Ever wonder how JPMorgan Chase Bank makes so much money ($96 BILLION in Revenues in 2013)? One way is through Insufficient Funds Fees. What's most disturbing is HOW Chase accumulates this money: Through the unfair practice of processing any/all checks (highest amounts first, then lowest) BEFORE processing any/all deposits each night. With this policy in place, Chase customers can - if not careful - incur multiple Insufficient Funds (IF) Fees, when these fees could be minimized or negated altogether. How so? Here's an example: Let's say on Thursday night your Chase checking account has a balance of $50 but $1,000 dollars in deposits is set to come through on Friday. You also have two outstanding checks set to come through, one for $40, the other for $60. Chase will FIRST process the $60 check, which will put your balance at $-10 (and you'll be hit with a $34 IF Fee; now your balance is $-44) and THEN process the $40 check, which will extend your balance to $-84 (add another $34 IF Fee). When the dust settles, your checking account balance is at $-118 (and Chase just made $68). Only after that, will Chase process any/all deposits. As alternatives to this current policy, Chase could: A.) Process any/all deposits FIRST and then process any/all checks, or B.) At the very least, if Chase continues to process checks FIRST, do so in the order of lowest-to-highest amounts. Using the example above, if the $40 check was processed FIRST followed by the $60 check, a customer would only incur one $34 IF Fee. Right by my apartment there is an American Apparel billboard that always displays provocative images. I live in a neighborhood with thousands of children who all pass this billboard daily. I am tired of sitting back while companies push the envelope further and further. This needs to be stopped! There is a better way to advertise clothing than demeaning, sensual images that make women into sexual objects.

The NRA is at it again, accusing Obama’s nominee of Surgeon General of being a dangerous “radical” for daring to point out that gun violence like the tragedy at Sandy Hook is a health care issue. Forget that studies clearly support Dr. Vivek Murthy's claim — firearm suicides are the second leading cause of death for Americans under 35, and highest in states with high gun concentrations — Democratic Senators are already cowering in fear of the NRA's political clout even though most Americans disagree with the NRA's positions on every single issue! We have to tell these Senators to represent the interests of the majority of Americans - not this one radical special interest. Call on Senate Democrats to stop kowtowing to the radical pro-gun lobbyists and confirm Dr. Murphy as our next Surgeon General!

Chevron and the FEC just created a loophole big enough to navigate an oil tanker through. It starts in 2012, when Chevron made a $2.5 million donation to a super PAC called the Congressional Leadership Fund, that is reportedly connected to House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and the National Republican Congressional Committee. This should be a big no-no for a corporation that has hundreds of government contracts, because our "pay-to-play" laws prevent companies from obtaining government work by influencing elections. Supposedly. But Chevron wasn't slowed down by pesky campaign laws. Chevron asserted that the entity that made the donation, Chevron Corporation, is separate from the one that holds the contracts, Chevron U.S.A. But Mother Jones explains why that's just slight of hand: "By any normal sense Chevron Corporation and Chevron U.S.A. look like the same company. Chevron USA is a subsidiary of the brand name company. Chevron Corporation owns a 100 percent stake in Chevron U.S.A. They share the same CEO and list the same mailing address." The commission knows the facts. And yet, they bought Chevron's outrageous argument. The FEC must re-evaluate its decision and admit the truth: Chevron broke the rules.

In California—as in many other states—most recipients of the state’s welfare-to-work program receive their monthly checks through an EBT (electronic benefit transfer) card. But each time they use these cards to get cash, the banks charge them an ATM fee. A recent study found that big banks took more than $19 million out of the pockets of poor Californians in 2012. The average Calworks family lives on about $510 per month. Citibank has agreed to waive ATM fees for welfare-to-work recipients who use EBT cards, but the other big banks continue to take money away from low-income families. Sign the petition to Bank of America, Wells Fargo, JPMorgan Chase and the other big banks: Stop ripping off state funds and low-income people with your ATM fees.

The things this man says are dangerous, and inflammatory against a minority population, full of lies and hatred.

We do not denounce the Koch brothers because their wealth of more than $50 billion exceeds the combined wealth of the bottom 40 percent of all the citizens of the United States, or because they run and own one of the largest petrochemical businesses in the world, or because of their right-wing views. The Koch brothers are entitled to their wealth and to their opinions, but when they use their vast wealth to overpower the voices of average Americans, that is unfair and they should be held accountable. They've established a political front group, Americans for Prosperity, and are building their own permanent political machine, including hundreds of full-time staff in at least 32 states. They are pouring money into federal and state races—including more than $30 million already to help Republicans win the Senate this year. The Koch brothers are thereby using their vast wealth to undermine and corrupt our democracy—a shameful betrayal of our nation for which they deserve to be widely denounced. It's time we join our voices together to publicly denounce the Koch brothers and their dangerous, corrupting influence. They may not be swayed by our voices, but when enough of us condemn what they're doing, taking their money will become a political liability.

Apple is a company that earned its beloved reputation by engaging in a competitive marketplace and providing its customers with innovative products. Comcast is a company that earned its reputation as one of the most hated companies by helping create laws that prevent competition and providing expensive low quality products. The result of Comcast’s behavior is that the United States has outdated and overpriced internet. This is an embarrassing situation for the country that invented the internet. Now Comcast is starting to do away with net neutrality, a concept that allowed innovative new companies like Facebook and Google to be created. Comcast’s tactics hurt the American marketplace and the American people. However, Americans recognize that not all companies are created equal and we want Apple to know that we will not tolerate one of our champions partnering with a villain in a race to reduce competition and squeeze the American consumer from the wonderful opportunities that capitalism can provide.

The world is finally beginning to realize that these Pesticides and Herbicides are harmful to human beings. The President of Sri Lanka is one of the few world leaders who has been strong enough to stand up to these powerful Chemical Companies. Hopefully one by one our world leaders will get together to request these companies to do more LONG TERM SAFETY studies before human beings are exposed to these toxic chemicals. WE do not have to prove that these products are safe. Monsanto has to prove that BEFORE they expose us to these chemicals. We SHOULD NOT forget that. My mother and I have been fighting this in court for over 11 years. Even though, we have proven that there were no missing payments, the judge disregarded most of the evidence and granted the banks the right to evict anyway. In the meantime, John Stolarenko, the former president of Eastwood Mortgage Bankers who signed my mothers original loan documents, was convicted of mortgage fraud and served 10 months in prison. JP Morgan Chase/Wells Fargo/MassMutual took over the loan, and picked up where Washington Mutual left off, pushing forward with their attempts to evict my mother and take her home. I was advised on March 20th, by Sabira Bektic of Wells Fargo that she intends to evict my mother onto the street in the cold and that she has already provided paperwork to the sheriff's office.
