- making their voices truly heard. RCV discourages attack ads, eliminates the "spoiler effect," and ensures that election winners have the support of a majority of voters. RCV allows us to vote our hopes, not our fears. In 2016, Maine voters decisively passed the Maine Ranked Choice Voting Initiative (Question 5). Since then, the Legislature has been debating whether they want to respect the will of the voters, and even considered repealing RCV. Now, they're debating it again. Democracy is built on the simple idea that elections should reflect the will of the people. Now, some officials seem to think that voters can’t be trusted. Sign the petition to tell the Maine legislature to respect the will of the voters!

I am a native Californian, and many of my friends have homes in Napa, Sonoma, and Santa Rosa. Many have lost everything, and though I can't help stop what has happened, I can try and help us all make smarter decisions in the future about fire abatement.

The NRA is complicit in the gun violence that is destroying our society. Our Representatives in Congress who have accepted their money are hypocritical and they contribute to the problem.

It's unacceptable that our country can't pass sensible gun laws that would save laws in the wake of mass shootings. Greg Walden is being given money by the NRA to downvote any laws relating to gun regulation. It's time he stops and faces his own people - not the organization that bribes him - before I or anyone else lose their lives to a senseless tragedy of a mass-shooting that could be prevented.

I am all for de-gunning the United States. I am uncomfortable with a representative that is beholden to the gun lobby.

The public does not need military style weapons

The only way to get adequate protection from gun violence for our citizens is to regulate guns. We regulate high chairs, lawn darts, seat belt usage, and a myriad of other items, many of which are far less deadly than guns. Those who represent us must stop accepting bribes from the NRA.

Representatives in Congress have been bought by the NRA. We, the people are the ones you should be representing. It is time to break the stranglehold the NRA has and pass some common sense gun restrictions. The second amendment did not guarantee every person an arsenal. We have a military and do not need extra military on the streets. Young children being slaughtered were not enough! Will 58 deaths and hundreds injured be enough? It is past time to take care of the people.

It's about out-of-control lobbying (bribing) Congresspeople to vote for whoever's bribing them. He's my representative in Congress but he doesn't answer questions or appear at town halls. Once he did, but he lied a lot.

As a veteran, I am appalled at the strangle hold the NRA has on our congress. Our representatives should not be taking money from the NRA.

We believe it is wrong to sideline players for protesting the systemic injustice against blacks in this country. The best thing the NFL owners could do to return their player to standing during the national anthem is to visibly show the players (and public) that the owners are using their influence to counter Trump's cowardly and racist rhetoric. The damage that Trump's rhetoric (and the owners' complicit inaction) to the players' lives outweighs the benefits of having a good job in the NFL. The players are doing their best to do their job while living in a country with issues larger than their job. The owners should do their job of creating an environment (which includes issues outside their stadiums) that helps their players win games. If the owners refuse to do this, necessitating that some players feel compelled to kneel and be docked time and pay, then we the people of the USA will financially support those players while publically highlighting the injustice those owners perpetuate and in effect show that they have inadequate understandings of how to manage a winning team. We are taught that, and the President provides and example of, hate begets hate. The NFL owners and commissioner seem to have not learned this. Their solution to their perceived problem of their players acts of silent protest against oppression is to apply oppression. Clueless owners are poor managers and cannot ultimately create and support winning teams. Please, you know the players' cause is just and is greater that an issue of simple respect. Support their cause in ways that visibly show you understand that it is difficult for the players to highlight a just cause at the cost of igniting a smaller battle. The players are willing to lose a battle if they believe they must fight to win a war. What is the war the owners are fighting?

Article XIII, Section 13 of the New York State Constitution requires that any District Attorney who fail faithfully to prosecute any case of bribery of any person holding public office in his or her county that comes to his or her knowledge shall be removed by the Governor. Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. has refused to prosecute, among others, Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner, and Harvey Weinstein after making campaign contributions to his office, overruling other prosecutors. Governor Cuomo must remove him from office.
