• Make Mortgage Lending & Homeownership Fair
Mortgage lending is very bias towards the bank. You can pay on your home for years, fall on hard times and the bank has the right to foreclose and homeowners lose everything.

  • ALEC Accountability and Disclosure
We demand public disclosure on the workings of American Legislative Exchange Council in the state of Oregon and that ALEC operate within the rules of lobbying organizations. Formed in 1973 as a "nonpartisan" group for "conservative state lawmakers" interested in "limited government, free markets, federalism, and individual liberty," ALEC creates model legislation that has resulted in the introduction of 1,000 bills a year at the state level with 20 percent becoming law, its website claims. ALEC finances trips for state lawmakers to learn about model legislation it pushes at the state level while connecting them to corporations from big tobacco, oil and for-profit prisons. We cannot allow our democratic process to be undermined by the secretive manipulations of corporations. Over the last several years ALEC has successfully promoted legislation to eliminate collective bargaining, require voter identification, and allow for school vouchers to be used. Wisconsin and Arizona are both engaged in a debate over collective bargaining legislation that is similar to model legislation that ALEC has been promoting. Law makers in Arizona and Wisconsin have introduced legislation requiring transparency on the workings of ALEC in their states. Arizona state. Rep. Steve Farley (D-Tucson) and Wisconsin state Rep. Mark Pocan (D-Madison) have separately put forward legislation designed to disclose ALEC's funding sources. The bills, called the Alec Accountability Act and pending in their respective Republican-controlled legislatures, would redefine ALEC as a lobbying organization since it develops model legislation. "It is a pretty big lobbying group," Farley told HuffPost. "People deserve to know who is funding ALEC," added Farley, who has collaborated with Pocan as well as discussed the issue with legislators in other states. Among the two bills' provisions would be an attempt to define any organization promoting model legislation as a lobbying group and require disclosure of its funding sources. Pocan described ALEC as a "dating service" matching model legislation with lawmakers in various states, according to a Center for Media and Democracy release.

  • Governor Haley: Stop lying about voter fraud
Democratic legislators are becoming as rare as hen's teeth in the SC legislature. Governor Haley should be promoting issues that will improve the lives of SC residents and protect democracy. Instead, she serves her GOP corporate backers while the people of SC are cut out of the loop by this prevailing system of crony capitalism. Voter suppresion is an egregious method the GOP employs in it's agenda to serve their corporate masters, and it must be stopped.

  • Target Should Let Its Employees Use Their Employee Discounts With Food Stamps
Target employees get a 10% discount but only if they pay with cash, check, or a Target Red Card. Up till recently employees could also use their discount with their food stamp benefits. Many Target retail employees are below the poverty line and get food stamp benefits. It is simply unfair to charge the poorest employees more, than those employees who can actually afford to buy food with a redcard, or cash.

  • FORECLOSURE FRAUD PETITION
The Mortgage Loan Crisis, which led to the current financial crisis and recession, has lead to a Foreclosure Crisis in the County of Santa Barbara. Foreclosure sales and evictions have occurred, and are continuing to occur, that are clearly irregular and illegal. People are losing their homes without due process of law. On March 12th, Occupy Santa Barbara, along with Occupy groups from across California, simultaneously rallied at county recorder offices across the State to call attention to the massive and ongoing foreclosure fraud. This petition was presented to 3 County officials (the Recorder, DA, and Sherriff) on the 12th and will be presented to the Board of Supervisors on April 3rd. You can find more info about the event and the full text of the petition at http://occupysb.org/foreclosures/.

  • WALMART: Refuse to Carry Monsanto's GMO Sweet Corn
Monsanto has plans to sell its new genetically engineered sweet corn seed for planting this spring, and even though this new crop is intended for human consumption and will likely be sold fresh off the cob, it has never been tested for human food safety. We would like Walmart to commit by April 1, 2012 to not sell Monsanto’s genetically engineered sweet corn variety in their stores. Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, and General Mills say they won't handle it. Walmart has made a pledge of sustainability, which does not support carrying GMO corn. 90% of all Americans want GMO foods labeled, because they don't want to eat them. We deserve the right to know what we are eating. Even China and Russia label GMO foods. Please refuse Monsanto's untested, unlabeled, and potentially unsafe sweet corn!

  • The TRUTH About Gas Prices and WHO Controls IT ALL
To bring attention to the Anti-Excessive Speculation Act of 2011. A critical bill currently before Congress created by Sen Bill Nelson [FL] and Co-sponosored by Sen Blumenthal, Richard [CT],Sen Rockefeller, John D., IV [WV], Sen Sanders, Bernard [VT]. Bill is known as S.1598. Why do two or three men need to make billions of dollars on a future price that WE THE PEOPLE will pay for gas...because we let them? Enough is enough, Gas futures are a piracy of THE PEOPLE. It reminds me of Enron. Those guys were getting ready to start trading on the weather when it all unraveled. This is not any different in my opinion. Our "one" voice is LOUD! We can make them do the right thing for the people! Also to sign Sen Bill Nelson's petition copy and paste the link below: http://www.capitolenews.com/mailings/nelson/022412_gas_comment.html

  • "Stop Feeding Us Superbugs!"-14 year old needs your help.
More and more Amerikcans are dying because of infections caused by antibiotic resistance. 70-80% of all anibiotics made by drug companies are used in animal feed. This meat ends up on our plates.I want the factory farmers (meat industry)industry to stop routinely adding antibiotics to animal feed. Factory farmers don't need to do this. Europe doesn't routinely add antibiotics to animal fee. Our future health depends on it.
