The Senate was given a 500 page tax bill with written edits to sign within a few hours. This bill which will add an astounding deficit for the future of my children and I want Congress to read this bill. No one could read 500 pages in two hours.

The so called tax bill passed in the dead of night, Friday, December 1, 2017 is a huge transfer of wealth from middle and lower income Americans to the rich. It undermines the individual mandate for the Affordable Care Act, destroys the value of nonprofit organizations, creates a new American aristocracy, eliminates educational tax credits and interest deductions and even opens up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for oil exploration. Republicans have admitted this abysmal piece of legislation was passed for the benefit of rich donors.

We, the undersigned, are in full support of Mrs. Jennifer Salmon. We are calling on Superintendent Lang and the Chelmsford school district to do the following: 1. Immediately reinstate Mrs. Salmon to her teaching position; 2. Expunge any reference to her administrative leave from her personnel file; 3. Write a public apology to Mrs. Salmon for the unfair treatment she has endured; and 4. Address the ongoing student safety concerns at Harrington Elementary School that parents and teachers have raised. Mrs. Salmon is the democratically elected president of the Chelmsford Federation of Teachers. She must be able to continue to serve as an advocate for students and as the voice of educators in Chelmsford without fearing for her job. She is tireless in her efforts on behalf of students and educators and must be immediately allowed to resume that critical work. The issues raised by this incident also go well beyond Mrs. Salmon. All Chelmsford teachers need the freedom to address concerns in their classroom so they can be effective advocates for their students. We urge the superintendent and school district to work with educators to promote a culture of collaboration and mutual respect. The president of our country must be healthy both physically and mentally. In the past, presidents have done this voluntarily; it needs to be a requirement. For the vice president as well. This is not a partisan issue. It just makes good sense.

One of America’s last untouched wild areas could soon be opened up to destructive oil and gas drilling. In an unprecedented move, Congress has snuck a provision in their tax bill that opens the door to drilling in Alaska’s Arctic Refuge.

Americans have a right to know how Congress is spending their tax dollars, and this hush money used to hide deplorable conduct by Members and their staffs is no exception. That's why Congress must immediately pass legislation that prohibits lawmakers from using their Members Representational Allowances -- or any other public funds -- to settle sexual harassment cases. Furthermore, we call on Congressional leadership in both parties to publicly disclose the names of Members of Congress and congressional staff who have used their offices' funds or any other account to pay sexual harassment or misconduct settlements. In doing so, victims' identities must be protected, unless they decide to reveal their names, and the date on which the settlement took place must be kept private to protect victims. The opacity of how Congress handles harassment claims has enabled continued repulsive behavior to occur by Members and staff in the "People's House." Ultimately, if congressional budgets were more transparent, heightened attention to harassment and misconduct settlements may have helped prevent some of these heinous acts. We demand that Congress act now to stop using their taxpayer-funded office budgets from being spent to settle sexual harassment lawsuits -- and publicly disclose the name of all Members who have done so.

President Trump reached a new low this week in tweeting the hateful anti Islamic videos. His actions are dividing our country and alienating foreign allies. Everyone in the country has been affected by the hateful rhetoric of Donald Trump but his recent messages inciting hatred toward Muslims are particularly disturbing as are many of his racist tweets. Twitter must not allow this to continue. For any other user, they would not.

We the undersigned community members formally request that the City of Thousand Oaks DENY Heavenly Fathers Foundation purchase and special use permit the city requires to convert the building at 320 Via Las Brisas to a church from its current use as a Fitness Facility. The local community including Dos Vientos would like to have an opportunity to explore other options that will KEEP THE GYM AND POOL FACILITY in place to maintain and improve the health of ALL COMMUNITY RESIDENTS as originally intended. The Miller Brothers, the City of Thousand Oaks, and private donors have substantially contributed tax dollars and tax free contributions for the benefit of this community Facility. LOSING THIS FACILITY WILL ALSO AFFECT PROPERTY VALUES.
